it is better to know who you are than where you are going.

any suggestions lol

I guess in these last ten years I have been trying to find out where I should be going instead of trying to figure out who I am. I suppose it is a long road to recover from being a Mormon. I can at least be glad that my children are free from its tenacious grip and are learning to be free thinkers.

I had a lot invested and so my recovery has been slower. So now starts my journey to find out who I am. Gawd I sound like a hippie ahahhahaha.

Part of who we are is how we're doing...and part of that is where we're headed. Going with the flow is cool...unless it's off a cliff---but then you might like waterfalls or bungie jumping, so who's to say? Buddha likes to avoid dualisms, so probably what's best is an ongoing dialogue. When not meditating, that is.

right to help your children to be free from external controls. I have been re-reading "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind" by Suzuki and found this book very helpful with such questions. As Jazzo suggested, there is much to say about dualism and to transcend such dichotomies as good-bad, right-wrong, believing-doubting, and patterns of conditioning. I also appreciate that Suzuki goes into detail about thoughts, seeing, experiencing and "...how to live with outselves and others." He is really a trip to appreciate.

Also, I have found that Tarthang Tulku speaks so clearly to me in most of his books, especially "Gesture of Balance" and "Openness Mind." These are real treasures for experienced and beginners with meditation and living a healthy life with an open,accepting and appreciating mind. I have been introducing these concepts with my grandkids as "mindfulness" and they are beginning to see their reactions and enjoy, even more, being in the moment.

The sun doesn't rise nor does it set. Our lives are similar. Once we get beyond the headsets of others the air gets cleaner, the head gets clearer, the problems of fitting in begin...

Hey, it is good to see you back and kicking up a storm. No one really knows what Sakya Muni really said but one thing that I do know is that you, like he, are buddha. Buddha is a compound word. It's great to be out of the compound.

The extended ramifications of being true to oneself.. to the oneness...so to speak, can be powerful and over powering. It all depends on how well one weathers the storm of the family discontent.
