My friends do things with their daughters. They build skyscrapers out of bristol board. They dress up like goblins. They camp for days on end with nothing but a smile and a knowledge of the wild.
They take trips. They go to therapists. They eat junk food and buy shoes.
So, when a blatant opportunity to do something with my daughter came along, i had no choice but to show her the writing on the wall.
In this case, the numerous little beaded shapes that she'd been making so happily required more splendid presentation, so we decided together to make a wall hanging.
She and i discussed structure, colour and size. We arranged, then glued the shapes onto the canvas and then we each decorated individual squares. She surprised herself with her spontaneity, and i was surprised by her sense of movement in the static image. She loved angles! This was new information for me. How i love to watch inner vision manifest as outer. And when i'm learning more about my beloved 10 year old, it's all the more splendid.
Finally, i've scanned the wall hanging. Have a look and may you who do, grab the next opportunity to craft with a kid.
