Dare To Inquire: Goodism

There is a disease that has reached epidemic proportions worldwide. No-- I'm not talking about influenza or AIDS.

I'm talking about the political disease of Goodism.

Goodists, carriers and spreaders of this disease, like Yossi Beilin, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, The Editorial Writers for the New York Times, etc., think, for example, that lack of peace in the Middle East comes from the Israeli side not being nice enough.

Oy Vey.

As Bret Stephens writes in his Jerusalem Post article The Goodists:

"Goodists fail properly to appreciate the relevance of evil. Why can't Israelis resolve their differences with the Palestinians? Goodists will say it's about competition for scarce resources, such as land and water, or mutually exclusive religious claims and cultural narratives - explanations that allow them to avoid taking any side but their own.

And yet the problem is simple to the point of being simplistic (to use a term the Goodists scorn). The problem is this: One man set himself the demonic, lifelong task of seizing full control of his people so they might participate in his project of destroying the State of Israel. That is the problem. That is it. So long as that man is in place, there can be no solution to the conflict, only capitulation. With that man gone, much is possible....

...."The goal of responsible global statesmanship is to work toward a world in which men and women of good will are in charge. The difference between Goodists and the rest of us is that Goodists believe this can be advanced through high-profile demonstrations of niceness. Sorry to be rude, but that's bullshit."

Calling Mollison a racist seems a bit off the mark to me. He has thagut Permaculture on every continent, using local materials, and incorporating local techniques. He does not come in as "the great white saviour" preaching only one way of doing stuff. Many of the techniques used in Permaculture are informed by cultures from all around the world. As for seeing world wide food production as better security than "kitchen window" food production, if there is an industrial dispute on the docks, holding up imports, if there is a major shortage of fuel, if there is a war.... so many things CAN interupt "international" and even interstate food. We are lucky to have these things, but we should not kid ourselves that they are secure.
