Category: Information 8 comments 19 Jan 2003 @ 23:17 by strydg : that's a big if...controlling the meaning of words. that's like saying the surfer can control the wave. the words control us, including the artificer - that's the problem. the human mind may have relative control of the meaning of words between the covers of a book but ironically, these are not good books. they're boring and predictable - unless the reader wants to surrender to it. which is weird, but, then again, it's what we do. and i question the motive behind wanting to control the people (and minds) who use these words. this Philip K. Dick quote is provocative but meaningless unless you like to think it's fun to be controlled by invisible forces - "the devil made me do it". these are fascinations that keep the mind distracted. 20 Jan 2003 @ 07:45 by bushman : Cool, strydg But did you watch/read the story, that is just thier entry screen, did you close the popup window thinking it was an add? Since it seems you are basing your comment on the quote only and not the story, did you even enter the site I posted? And it was rainning so no gardening. The story of Noah's flood, is too much woo woo, too, but it's true. Ok, what you do is go to the site, then let the pop up load, then click on "skip intro" A new page will load in that pop up, once it's loaded click on story, then you can start at chapter 1. You can also see the trailer from the intro on this page, This story is done in 100% flash animation, seems they put out a chapter every 2 months, and they planed to take 2 years to do the whole 24 chapter story. Some chapters have acts as well, so far the total disk space of the first 21 chapters is about 120 mgs, and you can save them as winzip files. I put all the chapters on a cd so I don't have to wait between acts and chapters. It's nice though that collectors can own the whole thing on discs. There is now an abundance of reviews on the series. I like Zabel's take on it, {link:http://webcomicsreview.com/examiner/issue051212/historypart2b.html|here}, on The Webcomics Examiner. I like Philip K. Dick but my favorite quote from the series is the one by Khalil Gibran: "Seek not the depths of your knowledge with staff or sounding lines. For self is a sea boundless and measureless and the soul walks upon all path." "Sand and Foam" ({link:http://www.kahlil.org/sandpf|link}) contains a line that would have made a most fitting description of the series: "Half of what I say is meaningless, but I say it so that the other half may reach you".
