Debating Democrats quote of the year must be:

"There are more people who have seen UFO's than support Bush" !

The Line Up was there demonstrating an internal party robustness replete with charming regional twangs of intonation. Someone mentioned in addition to UFO the word Anglo Saxon too. The differential twangs rarely cross the Atlantic and so we miss out on the essential lyricism integral to the " 'States ". A longer airing of this banter would have been interesting and possibly enjoyable.

it's just a matter of figuring out the power share that will take place and who will be her vice. I'd say her hubby would be good for that job, knowing a bit about vice, as he does, but he's probably going for UN general secretary.

That should complete the BushClintonBushClinton dynasty/Empire.

Regional twangs are only interesting if you're a democrat. If you're a republican, your twang denotes an unhealthy attraction to the bible or, well, anything backward and insular.

Anyway, get on the Hillary bandwagon, before it's too late.
The smartest woman in the world, for President.
PS.
Watch Hillary's accent change , depending on the debate venue.

4 Nov 2007 @ 11:05 by jazzolog : "Plunk Your Magic..."
Saturday mornings, before TV, were for kids on the radio...and one of the most fun shows was Smilin' Ed and his gang. It was sponsored by Buster Brown shoes, whose commercial had a kid (suppposedly) saying "I'm Buster Brown, I live in a shoe; here's my dog Tige, look for him in there too!" During every show at some point, weird tricks would begin to happen to Smilin' Ed...and it was then we all knew the invisible Froggy The Gremlin had arrived. Froggy could talk, in a croaky voice, from his vanished state...but he also could oblige us all by actually appearing. This he would do when Smilin' Ed would chant the mysterious words: "Plunk your magic TWANGER, Froggy!" Then there'd be a boing-oing-oing sound---and Froggy would shout, "Hiya kids, hiya, hiya!" and the audience would go wild.

When TV came, attempts were made to move the show into that medium, but it was miserable. Froggy turned out to look like this

and as for the Magic Twanger, I prefer not even to discuss it.

I'm always amazed when I see with what facility British actors are able to master our twangs. In fact the Brits are doing us better than we do ourselves. Tom Wilkinson and Tilda Swinton, though they don't have to do twangs, are only the latest in the current Oscar buzz for Clooney's ferocious movie, Michael Clayton.

here is that the quite charming twangs in their differences might belie a difference of persuasion and this very aspect may actually inform or imbue the debate with greater variety of idea or insight, or apparently so. And this because we t'other side of the Pond would not have sufficient knowledge to know if this was the case or not. One of course hopes v much it is the case of a wider diversity of debate - certainly that is implicit in regionalism in England. And, as well it is a recognisable token of representation for those in the audience sharing the same twang. Could one say there is intrinsically more Heart in Twang? A Handy tool in politics, the twang, mustering alignment or at least sympathy for the recognised candidate. Anything attracting more people to a debate is good. To sum up , Twangs in politics are good.

At a guess I would venture that the Republican scale of twang was not within the same tonal quality of the Democrats, lacking in melody, probably harsh and just not the same orchestra.

The delight in sticking to this small point brings a suggestion of added meaning and enjoyment to American Politics not taken up greatly by the media. Unless made a topic in its own right the Medium of internet discussion would evade it by default.

So pleased to know of the substantial precedent in associated topic of kiddies twangers. Amazement is here too for those Yanks speaking with quite acceptable Englishness on the Silver Screen. Also WoW here for George Clooney in Clayton - a fantastic finale and feel good conclusion!

An impassioned heart must surely bring out the nascient twangs in a voice - the more one thinks on it, the more the Republicans have got something to worry about here, beginning to miss out on a number aspects in relation to a "Humanity". Hilary came out really well in the line up, trim, look you in the eye when answering unwaveringly, head high, ready for the high jump, v impressive.

Bush doesn't really twang at all. But it's not a drawl either. Edwards does a drawl. This topic may become too complicated.

