Sweetheart’s Song

The heart in counting silence
Rests with the gentle hands of hope
Will it lay in silence and waning light?
Let it lay with you, my strong one

Wrap your love like a forest night
Around my fragile, brittle-shelled heart
If it cracks beneath your gentle hands
I know it will be held sacredly

For we in our flights of thought
Have oft in times joined in spirit
Did we leave our hearts behind?
My love, you know better than that.

So what of this secret lover’s realm
Shall we travel its crystal lanes?
Will those alabaster pathways,
Lead past the rivers of sorrow?

I remember the sparkling cliffs
The rising brilliance of a golden sun
Illumination’s blinding transformation
We shall all ascend in love’s victory

The silence will be a sweetheart’s song
The rapture of old will be a shadow
For in the new dawn of ecstasy and joy
We shall be like a single flame
