I mean if we were a truly enlightened species we would see and know that it is necessary to sacrifice some of our self for the good of the whole but that is a laughable Hollywood notion of a nobility honor and romance perhaps that has perhaps never truly been realized by humanity and the stuff of fiction and fancy and legend. I suppose though there is the possible compromise position of holding the line of our population at 8 billion humans. Not as glamorous and script and award worthy but I doubt if we are even capable of that. Oh well. At least our plastic bags will show that something odd once was here. 15 Jul 2010 @ 23:29 by swanny @70.65.31.24 : money Well if some want to reduce their carbon footprint and save money at the same time you could reduce your carbon footprint significantly by going on a carbon strike and not driving your car. I did that for five years taking the bus, walking, biking and car pooling, riding with friends, considering the average person spends about $5000 to $8000 a year on their car all toll I figured I saved about $30000 for the five year strike. Mind you there is the inconvenience and logistics aspects but not driving or driving more green is a way to reduce footprint and or save money and considering that a lot of young people have energy to burn it would probably be healthier for their bodies as well. They say as the well the average citizen can have the most green bang for their buck if they consider wisely the green aspects of their major purchases like car stocks bonds and homes and appliances and that does not simply mean buying the sales persons pitch either but researching and finding verified, certified and credible green products and services as it is stated that as high as 85% of products and services claiming to be green are not much different than the norm. 15 Jul 2010 @ 23:48 by swanny @70.65.31.24 : Exxon July 15 2010 Thursday Canada Well I heard an interview today with a lawyer involved in the Exxon Valdez review and he said the lessons learned from that were never followed up on and that were still systematically ignored and that one of the big players on the review of the Exxon Valdez was actually BP in disguise and that if the recommendations set out by this review panel including a 3 tier planning process with input from ordinary citizens and employers had been followed the Gulf oil well would never have been approved or drilled. He blamed the failure and Exxon Valdez accident not on a drunken captain but on the fact that the company had cut almost all of its safety aspects and processes and the captain was actually up late doing the books because they had let go the financial manager and the crew was loading oil when they should have been asleep cause they had cut back on the proper loading crew. It was an interview on CTV news this morning. They said the whole failure was the result of a catastrophically flawed "mega system" with no checks and balances and hands in pockets every where and he said that such still continues today. ed jonas 16 Jul 2010 @ 01:58 by swanny @70.65.31.24 : preparedness Re: Capping of BP Gulf Ocean Oil well well though its perhaps a little to soon to tell, I suppose pronto then another 10 to 100 of this emergency caps should immediately be build and put on standby and a protocol procedural best practices emergency blowout document immediately drawn up as a contingency measure to the 1000 or so or more other offshore wells out there and there emergency plans immediately updated in leau and in light of the current learning and situations and outcome, in case of and for the eventual next ocean oil well blow out and this should be implemented and passed and federal and international legislation. And lets have some industry cooperation and follow through on this. And a moratorium placed on Arctic offshore development and ocean drilling as that would be a totally different ball of wax. get er done BP and oil industry.
