I am so glad that you are safe and were able to help others who were badly affected. How is it there now? 27 Jun 2010 @ 13:25 by scotty : getting better in a manner of speaking ... still hundreds of thousands of tons of household debris piled up on the roadsides .. can circulate 'almost' normally ... got drinkable water in the taps at last .. electricity is good almost most of the time .. shopping for food can be a wee bit complicated - most of the stores haven't opened and getting food supplies in to the district is kind of sporadic ... in the begining everyone was in a state of great shock - then very quickly they sort of got their shoulders together and the solidarity was incredible ... people are getting very tired now though and their nerves are begining to fragilise quite a bit ... reality is begining to hit in ... they know that things aren't ever going to be the same and it's going to take months 'n month before things get back to a semblance of 'normal' I can't tell you how much I admire their courage ! 27 Jun 2010 @ 13:34 by susannahbe : Getting better I think that is the way it is after a shock like that, at first people function almost automatically on adrenaline but as time wears on and that immediate buffer zone has gone, then reality kicks in and all the shock and feelings will come to the surface. As you say things are never going to be the same again and people have lost loved ones and their homes and possesions, they will need to grieve. I am glad that you have at last got drinkable water out of the taps and the electricity is good most of the time, it just go's to show how mankind is so reliant on these things being in place! I do hope the issue with food supplies is sorted soon. Did you manage to assess the damage to your cellar? I am thinking of you and all the people there. Love to you x 27 Jun 2010 @ 19:24 by niwalen : Wow! Seeing the images, wow! I´m glad you´re safe. Hugs, and best thoughts to you and Joelle. 28 Jun 2010 @ 09:04 by scotty : Susannah "it just go's to show how mankind is so reliant on these things being in place!" Absolutely !!!! If we're suddenly deprived of our mod-cons ( when post oil hits hard for example) most people wouldn't know how to feed themselves if it didn't come out of a box or a can !! We're so so so out of touch with nature - most of us depend completely on the 'establishment' ! :-( Don't think we'll be able to get our damage assessed for ages yet .. we're way down on the list of priorities .. as long as the whole cellar and terrace doesn't cruble completely then that's fine - just means that we can't eat out in the garden heheheh Thanks for your loving support m'dear xxx 28 Jun 2010 @ 09:07 by scotty : Niwalen the images only tell half the story - in some parts of the town it's like walking on the moon ! Thanks so much for the hugs and best thoughts .. they mean a lot! 29 Jun 2010 @ 16:33 by mortimer : Thats wild You must have a lot of rocks in France. I seen many floods before but never with so many rocks. Rocks don't float, whats up with that. When that hurricane hit us about 5 years ago we went without power for 3 weeks and it was great. The kids turned off the TV and went outside and played. The streets was full of kids. All the neighbors, we all emptied our freezers and threw the biggest backyard barbecue block party this city ever seen. Without electricity the food was going bad, might as well cook it. Good times! My only gripe was the few people who had noisy generators running all the time, that was extremely annoying. 29 Jun 2010 @ 17:04 by mortimer : . My condolences towards the unfortunate parties who lost love ones. 30 Jun 2010 @ 10:34 by scotty : Mortimer thanks for the condolences for those who are grieving . I know what you mean about being happy without electricity ... experienced that many times when I lived in the west indies .. yup played cards too !! re rocks ... the force of the water was so great that it just rolled the rocks along as if they were made of cardboard ... I even saw a tanker-lorry which had been carried off of the road and dumped in a field !! Be a while though before folks here will be ready to play again. Disasters like this really show how much we depend on our 'comforts' .. our grandparents would have coped quite differently methinks .. different mentality ! 30 Jun 2010 @ 16:53 by a-d : The days between Xmas and New Year 2003 Mt Baldy rained away! Our normally 8 to 12 feet year round creek roaring now as a 100 feet wide watery "freeway" moving boulders as big as WV "beetles!!....35-50 miles an hour speed rate!.... The road was cut in half and it took half a year of the Army Corp of Engineers to rebuild the road!... A strip of solid land more than a hundred feet wide was totally removed for appr eight miles for good!.... changing the Landscape of Mt Baldy DRASTICALLY for all eternity! Incredible...( and to be told, that this Event was just SMALL POTATOES to the two; of -69 and -79, when one part of the village was just swept away (14 Houses)) ! I wouldn't "believe"/comprehend the change that Event forced upon us all --had I not witnessed it all my self!... I'm sure it is "the same" for you about all that happened there...: One had to experience it oneself (in order) to truly UNDERSTAND the Power of Nature! The two Mt Baldy wild fires were of similar character!.... one had to see for oneself to ....etc...!
