I think you´re making it too complicated.
The Newslog is a feature that is both an archive and an interface with readers.
To keep it alive, it must have a certain aspect which will appeal to readers.
Think of the cover of a book. Isn´t that what you would look at first, when you pick it up ? The cover actually sells the book.
On the other hand, don´t forget that it is possible to have the Room
a)closed to "outsiders" (to have a certain group intimacy, which in our Cauldron experience is inducive to relaxation, trust, and thus more spontaneity/that is : BB, Meeting, and Conversation only for Members)
but
b) the "showable/sharable" part (the actual writings) in a showcase (the Newslog) open to the Public and NCN members.
(What we want, I should think, is to SHARE these writings with a maximum of said NCN members, yes?)
The Newslog itself and its comments function is the most important feature of the workgroup, IF you want to communicate not only inside the workgroup itself, but with the larger community.
What I would do, is put the "art work" (the writings), with some atractive illustrations, in the Newslog, and only this. The category feature can be used to sort subjects out.
Maybe the Links section could be used to put references, not only URL bookmarks.
