Enocia Joseph: Let Go and Let All

Red was having a discussion with Green. Red was getting really frustrated that Green couldn't understand him. Green couldn't understand Red either.

Red thought to himself, "That's why I like to stick with my own kind. I would never have this problem with other Reds."

Little did Red know that Green was having the same thought.

The other colours had the same problem. They couldn't relate to other colours. They tried to understand one another. They got into debates which always ended up turning into a huge row. Reds and Blues couldn't get on at all; Red went purple whenever they got together. Some colours were a lot more tolerant than others but the bottom line was the colours tended to stick with their own kind.

The only one who didn't get involved in the constant bickering was White. One day while Red and Blue were at each other's throat, White said to them: "People, you are all colours. Can you all just get along?"

"We don't need your advice," Blue snapped. "Besides, you're not even a colour!"

"You are so wrong," White said. "I may not look like any of you but I can relate to all of you."

"How can you know what it means to be Red?" Red said. "You haven't been through what I've been through."

"I have," White said.

"How come?" Pink said.

"Because I have."

"Well, I don't understand you," Yellow said. "You never seem to let anything get to you. It's as if you're always sitting on the fence."

"That's because I can empathise with all of you," White said.

"That's impossible!" Orange said. "How can you empathise with all colours when you're not a colour?"

"Because I am the sum total of all of you," White said.

"What do you mean?" Purple asked.

"I mean, I am all colours in combination," White said.

"Are you saying you include Violet?" Violet said.

"Yes.

"And Maroon?"

"Yes."

"And Grey."

"Yes."

"What about Black?"

"Yes, you too, Black."

"No wonder you're always so calm," Indigo said.

White smiled and remained silent.

"How can we be like you?" Purple asked.

"By letting go of wanting to be just one colour and be all colours," White said.

"But I like being Green," Green said.

"That's not a problem," White said. "As White, you can be Green if you choose, or Red, or Aquamarine, or Gold or whatever colour you choose."

After what seemed to be a long colourful silence, Red said, "I need to think about this. I'm not sure if this is the right path for me to take right now."

"I was thinking the same thing," Blue said.

"And me," Orange said.

"There's no rush," White said. "Take all the time you need. I'm always here if you need me."

I've been watching an American dance contest on television called So You Think You Can Dance. The dancers are paired up and randomly assigned a dance style to present the next week.

"Many dance styles have been featured on the show, including jazz, bellydancing, contemporary, pop, modern, American jive, swing, disco, old and new school hip hop, krumping, paso doble, quickstep, lyrical, Broadway, Viennese waltz, smooth waltz, Argentine tango, mambo, cha cha, Cuban rumba, salsa and West Coast Swing."

Although each dancer has a dance style he or she prefers, I like the fact that dancers are encouraged (or challenged) to perform other styles, which is as it should be; Dance incorporates all dance styles.

Let go and let God is about letting go of the limited sense of one's self and being the All. Then you can choose to be whatever colour(s) you prefer.

I am White.
