Rubin writes: "Today, everyone's talking about how wonderful you are.

Right now you don't understand why Bill Clinton and George Bush couldn't solve a little thing like the Arab-Israeli conflict, defuse the massive hatred of America in the Middle East, end terrorism or turn radical Islamism into an ideology of peace."

Don't worry. You will."

[I hope Obama reads this. I'd like him to succeed. BIK]

"Right now you don't understand why Bill Clinton and George Bush couldn't solve a little thing like the Arab-Israeli conflict,"

It is not up to any American to solve the Israelie-Arab conflict. It is up to the Arab nations and israel to solve their problems. Quit asking America to solve the mid-east problems.

I don't know if you read the entire article, but it is a sacrastic comment on the peace process and peace that is never accomplished by a US president. It's like good luck, it ain't gonna happen and you'll know what it's like not to succeed. It is not demanding the US solve the problem, but IF Obama is going to talk with so and so, how about saying this or that? Lastly, it is in America's interest to be friends with Israel, and Saudi Arabia, that's why there is a relationship.

10 Nov 2008 @ 23:57 by martha : sour grapes
It's called sour grapes rusyn. Bruce is dsappointed that McCain didn't win so sarcasm is his approach. To bad...hahaha
Peace in the mid east can only occur with Israelies and Arabs agreeing. The president of the United States has NOTHING to do with it. I hope Obama makes no attempt to try and make peace in the mid east.

If the US would concentrate on the energy problem in the US and solve it, the arabs would lose their power. Now that is POWER.

You must know that oil is only one of the problems, right, like Al Qaeda and Hamas are other concerns? I don't think there's a person in America who wouldn't want to lessen OPEC oil dependency. Israel and the Arabs do need to work it out (the land issue) amongst themselves.

11 Nov 2008 @ 04:16 by frank4zen : so what
Not everyone thinks the same way. When you talk of "empathy," America's enemies hear the word "fear." When you speak of change, they, too, want change. Unfortunately the change they want means wiping other states off the map, creating radical Islamist dictatorships and kicking the United States out of the region.

This is no misunderstanding: it's a conflict.

what wrong with that?

11 Nov 2008 @ 04:35 by ursula : The biggest change would be
changing the PLO Charter that calls for the destruction of Israel to acceptance that Israel exists and both sides can live without fear of attack. Only then can Israel take talks seriously. Each time there were peace talks, the PLO attacked Israel even more. Why should Israel make any peace agreement when the Arabs won't keep the peace?

13 Nov 2008 @ 02:36 by bkodish : Regarding Sour Grapes
I don't have 'sour grapes' because my candidate didn't win and didn't post this article link in sarcasm.

Rubin did not write it in sarcasm either as far as I can tell.

I wouldn't say that the President has nothing to do with it but would certainly agree that most of the interventions of the last several decades by Dem and Rep administrations haven't worked too well and President-Elect Obama would do better for himself and all concerned in my opinion if he tried to do as little as possible to push for 'peace'. Instead he apparently has sent Malley already to probe the Syrians. Not a good omen.

Rubin, an expert on Syria, is giving him helpful advice. But things seem too early to tell. President-Elect Obama is an enigma to many people including me and we'll have to wait and see what he does with his opportunity. I genuinely wish him well.

13 Nov 2008 @ 05:56 by ursula : Cynical
might have been a more accurate description of the article. It is too early to tell what Obama plans to do, and if he even knows what this is all about.
