She is "unknown", "alone", and "growing old"... hence this gives a poignant example perhaps of the current civilization loss of value of these most important needs. The need for belonging, companionship and respect. So in the current vein of life it is revalent once again but now the white bird may be symbolic of the current materialism of society. The commodization and marketing of everything and the loss of the "soul" of the thing or in Pursigs anaylsis.... the loss of "dynamic quality".
