Yesterday at the LEOPOLDINA [link] 2 presentations were standing out: Impact of Ethical Values and "Intercultural Dialogue and its Enemies". This only to be eager todays full program here in Halle, Germany.
The Annual Assembly of the Leopoldina and its publications are of the highest stand in the public eye, its president is in the Scientific Advisory Board of the United Nations, and all the other Academies, in Berlin, Mainz, even Salzburg as the European Academy of Arts and Sciences have their own high reputation.
The Leopoldina https://www.leopoldina.org/en/events/event/event/2263/ is the German National Academy of Sciences - like the NAS in Washington. Not in the capital but in an appropriate historic setting ! In the countryside - with the known disadvantages. Me as an "ignorant" only being here once, 25 years ago when President Richard von Weizsäcker was in town in times when the whole German scientific and cultural landscape was under redesign after the Berlin Wall was gone.... see more personal and "historic" concerns at the "very end".

14 lectures, scientists from very different regions of the world will explore the relationships between science and culture. Otfried Höffe, a philosopher at the University of Tübingen and this year’s programme coordinator, will introduce participants to the topic with his opening lecture, “Universalität ‒ mit Recht auf Differenz: Wissenschaften im interkulturellen Dialog” (Universality – with a right to differences: Sciences in the intercultural dialogue). Other participating experts include medical scientist Hayat Sindi (Cambridge/ USA), Heidelberg law professor Rüdiger Wolfrum, stem-cell researcher Joseph Itskovitz-Eldor (Haifa/ Israel), historian Chia-Feng Chang (Taipei/ Taiwan), mathematician and historian Andrea Bréard (Heidelberg/Germany and Lille/ France), and Berlin social historian Jürgen Kocka.

My concern when I came first in 1991 was "Challenges to Science and Politics" and "International Data Harmonization" leading to need to talk between the "exact and fine arts", bringing with the Club of Rome and Club of Budapest different mindsets together, and after attending many RSA events in London and Washington those days, so a good time to check the status and find the players nowadays, and touch base again with Professor Hacker - as his looks into the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs in general is of high concern for our COMMONS ALLIANCE and the regularily published recommendations to HoS in the US. I feel appreciated as these Academy Members are beyond the need to fight for their "turf" and are aware what they know or do not. Much easier going here than in the Mittelbau, with second and third-liner "elbow buddies". I talked with a real lot of participants friendly, open, deep, ... about names only few people know, So I was really surprised !
I promised often to send the like with INST and TUAC around the UN in Vienna.
