Avivi has now been joined by her mother, a black beauty who we call Ketsele (pronounced Keht-zel-leh), Yiddish for pussy cat. Our friend Maura let us try out Ketsele , to see how things would be with Avivi, for a couple of days while Maura was away. After a few days of warily circling around each other, with a fair amount of hissing on Avivi's part, they now seem like the best of buddies. Ketsele is home.
The two cats definitely have rapport with each other. We've seen Avivi jump up to where Ketsele sits, put her paws around Ketsele, and lick away. If that isn't a loving hug for mamaÑI don't know what is. Ketsele reciprocates
They also fight, the 'play' fighting of cats--natural hunters and stalkers. Vivi remains persistent and will come up to Ketsel, 'worry' her tail, until Kets moves or decides to bat her away. In which case, they may end up wrestling with Avivi usually ending up on her back, legs splayed out in surrender pose. Mama is still bigger and tougher.
It also looks like the two of them enjoy these battles. Neither seems to get hurt. They need to keep up their predatory skills after all.
So far, the amount of 'chaos' here seems manageable. Not too many overturned lamps, or unraveled rolls of toilet paper. The two cats have mostly a calming influence on each other and are a pleasure to watch together. My father says, after hearing about some of their exploits, "They're a pain in the ass."
He's right.
And we wouldn't want it any other way.
