I talked to my comp one students tonight about all the verb tenses that are available to them when they are trying to think about how to say what they want to say. I don't expect them to memorize all of these things. I have no idea how what I say is going to affect any of them, but perhaps, just perhaps, something I say will register with one or more of their cereberal neurons and they will have some little insight that will help them become a slightly better writer than they were when this course started. Once upon a time, a little boy got a Christmas present of a set of Ninja turtles. He played with them and was fascinated with them. One day he was playing in a water ditch and one of his Ninja characters fell in the water. The boy waded into the water to retrieve it, and as he did so, the waves of a flash flood came roaring down the channel, and swept the boy along. The wave carried him quite a ways, and when he finally got to a place where he was safe, he had that little Ninja turtle in his hand. He was so happy that he had found it. As time went on, he went to martial arts school, and learned Tae Kwon Do, and perhaps a few other things of that nature. There was a time when he was a young teenager when he was confronted by a thief who demanded money. The boy refused to give anything to the thief, so the thief pulled out a knife and attacked. The boy was stabbed twice, but was able to thwart and disable the thief with his martial arts skills. Later, when he was an older teenager, he had an opportunity to go to Thailand for some special schooling in the martial arts that he had become proficient at. He learned a lot there, and was invited to a special competition where he also did well. My children do not usually need a lot of outside inspiration. If a teacher can inspire...that is a wonderful gift.. but as you know... it isn't easy. Had a quite unique but nice smell if I remember correctly. Good to see your kids get your support for such projects. As I remember it, the people I lived with then could have cared less. I happened upon the recipe on the side of the corn starch box and made it myself. i think I caught hell for that. I'm sure your kids will succeed at whatever they wish to accomplish.
