Fundamentalist egalitarians tend to reflexively assume that differences in the socio-economic standing of individuals or groups must always be due to oppression of the 'have-nots' by the 'haves'.
They seem unwilling to recognize that the 'haves' may have what they have because of a culture of achievement. The 'have-nots' may not have because they indulge in a culture of poverty and resentment.
Those who seek to engineer the equality of results in the socio-economic field don't want to take this into account. Equal treatment under the law for all--yes, I'm for it. But in the free play of a market economy in a democratic society, inequality of results appears inevitable because no two people are exactly the same as to what they want, what they are willing to do, and what they in fact accomplish.
The drive to ensure equality of results thus will lead to a totalitarian mission to create a society with no socio-economic distinctions--which leads not to liberty and justice for all, but rather tyranny and poverty for just about everyone.
