A Quick Bird Report

I've been hearing a Yellow Shafted Flicker most mornings around 6 AM when I go outside for a smoke.

I've only sighted this bird twice before, once on the seacoast and once in the inner city when I lived by the railroad tracks, maybe ten years ago.

With the Yellow Shafted Flicker, I've always heard him first before I saw him. He has a very

distinctive voice.

I'd like to site this one, but I have a problem. Being totally deaf in one ear, it's hard to tell from what direction a sound is coming from. I'm also worried about what the neighbors would think of me wandering around a city neighborhood peering through binoculars in the wee morning hours. more >

computer navy.

The company is considering deploying the supercomputers necessary to operate its internet search engines
on barges anchored up to seven miles (11km) offshore.

The water-based data centres would use wave energy to power and cool their computers, reducing Googles costs.
Their offshore status would also mean the company would no longer have to pay property taxes on its data centres,

I can't really say that I am into the political issues like I used to be. I just can't get excited about them lately.

Partly because my bi-polar condition is successfully in remission, maybe, but also a feeling that the world will do just fine without me paying such close attention to it.

I'm not too thrilled with what is passing as a democratic republic these days either.

Animated Graffiti

City Life.

There's some good and some bad about it.

I like that everything is within walking distance, and there's more cultural activities than out in the sticks.
But then there is urban blight. And walking down an alley on a hot July day right after they've emptied the trash?

Nauseating.

And of course there is graffiti. Most of it is senseless and not very good. To me it's someone saying, "This neighborhood sucks, you suck, and I have no respect for you or your belongings.

Rarely, will I see some graffiti that has some artistic merit. I run into some of that sometimes.

But not often.
Surfing the net this morning though, I came across this little beauty.
Pretty cool eh?