Some say the ending of Michael Clayton is too neat. Certainly we may suspend critical judgment because we're feeling so good. I had thought initially he might just choose to disappear...a la Bourne, which this director also wrote (screenplays that is).

9 Nov 2007 @ 10:51 by nraye : Intriguing Mix lyricism and politics
was the main fascination here - being a new departure in the general discussion as a whole rather than any personal idiocincrity. A lyrical voice in the political amphitheatre must surely be one that has a certain message to impart, a pleading to the audience, and this would imply good and nice ideas of message. No one would implore for the ghastly, for fear of being mobbed, instantly.

So, in response to Young Jazzo above, this line of thought does have a way to go if required! For instance, for the natural lyricists, would their demeanour restrain them from formulating hard line defence statements of intent. Would their natural appeal be saved for those speeches in the Senate for say costly programs against social injustices? Items such as this, have been going through the mind since listening to at least a couple of speakers (men) on the Democratic Line Up last weekend (or thereabouts) for the precious few seconds broadcast on these shores, to show not any content, but simply the spectacle of occurance of a handful of candidates ostensibly backing the same agenda roughly speaking.

In a rare moment of cynicism, the one stark departure from lyricism was from surprisingly Obama. One scarey fellow here on the surface at least, one only wonders what tasks will be chosen for this adept.

Try Chelsea sometime...you know...down by Liverpool. Love your wit. Here's a bit I gave to jazzo a few moments ago but then saw your smiling face 'Hill Station Blues' reminding me of all things Afrika Corps and just had to stop by, thankyou, and say hello. It's a Royal misted kind of thing. Fortunately, for me, Me Mum was from North Enden so had a bit of an Mancunian aire about her tongue and cheek. Ah the majesty of Brittania. Seems to me there was a white pig by the name of Hen Wen in there somewhere and we all know why the Irish hate us so much. Branwen. ;) Good show sis...

Bush Signs Veterans Disarmament Act Then Flees to Israel

We are knee deep in tyranny. With all eyes on New Hampshire no one noticed the shit storm Bush was whipping up. On Tuesday Bush signed the Veterans Disarmament Act, (known in the main stream media as NICS Improvement Amendments Act of 2007).This bill was stalled in Senate for years, but a few months after the Virginia Tech shootings [link] the legislation came together with bipartisan support.

The typical lawmaking that has gone on since 9/11 has had the same formula, and this was no different, one person causes the trouble and we are all punished. The shooter at VA Tech, Seung-Hui Cho was seeing a psychiatrist and taking prescription drugs, so now we are all viewed as having questionable mental health. Our medical records may wind up with the FBI but the new law will not only block veterans who have been treated for PTSD from buying a gun, but it goes even further.

Anyone who has a restraining order filed against them, and anyone who was treated for ADHD as a child has no chance of ever owning a gun [link],0,3455274.story .

Potentially we all could be disarmed under the new law, and you will have a difficult time removing your name because that process has been blocked for a decade. [link]
This law is an attack on the Second Amendment and it was not even enough for them, upon the passing of this law, the lawmakers pledged to keep fighting us, next is the "gun show loophole." And as early as March the Supreme Court will be hearing a case on gun control in DC. They will not quit, and when you can look at this issue from all sides the motives are clear.

"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence ... From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to insure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable . . . The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that is good"

-George Washington

31 Jan 2008 @ 11:26 by nraye : My Friend
who has been a film director has told me that he is going into politics and is standing for election as a possible candidate for the Liberal Democrats. My reaction to this was quite unexpected - for I could quite literally see him being elevated in the mind's eye to the level of sainthood, knowing him as little as I do. His mum sang with my dad on stage to rapturous applause, and so the friendship here ahangs on this thin thread!!! I told him I cannot afford to make a large donation to assist him, for he is of good stature and speaks atrue. However, they may be other sorts of beans that can be put in his pot. He has to give up everything, like a saint, to pursue this endeavour.
