Enocia Joseph: The Power of Music

I believe there's nothing like music.

While I was raised as a Christian, there was a lot that didn't ring true for me. As soon as I was old enough to make my own decisions, I rejected Christianity and the beliefs associated with it to explore what the meaning of life means for me. While I was searching I always had a foundation - music. Music was my personal saviour. There was a time when I couldn't go to sleep without listening to Michael Jackson's albums: "Thriller" and "Off the Wall" as I found them so comforting.

I find music has the power to bless, comfort, empower, guide, heal, illuminate, inspire and uplift. It was music that revealed who I truly am. In fact, my core self is sound, which I listen to during meditation. This sound feels very blissful and is healing. As and when the need arises, the sound transmutes itself into audible words that inspire and guide me.

I also love how music unites all kinds of people regardless of beliefs. I believe music has the power to dissolve all grudges.

As I was relaxing on the sofa flicking through the TV channels, I came across the Michael Jackson video "Beat It." In the song, Michael is singing about the futility of getting into gang fights. In the actual video two rival gangs meet up and get into a fight. Before things get out of hand, Michael splits them up and shares his dance moves with them. Together they dance to the chorus.

Just Beat It, Beat It, Beat It, Beat It
No One Wants To Be Defeated
Showin' How Funky Strong Is Your Fight
It Doesn't Matter Who's Wrong Or Right
Just Beat It, Beat It
Just Beat It, Beat It
Just Beat It, Beat It
Just Beat It, Beat It ~~ Beat It, Lyrics

While the guys are strutting their stuff, they are no longer thinking of killing one another.

Music is my Beloved.

All my love and gratitude to all musicians.

When I was a wee lass I used to fantasise about marrying Michael. I really love him. I know Quincy Jones produced the Thriller album.

Hugs,
