It truly amazes me how often we, as humans, are afraid to speak our minds! I can understand it being hard to stand before a group of people you don't know & express yourself. What amazes me is that even on the web I see this happen all the time.
It happens in the news groups, 1000's of lurkers afraid to post because they may find others with opposing views, or may offend another. I see it all over in sections like this one, where comments can be made, even to what I am saying now. Are they utilized? Rarely!!!
I see it in forums, in our A&AC Forum alone. I have posted over 100 articles & have recieved under 5 comments. We have an open 'general' area to discuss most anything & yet no one says a word. Another section to post views, ideas, comments, suggestions, anything about the website - nothing posted!
People do have views, I know you do!!! I get the emails filling my box all the time. Questions, ideas, issues about the website, discussion on some of the topics... Everything that could be posted in at least 10 places on this website alone, end up in my email instead of in a place they might benefit others or encourage thought & debate.
I have to wonder... Why? Have we as a world society so beat up the individual that they are afraid of even saying 'boo'?
Come now... the web IS the one place left where freedom of speach & freedom of thought truly still EXIST!!!! Think about it. Noone is gonna call you at home tonight & say," Hey, you really showed how stupid you were with that speach today & then falling down the steps afterwards... what a klutz!!" Ok, it's not gonna happen, your on the web!! Even if you use your real name, who's gonna know you? Do you really believe your boss is gonna fired you for a post on the web he doesn't even know is you? Do you believe the IRS is gonna audit you because you called the 'crooks' on the web?
It's time to break the fear & speak your mind!! Here at A&AC we believe that no one is all right or all wrong, that we all learn from each other & that ideas are GOOD things!!!
Come share your knowledge, borrow others or just talk, together we may find some REAL answers!

Well, I think alot of times people don't comment is they really don't know enough about the subject. I mean your in a network of highly enlightened people, we rarly see comments from off the street, so to speak, yet most of the majority of people on the net in diolog are on IRC/Yahoo chats, and not so much forums. Theres lots of things I read, but most the time I have no comment to really make, unless I see something that might make me be more critical, I might say something. For me its about my mood, and is there something I can say that might add to the story /artical or secondary comment. If the story solicits a comment from me, or makes me want to ask a question. Like I wouldnt be one to comment to a lipstick story about what kinds make my lips feel good, lol. But if the story is about something Im into, I might comment if asked to, or given questions to answer. I supose though, fear of comming off looking stupid is a valid reason to not comment, or fear of government reprisals.

I am not so certain lack of response that the FEAR ( False Evidence Appearing Real) element is the dominate factor in a case of posting comments in a venue like this.My observation that when people are confronted with information that is stretching or on their outer boundary of their awareness. it places them in a place of akwardness. What are they willing to do,respond based of the limited personal resources or what info.they have been fed up to now or be willing to take the effort to go within in a meaningful way to arrive at a thoughful response. It takes a clear focus without a bias with a willingness and an intention to add a new dimension to the postings. Many are just not willing to take the time to be mentally flexed to do that inner work.

Agree with AaronB and his final sentence unfortunately. But it is also nice to see one's comments and/or the comments others actually going somewhere. This is a huge lucky payback.
Back to Aaron again, One has really got to like engagement irrespective of outcome (payback) and maybe this category of the unexpressioned need to acquire some tools of expression. My immediate feeling here is that this stems from the platform of learning to consider others, rather than the level immediate beneath, which is the infantile, me me me. Unfortunately, this condition has overtaken many others in our current educational systems; we all know of many individuals and political and giant organisational situations that are wholly governed from this perspective, which is why the rest of us are here at NCN. Once one is the position of considering others, a LISTENING ability has been achieved which equates with a HEARING ability, I would imagine in the brain.
Here then by natural deduction, said Sherlock Holmes, does lie the ability of EXPRESSION. How's that Dr Watson???
