I am a physician and scientist. I want a better world for myself, and my family; a future world that is truly civilized. By that I mean a world that is free of hate and violence, where you can leave your home unlocked and not fear for your possessions; and where you can allow your children to play with their friends anywhere in the community, and not fear for their safety.

I want a world without fear - a safe earth.

In 1972, I committed myself to finding the necessary knowledge to help change our world. By 1974, I was devoting nearly all of my free time searching for a better world. The more I searched the clearer it became that the positive future I desired would require that we humans give up violence. It would require that we eliminate our adversarial nature.

As I studied human behavior, I began to see violence as a disease that clearly caused as much pain and suffering as any other disease that has ever plagued humankind. As a physician and scientist, I knew that when you truly understand a phenomena you could learn to control it. The history of science and the story of human progress is one of understanding and control.

Over the past twenty-seven years, I have identified and studied that critical understanding, unifying and integrating it all into a single database. I am now in the process of making that database available to all humanity. It can be found online at The Time-binding Trust. In addition, I write for Future Positive, an internet newsletter focusing on positive events within our culture.

Catalysts For Change As Viewed By Timothy Wilken
I see four catalysts driving change:

1. Crisis:
   
   The Chinese word for crisis is formed by the joining of two ideograms, each representing a different concept. One ideogram stands for danger and the other, for opportunity. Together they form the word crisis.

   Crisis means that if we fail to understand and act in ignorance, we will face danger of injury and destruction. But it also means that if we understand and act in knowledge, we have the opportunity for growth and survival.

   If we examine our crisis in terms of life’s history, things will become more clear. Crisis is not unique to humankind. It is a driving force of evolution - risk and opportunity; survival of the fittest. The life form that survives and evolves is the one that can grasp the opportunity and avoid the risk. This is the very process of life. It is the engine of evolution. Today’s crisis is simply our turn. While we humans face great danger, we are offered the opportunity to transform ourselves.
   
   

2. Connection:
   The Internet is much more than a new way to shop and get information. It is a mechanism for connection. In 1984 the internet primarily connected government, universities, and military contractors. By 1994 there were approximately 2-3 million computers and 20-30 million people with Internet access. By early '98 57 million U.S. users and 320 million web pages were estimated to be on the net. The current growth rate is in excess of 10 percent per month.

   Examining human behavior on a planetary basis, humans are connecting and organizing themselves into evermore complex and interrelated systems. We have world travel, industrial, communication, and economic systems. Self-organization is the most common activity of all living systems. It always precedes an evolution into more complex life forms. Humankind appears to be on the same path that life itself has taken in the past. It is the same path that molecular life took in organizing into cellular life; then in forming multi-cellular tissue; again in forming organs and on to becoming complex organisms.

   Are individual humans of earth organizing into a single system? My body is a unified culture of 40,000,000,000,000 cells operating in harmony to produce the phenomena called me. Is it our turn to become cells in the body of a unified humanity? Are we ready to transform ourselves into the United Cultures of Earth?
   
   

3. Knowing
   The last systems completed within the development of an embryo are the nervous system and brain. Are we are now entering a final knowing evolution where the brain of the new culture will emerge? Recent scientific advances made in understanding how the human brain and mind works, hold many surprises. The biggest shocker is that decision making is not centrally controlled in the brain.

   The brain appears to act more as coordinating and consensus systems for all of the body's cells, tissues and organs. It is not the brain that decides to eat but the cells. The brain stores the information gathered from sensing its environment, presenting to the unified culture opportunities for reflective action in meeting the needs and goals of the 40,000,000,000 cells it serves.

   The brain is not the leader of the body but its follower, matching the body's needs with appropriate action. It is a government that truly serves its constituents of cells, tissues, and organs.

   I am really in effect, a we. We have mistaken self-organization for directed organization. As a biologist I can see that the new knowing evolution can furnish the basis for the creation of a brain to serve new unified species. As a physician, a scientist and a human, I wish to participate in this catalyst for change beginning to form our species' brain.
   
   

4. Synergy:
   Synergy is the discovery that we can be far more together than we can apart. This is a natural organization for a time-binding class of life. As we begin working together, we are less concerned about earning our living, or how we are going to get paid. Instead we want to live lives that mattered, so that our children and their children will remember us and celebrate our contributions to their world. We want to live our lives without fear in a world of friends that co-Act, co-Labor and co-Operate.

Questions: Submitted by Bernie Slepkov of DreamTEAMS International Who are the Champions for Change that have influenced you? Most of my champions have been scientists. If I were to mention just one, it would be Alfred Korzybski. He taught me that I am a Time-binder. The power of Time-binding is to observe, understand and remember change over time. Understanding comes from the awareness of time - an awareness that allows humans to experience time as sequential or linear. For example, tomorrow follows today as today followed yesterday. Time always moves from the past to the present, from the present to the future. Change is bound in time, and time-binders understand change in space because they are aware of time. Time-binding, a new way of analytical thinking, recognizes cause and effect. Time-binders are the masters of cause and effect. When humans understand this, they make scientific discovery, generating knowledge. When human make choices based on knowledge, they make inventions and technology, therefore new tools from which knowledge continuously grows without limit. As we incorporate our ever more powerful knowledge into tools, we produce ever more powerful tools. Time-binding is also that unique human ability to pass that 'knowing' from one generation to the next generation. We humans catalogue and store our various knowings in libraries, universities, colleges, data banks, and information services. We store our knowing in many formats - books, tapes, films, movies, newspapers, magazines, video, microfilm, photos, computer files, etc., etc., etc. Time-binding is the mechanism that allows the accumulated knowledge of all humans that have ever lived to pass to their posterity as a free gift. "What do you want readers to get from your interview?" I want readers to realize that they are Time-binders. That we humans are something very special. That we are here on Earth for a reason, and it is not just to earn our livings. While we share our bodies with the animals, we are not animals. We are something more. That knowledge brings with it great power and even greater responsibilities. continue

The power of Time-binding is a gift from the past. Our so called "human progress" is the result of our inheritance of all of the accumulated wisdom and knowledge of all those humans who lived and died before us. Whatever choices we humans make as individuals must be made with an awareness of that great gift and OUR responsibility to all future humanity yet unborn.   Why have you joined the C4C-Panel? The proper relationship for Time-binders is synergic. Synergy means working together. Operating together as in Co-Operation. Laboring together as in Co-Laboration. Acting together as in Co-Action. The goal of synergic union is to accomplish a larger or more difficult task than can be accomplished by individuals working separately. Synergic humans believe that you should, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." What is it that most of us want others to do unto us? Synergic scientists answer this question as follows: Help others as you would wish them to help you. There are no separate solutions for humanity. We must solve our problems together, or we will perish separately. I see joining the C4C-Panel as an opportunity to work together, helping others the way I would wish to be helped.
