The Elusive Star

The winter evening sky grew all misty-dark
As the moon hid behind the clouds,
Only peeking now and then.
Shadows would travel in their blueness,
then disappear as another wave of gray
hid that smiling orb.

And I…I seeking that elusive star
did hope to see its gentle glow.
Harbinger of peace and eternity,
I knew it dwelled forever suspended,
a timeless reminder of our potential;
of our capacity to love, to heal, to care.

It matters not what land casts its eye
and gazes into the eternal yesterday, today and tomorrow.
We need not be lost in the transient shadows
that darken our footsteps everyday.
What matters is that we keep looking up,
That we know that star shines for us.
