dearest vibrani, energy, kay, ming, bushman & all my other newciv friends (old & new):

@-->---------------
i am writing this because i hung out late last night in the welcome lounge & was actually there when in the wee hours it was renamed club lounge. there had been a horrendous fight earlier before i arrived. as the new name was being hung on the lounge, a few of us talked, sang, shared apple pie & tried to set the vibes back to welcome. today i see the same dialogs trying to flare up again in different ways, in different rooms & so i am writing this message so that i can have some peace with the way i feel about what's going on. there are three parts to this message: 1) the lyrics to imagine; 2) we've got baggage; and 3) what did i come here to new civilization network for?

i am writing this because i hung out late last night in the welcome lounge & was actually there when in the wee hours it was renamed club lounge. there had been a horrendous fight earlier before i arrived. as the new name was being hung on the lounge, a few of us talked, sang, shared apple pie & tried to set the vibes back to welcome. today i see the same dialogs trying to flare up again in different ways, in different rooms & so i am writing this message so that i can have some peace with the way i feel about what's going on. there are three parts to this message: 1) the lyrics to imagine; 2) we've got baggage; and 3) what did i come here to new civilization network for?

1. the lyrics to imagine.

imagine was john lennon's second major release apart from the beatles. it was released on Sept. 9, 1971 (US) and Oct. 8, 1971 (UK):

@--------------
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

2. we've got baggage.

we've all got baggage. john lennon had baggage. he kicked yoko ono down a flight of stairs once, it is said.

if we didn't have baggage, why the heck would we need a new civilization network? we'd be there already, wouldn't we, in that time & space, sharing our lives, our resources together in joy?

i am a human being in training. there is no roadmap for who i am becoming. mostly, i am making my new self from all the things i know i do not want to be.

as a poet, i fully support free speech. as an everyday person, i try to fully support communicating my freedoms as i interact for the purpose of making friends.

i try not to be afraid to look at my baggage, to decide what is weighing me down & to move on so as to travel lightly. it seems a lot of my baggage is excessive, hurtful, damaging. sometimes when i speak, i am repeating things my parents said that they learned from their grandparents who had to speak the ways they did, just to stay alive, to not be lynched, to not be split up once again from their loved ones. sometimes when i speak, i feel sad that these words ever had to be said in the first place; sad that there was not a broader help net; sadder that i still have the tendency to fear what they feared. while part of my job is to know these truths need to be spoken for the purpose of resolution, i am no longer willing to communicate these truths in ways that are hurtful & damaging. in that way, at least, i have lightened my baggage.

3) what did i come here to new civilization network for?

at some point in my life, i made a decision to recreate me, to give myself a chance, to be intelligent & sentient & to head out for a world that is humanely responsible & ecologically responsive. i made a checklist of those things i have packed which are absolutely necessary to my journey forward. you'd be surprised what i left behind.

i like the new civilization network. i check in here alot, use the spa, swim in the nearby ocean under the stars. it's a treat. i never know who's going to grace me with a great conversation, a hug, a surpise piece of pie. i hope we all keep talking here at the new civilization network. sometimes the truths we express may not be all that lovely but at least we can rely on each other in this community for honesty, tenderness, compassion, respect & human decency.

in words & deeds, PEACE
all ways always
