The hard way forward to another drug policy2 comments
picture14 May 2004 @ 15:35
The following is a summary of the experiences of a representative of the European NGO Council on Drug Policy while attending the conference called "The Way Forward", on a new European Union strategy on illicit drugs, which was held in the Hotel Conrad, Dublin, Ireland, on 10 and 11 May, 2004.

My presence at the Conference followed an invitation of the organisers (Irish government, current EU-presidency together with the Dutch government, the next EU -presidency) to inform about the position of European NGO's working on drugs issues. The result was that some governments re-acted on this presence as if I had come to open the box of Pandora…

The audience consisted of about 200 people: mostly civil servants from all the 25 EU Member States, some from candidate countries Rumania, Bulgaria and Turkey, some representatives of European Institutions (European Commission, Europol, European Monitoring Centre on Drugs and Drug Addiction EMCDDA, Council of Europe), some observers from third governments (Norway, United States) and two NGO representatives (TNI and ENCOD).  More >

ASHCROFT AND D.E.A. SUED TO PREVENT RELIGIOUS AND THERAPEUTIC CANNABIS ARRESTS

A Complaint for injunctive relief was filed today in the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii against U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft, D.E.A. Administrator Karen Tandy, and local U.S. District Attorney Ed Kubo by religious and medicinal consumers of cannabis.

The suit seeks to enjoin the Federal government from arresting and prosecuting those residents of Hawaii whose religions and religious beliefs require the consumption of cannabis (the herb governments derogatorily label as “marijuana”).

The lawsuit also seeks protection from federal prosecution for those citizens of Hawaii who cultivate, consume and/or distribute cannabis legally pursuant to legislatively enacted Department of Public Safety Narcotics Enforcement Division guidelines and valid patient/caregiver registration certificates.

The suit was sparked by the recent arrest of a local Hilo THC Ministry Reverend, and the ensuing prosecution for cannabis cultivation by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Marijuana and My Fear of Death2 comments

The author is a second-year graduate student in 20th century U.S. history.

I am a male graduate student, twenty-four years old, at a major public university in the Pacific Northwest. I am an alumnus of a small, highly regarded, academically demanding liberal arts college. I initially tried marijuana when I was a junior in high school, although, as is common, I didn't experience much of an effect the first several times I smoked it. I did not begin smoking it regularly, and did not eat it at all, until after I began college, when I was seventeen. That same year, I was lucky enough to be able to join a group of people in a beautiful natural setting, where older, experienced folk gave us a supportive introduction to LSD. This essay has mostly to do with marijuana, but I will have occasion to mention the other psychedelic drugs again later.  More >

Can Hemp be used as food?7 comments
picture16 Feb 2004 @ 14:13
Hemp seed is a highly nutritious source of protein and essential fatty oils. Many populations have grown hemp for its seed -- most of them eat it as `gruel' which is a lot like oatmeal. The leaves can be used as roughage, but not without slight psycho-active side-effects. Hemp seeds do not contain any marijuana and they do not get you `high.'  More >

The avarage marijuana users are no trouble makers, not violent, healthy hard working people.....the ideal slaves, as the US government has found out.  More >

Need for a peacefull candidate in the US2 comments
picture14 Feb 2004 @ 20:40
Lately the American government has seen it's popularity drop in most parts of the world. Reason for this could be the invasion of Iraq and the motives to start this war. Questions also appear when it comes to things like the 'Patriot act', taking away most of the American people's constitutional rights.  More >
