From whichever angle the seasonal time of late Winter / Spring is approached the auspices seem to remain remarkably similar. Astronomically the equinoxes (equal day length to night length owing to the sun’s position in the hemisphere) fall on 21 March and 23 September. Apparently, both these dates herald difficult times in which one should be careful. Is there a connection with the famous Ides of March warning of the auspices of Julius Caeser’s jealous political foes?

From the veydic sense this time falls between the Autumn/Early winter season which corresponds to one of the three major energies required for all organic life to take place, (including the Human’s) and the season of Summer corresponding to the Fire energetic. The Autumn/Early winter energy is the one of Movement with its inherent outward material characteristics of drying, airy, rough, fading away OR the vital energy which brings forth replenishment in organic matter depending on how the state of this energy is in the person concerned, in balance or a bit out of balance one side or the other (too much or too little – ie not in the mid point).

The summer energy Fire (resident in the middle of the body which digests edible matter AND mental matter) is the catalytic converter of Movement into matter, the third energy Earth/Water or solid form. The Fire energy enters the body through light into the eyes and through edible stuffs high in this energy itself, chilli, egg yolks, cheese, burnt things, tomatoes red things, etc. It also affects the body on hot days etc.

There are corresponding mental characteristics for each of the three energies and these can be manipulated directly through diet without argument (Gunas). These would be the mental equivalents of the vital energies in balance or a bit out of so. Every individual in the world is slightly different to the other and responds to these energies in their own way and which can be totally measured and assessed.

However, for Christians the Lenten meal is associated with Lentils and no rich dairy products including meats, traditionally too, all remaining flour of the previous year was used up to make the famous Shrove Tuesday pancakes. Ash Wednesday, the marking of the forehead with ash, could within reason signify the extinguishing of dulling of the Fire (Passion) mental components in one’s life AS well as the gastronomic component of huge repasts. All accentuated by the seasonal climate of noticeable frosty weather and the timely literal wishing for warmth, the wish component emanating from the heart area, which activates that part of the body communing it to the mind. (It can be remembered that many people only speak with their minds, and this exercise automatically brings the heart factor into the equation colouring thought processes).

The Christian Lenten dues can be seen as a withdrawing mentally and gastromonically from the worldly aspects of life using the most stable energetic, Earth energy of stillness and love. This energy actually allows the contemplation of things that may not have been entirely completely correct in the very best sense and their effect on the body and mind with regard to maintaining a healthy glowing warmth of love and heart for all those things good. A contemplation through the energetic itself manifesting at that time in the seasons. We are just the vehicle for the realisation of it and the allowing, or permitting, or deciding or actioning of what to do with it. We could smoke all day and watch movies and eat fried food, it would taste better than at any other time, but would also have the very worst effects in time on the capacities of the other energies and their roles in the yearly cycle of life.

This too illustrates the flimseyness of the notion of “Ego” which believes that all of these characteristics are actually an intrinsic part of their souls and selves. Yet again this is a further aspect considered in the Christian Lent. And it can be seen that a gentleness is required towards ones own physique (Ahimsa, for only when it happens to oneself can one do it in regard for others), for what the gross Ego has caused it to suffer by this very erroneous and misplaced belief. The Ego assumes that these natural manifestations in our environment affecting our beings was the Ego of the Self and so called free will!! Many erroneous justifications for a myriad of actions arise from this point. When viewed from a different framework, all the mistakes fade away of their own accord. There is NO hair shirt, or birch twigs syndrome, which is quite anachronistic of the medieval depths of past beliefs. Our physiques are meant to have a nice time, but it appears that only through this approach is the true state of contentment achievable.

From the veyda it is shown that the Earth/Water time (Winter) lies between the Movement season (Autumn), for mind and body and the Fire season(Summer), characterised by overdrive, zestfulness, controlling. The late Winter/Spring time is the testing time of the year perhaps suggesting surrender or yielding, a commanding of constant time frame here, calling in both the past and future energetics to realign inbalances. The Fulcrum of the seasaw between the Autumn/ Winter and Summer tendencies. If one has whizzed around totally inspired during the Movement season, in all manner of ways; eaten reheated food or non home cooked fare, which has accumulated Movement into the food quality, after consumption, rather than accelerate replenishment of cells at the later stage in spring, it will cause a RETARDATION and ageing, plus a woeful heart at this Fulcrum time of the testing of the energetics.

What is more, when Movement is out of sinc, say increased, with all that zest of life, the air component of this movement fans the flames of the Fire energetic because that is what it is precisely happens in nature (the wind blows the bush fire), perhaps even more so now. This Fire energetic will manifest itself in the Late Winter/Spring time of Earth predominancy in the form of colds and flu and fever and goodness knows what else, tooth problems (all to increased Fire).

So as a late reconciler of misdeeds done in the Movement season, one can take to the Lenten dues, to quieten the system and allow the Earth/Water energetic to fully manifest itself in order to prepare the body for the new growth of Spring time that we all love with Easter Eggs.
This also will allow the super Fire energetic to save itself until the Summer when it is required to create all that new growth and matter or form in the vegetable, animal or human kingdoms, in the correct fashion, fulfilling the cycle of life. So please, can dear people do their Earthly energetic dues!!

Whether one is Ancient Republican Roman, Catholic or ‘veydic or Eastern Orthodox or Lebanese Christian, or completely pagan, the action of mind body and heart/spirit is exactly the same: to drag the physique into the next cycle of life with the added blessing of success stating its own case at Easter time.

I didn't make one until now...when it is safe. Nigella carries a mysterious magnetic raye about with her that, it is said, sometimes actually disappears people entirely. She knows I love her work and all of her fascinating posts...but when it comes to techie things: stand back!
