Dare To Inquire: Explanation for My Silence

Wednesday, Feb. 18, I called my 93 year old father, Mashe Kodish, as I normally do every other day. Dad lives by himself in Pittsburgh, across the continent from my home in California. Dad sounded terrible and had a severe pain on his left side. I called a neighbor who rushed over to his apartment and got him to a nearby hospital. The next day I arrived in Pittsburgh and have been here since along with my sister who came in from her home in Dallas

Dad had an aneurysm (a weak section) in his thoracic aorta, the main pipe carrying blood from the heart to the rest of the body. The aneurysm had expanded and broken and was leaking blood. After a few perilous days the leak sealed. Dad was in the hospital for a week and then came home. He is expected to survive (he doesn't want the perilous surgery) and get stronger. However, the aneurysm has the possibility of bursting at some later time. Nonetheless he could live another few years at least.

Now he's feeling weak. I could be here for another few months. Hopefully Dad can get back to his normal independent life, which includes driving his car and playing golf in the summer.

In the meantime I'll be in Pittsburgh, except for occasional brief spells back in California during which time my sister will come to stay with Dad. Postings to this blog will be less frequent. But stay posted as I will occasionally "mouth off" with something that is nigh sure to annoy somebody.

where you've been and what's been going on. I'm very sorry to hear about your dad and wish him as complete a recovery as he can have. Best regards to you and your family, Bruce.

It's tough when our parents get old. I had to stay with my mom for a month when she recovered from gall badder surgery a few years ago. At 82 she didn't heal as quickly and was quite sick. On the other hand I enjoyed taking care of her. Hope your dad improves quickly.

My sister and I are supported by our families as we support my father.

He does have a chance of recovering from the recent trauma of this broken aneurysm and getting some quality of life back. Perhaps he may be able to drive and function independently as he was doing just a few weeks ago. Nonetheless, the long term prognosis is not good--1 or 2 years with a big chance that the aneurysm can burst again. The treatment will be aggressive control of blood pressure--getting it to around 100/60 if possible--or less.

My father has lived a very long, healthy life. I suspect that his heartiness may consist of a greater ability to put up with the pain and stress of life. Still his surviving this so far seems like a gift to us and I'm happy to help.

We appreciate your kind words.

On peut définir le jeu comme une activité de loisirs d'ordre physique ou bien psychique, soumise à des règles conventionnelles, à laquelle on s'adonne pour se divertir, tirer du plaisir et de l'amusement.

I have been browsing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be a lot more useful than ever before.
