No buds on the Dogwood.... this year
Penance of Winter
By Marissa A Spencer
The dogwood stands bereft of buds
Sitting in its winter silence; slumbering
The branches twist and turn to the sky
But no harbinger of Spring awaits
No promises, no rememberings
As if no Spring has ever existed
As if Winter has grasped eternity
and choked the flowering graces
The fairies sleep hidden away now
When they arise to touch the bending boughs
Their magic will not bring forth blooms
The dogwood will stand mute and still
No nodding or fluttering white flowers
A fairy wand cannot appease the earth
She will hold back her bounty this time
Cloistered in the penance of winter

29 Feb 2008 @ 06:34 by vaxen : And here...
the dafoodils, Jonquils, are out in abundance and the trees are budding and it isn't even spring yet! I'm waiting for the winter blast which will smack them back to await the silent call of springs budding...hey, but maybe they know something we don't? Nah, Nature gets faked out all the time by itself! Lovely little poem skookum. Thanks.

but the dogwood still has no buds this year
maybe not enough water last summer?
or my wasband's bad energy?
