Novalis Corporation
Limache Project General Presentation
San Francisco de Limache - Chile

The creation of the Novalis Corporation seeks to provide a space for human initiatives in the fields of: art, agriculture, medicine, education, architecture and overall to stimulate social, cultural and scientific awareness. All of this in the light of the teachings of Rudolf Steiner, Austrian Philosopher (1861-1925).

The project presented here for consideration includes the following:
-School
-Health Center
-Art Center

To better manage the development of these areas of the project, each has been studied separately in terms of the budget and timeline for achievement of goals.

This project has at its disposition a property of 60,000m2 located in the city of Limache. Limache is located in the V Region of Chile and has a population of 50,000. Surrounding Limache are a series of small towns such as Quillota, Villa Alemana and Olmué. Other more important cities located 30 minutes away by car are Valparaiso and Viña del Mar. The property has easy access being in the heart of the city of Limache. Santiago, the capital of Chile, is only 150 kilometers away. The entire population of the V Region of Chile is approximately 1,500,000.

Section Two:

Novalis School

The objective of the Novalis School is to create an educational facility to function as an integrated education based on Rudolf Steiner´s philosophy of Waldorf education. It is also important to create and support activities that will help the faculty of the school in its development of educators.

The school is already working, opening its doors in 1998 with only 3 students in kindergarten. Today, in 2001, the school has grown to 60 students, 30 in kindergarten. The other 30 are in first, third or sixth grades. The demand has come from the parents to seek a more wholesome education for their children. This school is the only one of its kind in the V Region. In order to target this high demand, since 1999 a group of people have been meeting each week (from Limache and surrounding towns) to study the foundations of a Waldorf schooling system.

The 60 children attending school today use a wing of one of the existing buildings on the site that has been remodeled. The intention is to grow and to accommodate for this increase, the reconstruction and remodeling of existing structures and the building of new ones is needed. There are several existing structures on the site that need to be repaired and remodeled to provide space for classrooms up to the 8th grade, with office space, administration, an auditorium and workshop areas.

Section Three:

Clinic and Health Center

The purpose of this Center is to give medical attention on an antroposophic style of delivery for the local community and any person in need. The objective of the Health Center is to provide care for convalescence, recovery from injury or caretaking of people in general. A first aid clinic has been established within the existing school site, with Dr. Liliana Vallespir Machado as physician. Dr. Machado functions as the director of the center.

The Health Center is located on the upper portion of the site, on a hill, surrounded by trees that are incorporated into the design of the structure in order to maximize the natural surroundings. The building consists of three floors. The first houses administration, therapy rooms and examination rooms, the second is open for activity and walking space and the third contains the client/patient rooms, totally approximately 1570 m2.

Art Center

The purpose of this area is to create a space for the exploration of the arts through concentrated accelerated classes. The building structure for this area is positioned for optimum use of the site, against the outer wall and approximately centered between the school buildings and the beginning of the grade at the bottom of the hill.

The program features workshops concentrating on:

· Architecture
· Painting
· Sculpture
· Music

This includes living quarters for 20 students adjacent to the workshop building in a 240 m2 (restrooms included) structure. An area of 5,000 m2 is planned to be used for organic farming and is located between the workshops and the living space.
