My personal view is that what he will find in the end is a huge complex consisting of 23 citys underground. With exits/entrances on the surface that have carved monoliths of 4 religions guarding them. See the picture of one of the lost cities that I found 2 years ago at:

I also believe that this ancciant complex was built by the Lumarians, or just a group of people that decided that all religions have the same message, and maybe thought that the 4 that where the main religions back then where part of the one true god, the sun. Ask any native american in any tribe: Where is the land of the sun people, and they will tell you the grand canyon. :}
