The Problem

"WinMX was served a Cease and Desist Order on Sept 19,2005. On the Sept 20th around 16:00 GMT they pulled their peer caches (what you use to connect to the network) and WinMX became a lame duck, dead in the water..... or so our enemies thought. At this point, an effort by the users began to fight back. There is still a ways to go, but as of now Sept 24, 2005 people are now able to connect to the network as they were before the problem started."

Download the WinMX hosts file patch

Read more about the patch here.

I did the manual install by downloading the patch, a file named hosts, and dragging it into my folder c:windows/

Fairly simple.
And I see no alternative, as long as companies like Sony insist on packaging programs on their cds that infect your computer with all kinds of spyware and crap. Enjoy!

why does winmx keep telling me that there was an error and they closed it down and it says to report it to winmx and when i do it says winmx no longer has it.

This fix is way out of date and actually harms the winmx network by allowing fake file flooders to connect to the network.
A superior patch exists that will inteliigently filter out fake files and block the flooders , why waste your time using old tech ?

Can you please update all of your information and links to the much newer MXPie 3.5 patch? Your pointing to a patch that is now well over a year old.

I can not get winmx to work. I downloaded v3.53. I also downloaded mxpie 3.5 patch. I stll can not get it to connect. any suggestions??

Is there any way to get back onto winmx? Every time I try to download I get re-directed to other sites that I don't like.

I have stated this before but it seems to have fallen on deaf ears in some quarters, a host file patch as that provided by mxpie will not protect the network from fake files or other network attackers only one file currently does this and its avalable for http://patch.winmxconex.com/
This is the same patch as offered previously from winmxgroup and is the only one that will block fake files, do not be mislead into installing old tech solutions that hurt the network.
