Years ago some friends and I explored the Peak District National Park which is described as follows:

"The area has often been described as a microcosm of the English landscape: peaks and dales, rivers, woodland, moors and meadows all have their place in this wild Utopia. Acre upon acre of unspoilt countryside, remote and dramatic, looking much the same today as it did a century or more ago. But it is no mere chance that this outstanding beauty has remained for all to enjoy." Peak District  More >

Last night, I watched a documentary on television called Trust Me I'm a Healer. In this episode called "Mr and Mrs Healer", a man called Ray Brown claimed to be channelling the spirit of St Paul of Tarsus; Paul wrote most of the epistles in the New Testament of the Bible.

Funnily enough, the day before, I was reading about Paul's "thorn in his flesh" that he couldn't get rid of. He didn't say what the thorn in his flesh was but he claimed it was a reminder that he lived by Grace. (see 2 Corinthians 12: 7-12) So it was interesting to watch a documentary the very next day about someone who claimed to be channelling the same Paul. Perhaps, I was channelling Paul.  More >

Over the last week there has been a furore in the media caused by events in the "Celebrity Big Brother" household, where a group of celebrities had allegedly bullied an Indian celebrity. Thousands of viewers interpreted their actions as racist. Before you know it, politicians were on the bandwagon and it had now become an international affair. One day one of the women involved, who was seen as the ringleader, apologised to the Indian celebrity and they kissed and made up. The next day the "ringleader" was evicted from the house. During her exit interview, she expressed how disgusted she was with herself for behaving the way she did. She also insisted that her actions weren't racist.  More >

In The Catherine Tate Show there is a character called Lauren, a teenage girl whose catchphrase is "Am I bovvered?", which means "Am I bothered?" I would imagine Catherine was inspired by watching teenagers; well, she was a teenager once. I've seen many teenagers who speak like Lauren.

I believe the real inspiration for "Am I bothered" is not from teenagers, but the sky.

The sky is not bothered about anything. So what if it's cloudy? What do I care whether people are nice or horrible? Am I bothered? Do I look bothered? Am I?  More >

My mother went to the hospital yesterday for some more tests in preparation for her hip replacement operation next month. This time she was accompanied by my sister-in-law, who is a midwife and used to hospital procedures.

When I went home yesterday I asked mum how the appointment went. She said the consultant had a cancellation and asked if she was willing to have the operation done today. Mum said the shock of being offered the operation sent her blood pressure rocketing. It took a while for her blood pressure to return to normal.  More >
