White Bird
By It's A Beautiful Day
1970s

White Bird
In a golden cage
On a winter's day
In the rain
White bird
In a golden cage
Alone

The leaves blow
Cross the long black road
To the darkened skies
In its rage
But the white bird
Just sits in her cage
Unknown.

White bird must fly
Or she will die

White bird
Dreams of the aspen tree
With their dying leaves
Turning gold
But the white bird
Just sits in her cage
Growing old.

White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird must fly
Or she will die

The sunsets come
The sunsets go
The clouds Float by
And The Earth Turns slow
And the Young Birds Eyes
Do always Glow
And She must fly
She must fly
She must fly

White bird
In a golden cage
On a winter's day
In the rain
White bird
In a golden cage
Alone

White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird must fly
Or she will die
White bird must fly

Well it may be worth it
Its a good un

Yes the violin is the exotic as I recall
jazz? yes I guess it would be....

It is interesting to note the white birds plight
while she has all the earthly commodities
and material goods, the golden cage....

She is "unknown", "alone", and "growing old"...
hence this gives a poignant example perhaps of the
current civilization loss of value of these
most important needs. The need for belonging, companionship
and respect. So in the current vein of life
it is revalent once again but now the white bird
may be symbolic of the current materialism of society.
The commodization and marketing of everything and
the loss of the "soul" of the thing or in Pursigs
anaylsis.... the loss of "dynamic quality".

Sorry to anaylis some times its good just to
silently know perhaps

25 Jun 2006 @ 15:17 by swanny : The Beatles Take
She's Leaving Home
(John Lennon, Paul McCartney)
Lead Vocal: Paul McCartney

Wednesday morning at five o'clock as the day begins
Silently closing her bedroom door
Leaving the note that she hoped would say more
She goes downstairs to the kitchen clutching her hankerchief
Quietly turning the backdoor key
Stepping outside she is free

She (We gave her most of our lives)
Is leaving (Sacrificed most of our lives)
Home (We gave her everything money could buy)
She's leaving home after living alone
For so many years
Bye bye

Father snores as his wife gets into her dressing gown
Picks up the letter that's lying there
Standing alone at the top of the stairs
She breaks down and cries to her husband
Daddy our baby's gone
Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly?
How could she do this to me?

She (We never though of ourselves)
Is leaving (Never a thought for ourselves)
Home (We struggled hard all our lives to get by)
She's leaving home after living alone
For so many years
Bye bye

Friday morning at nine o'clock she is far away
Waiting to keep the appointment she made
Meeting a man from the motor trade

She (What did we do that was wrong)
Is having (We didn't know it was wrong)
Fun (Fun is the one thing that money can't buy)
Something inside that was always denied
For so many years
Bye bye

She's leaving home
Bye bye

25 Jun 2006 @ 15:33 by swanny : Balance
I guess the thing to realize is that
well for me total certainty or control is not
desireable because if the out come is known
then where is the joy and yet one does
not want total uncertainty chaos or confusion
either cause it is most distressing so it
is a balance kind of like not controlled folly
perhaps but a balance or blend of folly and control.
