It was rather odd, when I came to realize it. Part of us is aware of course, all the time. Apparently, I was walking around clueless.


I purchased online a Lapin cherry tree to put in the front yard. It sat for a bit, bare root in bag, then I wedged it in a shallow hole and covered the roots with dirt until the weather was sufficiently dry to plant.

It is there, spritely growing on the front lawn. It sat there for a bit and I felt it looked a bit lonely. I considered another tree for the front. The cherry is on semi dwarf rootstock, so I felt safe in getting another fruit tree that could be managed on the same plot of ground.

I was at a locally owned nursery with my son Andrew (recovering nicely from his illness) and considered the bare root fruit trees in the offing there. We perused them. Discussed the pros and cons of various trees. We thought of a nectarine, but I didn't want to have to dormant spray it in the middle of winter. (call me lazy lol)We also considered a peach.. nix on same reason. We saw plumcots, a possible, but wow...you should have seen the price!

We then saw the apricots. They had a variety that was tolerant of wet lawns, had a low chill requirement and did well in our valley. A lovely Blenheim apricot. On a side note, my ancestral home is Blenheim castle in England. We planted it in the right spot and we were very pleased.

It wasn't until I was admiring the two trees when I suddenly realized. I had planted a cherry and an apricot on my front lawn. Yes, the obvious. The point was, my mother had planted the same on the lawn of the house I grew up in.

Hmmm....and I didn't consciously do it.


Maybe there is a message in that.
