Learning from the internet can easily transfers technology, but not the know-how." sunny kalara This is a highly significant insight and observation so thankyou very much sunny but one that brings in to question the very process we are undertaking. For instance why are we trying to recreate the internet when it does not convey very well practical and hands on knowledge and know how. Are we not thus setting civilization up for failure. We thus should realize we have missed something in our equation. The hands on practicum and not simply the digital keyboard exercise. True the internet is a tool of some merit and value but without practical knowhow and understanding of its makeup and the makeup of other things in civilization it is simply a better mouse trap. It ties into something I read in regards to home schooling. The average home has not the resources to purchase the actual materials necessary for more advanced learning and not merely computers etc. things like hammers and test tubes and microscopes so bingo we see a gap in the immaculate telegraph that this very exercise attempts to fill. Everything afterall can not be reduced to a digital format or can it, there is the hammer afterall and then there is the "HAMMER". It is pretty hard to drive a nail or plant a seed with a keyboard think you not? 26 Jun 2009 @ 19:33 by swanny @70.65.104.43 : The Horizon Thus while it is a good exercise to build the internet the internet does not civilization build it would seem. At some point one has to take their eyes off the computer screen and look at the horizon. 26 Jun 2009 @ 19:51 by swanny @70.65.104.43 : Honing the Process So this changes our hypothesis as the internet did not build civilization but and its an important but but can the internet somehow help to build a better civilization and if so how. Well our or this or Mr Osheas very exercise is a concrete example but example of what perhaps. Well of taking the hypothetical and making it practical or attempting to make it practical. As this first attempt failed but we together are honing the process I suspect. 26 Jun 2009 @ 22:30 by swanny @70.65.104.43 : Hope Floats A Crisis is a terrible thing to waste link = [link] 26 Jun 2009 @ 22:39 by swanny @70.65.104.43 : Ecovillage Radio Ecovillage Radio link = [link] 27 Jun 2009 @ 12:12 by swanny @70.65.104.43 : Paradox of Free Speech THE PARADOX OF FREE SPEECH Can the cycle of ignorance and violence that rears it ugly being every few decades or centuries ever be broken or transcended or is it likely an unfortuneate reality, condition or choice that is hard wired into the human genome, that we must simply and evetually learn to accept somehow. Yet to accept it seems is to assure our own destruction and to ignore or deny or fight it is a kind of complicy, so we are left with its agonizing dilemma and aguish and thus succumb to the circumstance and fate of its having us choosing between lesser and greater evils. Yet here too then many and others of us stand back in our safehouse and refuges of democracy, opinion, free speech and pen and condem and weild our insults at those in power and position not realizing the heavy burden and blade that is oft upon their heads and shoulders, when instead our support, and encouragement and love instead would warrant oft better. Their jobs and choices are not simple fellow citizens and then for us to burden them with our petty ignorance, naive, retoric and drivel only makes these tough jobs harder and tougher, in addition to shooting them in the feet when and while they have been chosen by us to act and do generally act on our best behalf, welfare and interests. All of which thus and then brings to mind the old adage of if you have nothing good to say then say nothing less your confusion, hatred, ignorance and malice show and be known. What am I saying then and thus is that they are only human as are we, and are oft being asked and oft doing more than is humanly possible yet that is the true nature and reality of power, public office and position for those that might decide to make it their calling and cause and it is just that thus is not so easy as many seem to or might assume. So thus to reiterate perhaps if we have nothing good or clear to say, even though we have the right of free speech, the whole would probably be better served most oft if we simply said nothing. 