McPlanet: Our Multiple Crisises (not just Earth, Climate, Finance...)
picture picture 26 Apr 2009 @ 04:14, by Heiner Benking

McPlanet this year is about very deep and tricky questions: What should we do when we eat up the whole planet? or leave it in the hands of a few. Should we reboot the system in times of multiple crisis? Is this a crisis of norms, values, our ways to analyze, imagine, communicate, present? or share, care and dare to confront issues and challenges as the same time? A multiple Crisis, or a multi-modal, many facetted crisis ??, a multiple crisis? Is shock a good treatment? as proposed by some as a "wake-up" call !?

I WONDER - having met Naomi Klein and have read and discussed with her some books and needed concerns and actions .... - how to leapfrog this dilemma of fear and dis-empowerment, not development but belittling important individual and common concerns...

The question in the article below is what to do, pragmatics and ethics, and how to address the root or driver probems, like how to overcome the fight over words, find ways of co-existence and co-creation without the compulsion to make others agree, and come to listening and sharing "modes" - not to experiment with back to "square one" demagogic drives, as the issue is not to restart an engine in operation, but check the metaphors and images we use, AND care for living things, greater goods and what we inflict onto others. Please read more also about dialog and decision cultures and a much need art of the arts: wise communication and good governance. (more)

Here at McPlanet, GAME OVER. NEUSTART ! I argue here that we need to confront early the many oversimplifications and overclaims, all the more dangerous the more we are not aware of them or think we know, when we do not. We "muddle though" with recipies, blame others, as always, forget that analysis and synthesis, diagnosis and therapy have to go hand in hand.

It is interesting to see that people lobby for their favourite recipe and stop thinking and sharing, following their lines of thought from A to B, think, flat, linear, zero-dimensional,.... (more/link) maybe start at OUR VIEW OF LIFE IS TOO FLAT. See also in German: [link]

The summing-up of of the opening panel on Friday was that we have to revisit the norms, or as the moderator proposed, our Vor- und Darstellungen. Great and tricky words in German, try with concepts, perceptions, representations, ways we design and display - communicate in General. Tricky this German: like: Anschauung or Kindergarten. (I just read a book from Robet Fulgrum: ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN. So - what do we actually do in higher education, lower education, vocational training, and life-long learning...?

Let us look deeper and check our words, not just our metaphors, analogies, our images and cherished icons. More academic minded people might like to be challenged later and dare to go (more) (more) ... or tackle jointly the Challenge of "Show or Schau".- To "out" myself: the author volunteers or consults in Berlin and elsewhere: check check or (elsewhere more)

Crisis is a word you could not find in official UN documents before the UN-CSD-15 two years ago. We had to campaign as a major goup in ECOSOC - addressing personally each delegate to be bold and call the climate crisis a Crisis. Why ?
It seems to be much easier to ignore and avoid than to confront, but also terms need to be understood, agreed upon, as without this Global Common of shared meaning we have Babylon... (when we think we know - but do not - and struggle faster and faster when we lost directions, perspectives and horizons... Thrilling, Daring, Challenging Weekend his was. Meeting Erupean Parliament movers on 2 events close to this Blog and this events, including Culture, Development, Media, Human Dimensions, ... all these relevent "fields" often neglected. Maybe we can bring issues together wich connect, overlap, relate and start inclding the scales, values, and Haltungen. (TRANSLATE**) ******

LAST NOT LEAST:

CRISISSES of GAU's
today we remember Tschernobly. AN IMPORTANTT STEP IN MY PROFESSIONAL and CIVIC LIFE - need to focus on this a.s.a.p. ****
Here the question remains: Was Tschrnobyl the first "visible" global Crisis !? We do not want to just make an orbitory of dreams and naiivity having died a generation ago - and the impact we still confront today and for generations to come.

Personally I remember my concern abotu visual demagogy from our measuring actiivities, but this learning is deep and needs more space. Here can only point to the need to question data and how they are communicated and received - towards which ends...
Tschernobyl and visual Deamgogy challenges closely and deeply experienced in the weeks directly after... ** more elsewhere **.

The question here is how we react to the GAU as a Global Crisis, what were the learning, and what do we do to not only avoid - but secure that such proportions and consequences will not hit Humnanity again, on any scale... please see Panetics, as the infliction of suffering needs to be addressed.
