THE FOREST GREEN: SUMMER

Summer

Summer's hot gestures beckon me to cool resting waters
Brings my searing brow yearning for splashes
And giggles and sand in my shoes
For leapings and laughings
Rope swings and squealing twirls
Sunburnt boys and freckled girls
Frogs beware or they will soon ensnare
Your slimy wet greeness.
Oops!
Splash!
There he goes.

Gesundheit. And if you manage to evolve to look like that butterfly perched on a kind of little sunflower, just blooming everywhere right now in Southern Ohio, you may find yourself named a Great Spangled Fritillary. I'd settle for that.

Nice poem skookum, and nice picture.
Richard, I think I have found a way for people to fly like "Icarus" did.
I'll be writing a short log about it soon.

from your poem and thats great! Childhood memories of jumping through mud puddles as butterflies zoom off. Where did all the butterflies go, I miss them.

20 Jul 2004 @ 09:51 by skookum : I think
pesticides got them.. I too miss those butterflies.. though recently I have seen more Tiger Swallowtails...

20 Jul 2004 @ 10:37 by spiritseek : I saw
one monarch this year, last year I saw one and it hit my grill on my car. I was upset about it because their rare now, at least here in Michigan.

20 Jul 2004 @ 11:01 by skookum : I think too
that all that Roundup killing weeds.. is making an impact. A lot of butterflies like what we consider weeds.. and wildflowers.