1 Jul 2009 @ 08:54 by swanny @70.65.104.43 : Global Harmony The first thing....to do to get six billion people to agree? hmmmm whoa no pressure aye Well Someone suggested once an attitude of gratitude. I think perhaps thus the first we have to do is be thankful. Be thankful to be alive and breathing in this unfathonable Universe. It would be thus from such we could perhaps clear our heads and hearts and see where we all are at and what needs to be done and then do it and be examples for one and other. Not just talk all the time but actually follow thru with little things that need doing. and yes then be considerate and respectful and have mutual regard for others not just people the whole of life. Its not really that simple I suppose, we strayed pretty far from the basics. Like the ten commandments. We tryed to improve on them and we have made some headway but then we sort lost their intent which I suspect was to teach us to live with not necessarily laws persae but with values. So we have to think about that and our values in general. Maybe instead of calling them the ten commandments of God call them the ten Basic Values of Humanity. But I suppose we would have to vote on it for it to be valid and democratic, so rather than say thats what should be done, I put it for on the table as a motion, and ask for deliberation and discussion on it and then as that we submit the deliberated version for second reading. Upon further reflection I don't suspect that there is one right way or one right set of rules we could all ever agree on. Now this may be saddening for us to accept perhaps but therein lies a kind of diversity and beauty and confusion I suppose that makes us stronger,, each one is essentially unique?. All be it I suspect too though if we got back to common sense we all six billion would be at times further ahead. Ha ha ha so if we could all agree perhaps that there will be disagreements from time to time and accept the freedom that they afford and allow us then some kind of harmony might prevail. Actually the fact that we've reached six billion sort bodes well in our favor and suggests we must be doing something right but then to it suggests too we are not necessarily "global cognizant" of our existence because reaching 6 billion we have exceeded our share of the planets biocapacity and thus it is a kind of oversuccess. As well the idea of our democracy while somewhat imperfect was a compromise to the fact that we all would never agree but the we would take turns of "majority rule." This worked for a time until we realized that the minority needed input too so we developed the concept of "minority rights". So while perfection thus persae is perhaps unattainable harmony is not. 1 Jul 2009 @ 09:11 by swanny @70.65.104.43 : Common Challenge 6 billion humans on a planet this size would thus seem to be an unstainable amount of people for our planet to provide especially at the current lifestyles, quality of life and standard of living, so do we have a problem yes it would seem so. There are just to many of us for the size of the planet we inhabit. Is it a theologial problem ? Yes. Is it an atheists problem Yes. So thus we have a common problem or challenge to deal with. 1 Jul 2009 @ 09:29 by swanny @70.65.104.43 : Replenish the Earth RESPONSIBLE EVOLUTION The GOD of old thought to bid us to Replenish (fill) the earth and be good stewards and keepers of the Lands, Oceans, Skies, Plants, Birds and Animals. Genesis 1:22 "And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth." Genesis 1:28 “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” Genesis 9:1 “And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.” Ref: Holy Bible Some Time Before 2000 BC Thus as stated in these old records, we had and still have a duty and a need to show this foresight and wisdom as exampled by the God of old, and to exercise it now, to and for ourselves, if it is not to late, to multiply yes but to multiply and evolve responsibility and in keeping and with consideration to the health, well being and biocapacity of our Earth and its global environment and ecozones. Yet though it seems we have failed in this somewhat and have not really or always, over the course of human history (175,000 years ) evolved and progressed responsibly and with the consideration and foresight to and for the now and the future, and thus for this lack, oversight, lust or just plain ignorance, we humans and the planet as a whole, stand to suffer and die back now somewhat perhaps. We multiplied true but we did so with little consideration, it seems, to the consequences of it and in addition we did not and do not always replenish and steward the Earth, Oceans, Skies and Lands to an ecologically sustainable, healthy and harmonious state, so as for them to remain sustainable and regenerative for us and the future and the other creatures of the planet as a whole. We thus did not obey or realize our beginnings nor did we nor our Governments it seems, learn this on our own or learn it to a great enough degree perhaps, to realize the need to be wise, insightful and diligent in this regard. And so alas and thus as is oft said, "those who will not heed or learn , the lessons and wisdoms of the past are doomed to repeat them."
