22 Feb 2005 @ 19:45 by jmarc : Update 23 Feb 2005 @ 01:07 by sprtskr : The husband may be doing it for the money, why else would he want to end her life. I don't think he's paying any medical bills for her. If this is allowed to happen we should look for more of it to happen.Right to life! 23 Feb 2005 @ 01:16 by jmarc : I'd ask anyone who reads this That if they pray, that they will pray tonight that Judge George Greer gain the wisdom of Solomon and set things to rights tomorrow once and for all. If this woman is allowed to be killed, this may be the beginning of a huge backlash against the courts in this country, and that may be the death of everyone. 23 Feb 2005 @ 02:32 by vibrani : Jmarc Do you know how Terri feels? We have seen a photo of her for a few years that looks like she is smiling and happy. She probably was. But if you haven't gotten inside her soul to know exactly what she's feeling and what her soul wants to do, how can you or anyone else judge what is right for her? Maybe she wants to let go and needs help? I think she has been staying for her parents, nothing more. Is what she has now a quality of living? Hard to call that one - do YOU know for sure? If her body and soul have it in them to live, she will live without the life support. Remember, she has been on this for many years with little to no change. I used to think that her husband was in it for the money, but I no longer think that's the main motivation. It might be a combination of being allowed to have his freedom and life, and allowing her to move on, too, with respect and love for her. Sometimes doing this is the greatest act of love and courage - to honor the person's soul. If I were near a vegetative state, I wouldn't want to be kept alive like that for years and years against my will. Why not try to contact Terri's soul for yourself and ask her what she really wants? Personally speaking, I feel when the medical profession as a whole can embrace this knowledge and use it, instead of it being about one law for everybody, then I will know we have a more developed sense of real compassion for others. It's like people who have terminal cancer and are refused drugs to help them through it. That's inhumane. 23 Feb 2005 @ 03:03 by jmarc : terri isnt on life support she has a simple tube introducing food and liquid into her system. Is everyone that is incapable of taking nutrition the normal way to be left to see if their spirit is strong enough to survive? I don't know how terri feels, you are right. One would think that if she had been so adamant about wanting to be euthanized, she would have put it in writing, but, i may be wrong. If they kill Terri, they, me, us, we, will never know how she feels. We had to pull the plug on my foster brother, so i understand where you're coming from, but this situation seems far from the total hopelessness that was his lot. Plus as Spiritseek mentions, there is the money motivation. A one million dollar reward in fact. I, for the record, would never want the "plug" pulled on me, although i'll let it be known now, for the record, that i definitely would want the plug pulled on this blog, to avoid any unsightly bickering in the comment section after i am unable to administer it myself. 23 Feb 2005 @ 03:10 by vibrani : Yes, I know I have followed her story for a long time, jmarc. I know she's being fed through a tube. Jmarc, how many people do you know who have a living will? How many people think about it ahead of a catastrophe? Not that many. What we do know from her husband is that she would not want to be kept alive like this. Of course that's hard to prove without a psychic or channel/medium helping out, and up to people to believe him or not. Jmarc, we can have a very good idea what she feels. As someone who has done a lot of work with people in comas, people who decided while in a coma to die, and they explained what they were experiencing while in a coma or unable to verbally speak, I can tell you this is very real. It has helped many people. We are not just physical bodies and to leave out the soul of the person is tragic, I feel. What would happen if Terri had no husband or parents? 23 Feb 2005 @ 03:22 by jmarc : i feel that her parents have a purer motivation than her husband, who has left her behind( but not his claim to the 1 million) for another woman. Who benefits from her death? Her husband certainly would. and no matter how fascinating i find channels and mediums, present company included, i don't think i'd leave the decision in their hands. I think if she had no parents or husband this would be a non story, and terri would be six feet under already. But then i'm pretty cynical about the state of modern "medicine" and it's practitioners, so i see my own bias in answering that. What do you think would happen to her? 23 Feb 2005 @ 03:28 by bushman : My view is, the fact that she can breath on her own, starving her to death is the wrong way , we dont even make death row healthy people starve to death. If she wanted to die, fine, execute her the right way. I planed ahead, told everyone whose close, what I want. But heck, just shoot me in the head, instead of starving me to death. The whole thing is just plain sick, really, ooh we are so civalized. If people where even half way civalized , they would let her parents do as they may, to see if she does want to die, or if she can learn to be spoon fed like a baby, and then if she does want to die , hire DR Kavorkian, and do it right. ----------------------- Dr K is in jail, not having had the forethought to practice his trade in Florida, i guess. So you'd have to get someone else to do the deed. Being specific about your wishes to your loved ones is probably the answer Bushman, but probably in writing would be best eh? I think your going to live to at least 90 anyway, so don't worry yourself too much, ok man? ;)-jm 23 Feb 2005 @ 03:34 by vibrani : Okay but let's keep out the money and look just at the situation. No "normal" parent wants to see their child die and will do everything to save that child. Including lie for him (as in Scott Peterson's case) or be in denial. I have no doubt her parents' motives are pure, and may be a little selfish on their part. They want her alive for themselves, too. They're allowed that, of course. But, could they let her go if they knew that is what she really wanted? Who could help them understand that? In a way, Terri has become an unconscious puppet. I agree with you that if she had nobody she'd be dead and buried by now. She would be a burden on the insurance companies and hospital, etc. I have an adult son. When he was sick there was nothing I could do because he's an adult. I spoke with his doctor and he listened and considered what I said, but ultimately the decisions for my son's health were up to him and his doctor's. Terri is an adult, and no matter how much her parents love her and want what they feel is the best for her, they have little ability to do that legally. A spouse over rules the parents. This case, I think, is challenging the courts and it can be great for many reasons. Each case is indiviudal, and there is not one law that can pertain to every person when it comes to keeping alive someone who is not conscious. People's religious beliefs play a big part in this and I just hope there can be a happy middle ground where people can step out of their own shoes for a moment and honor the soul of the person who they are debating about. I know it will take some time for people and the courts to openly agree (I say openly because I know that it's been done privately) that the use of spiritual investigations will be the norm in such cases. And that will also require guidelines to prevent potential corruptions, as corruption can happen in any area. The use of mediums and channels or psychics to help out is really a gift to all parties, jmarc. It can bring closure, understanding, assistance for the invalid, no matter if they want to live or not. 23 Feb 2005 @ 03:43 by jmarc : It is a challenging case, no doubt and thats why i alluded to the judge gaining the wisdom of Solomon in my first comment, and didn't ask for the masses to rush the hospital and wheel her away to safety (as if!). Unless he orders her cut in half of course... 23 Feb 2005 @ 03:45 by vibrani : Well, he could suggest that and see what would happen. But I think many people are already hip to that Solomon story. 23 Feb 2005 @ 04:02 by jmarc : yeah ok maybe with a twist. I (playing Judge, jury and executioner) will grant your(Terri's husband) request to stop the feeding and watering of your wife if you sign over the rights to the 1 million dollars to her parents. For Terri's parents, will allow your daughter to live if..hmm if what. No real motivation for them huh? Well, he could pose the deal to the husband, and when he refuses, rule for the parents? 23 Feb 2005 @ 04:06 by vibrani : hahaha well, that is one idea he could try. How about splitting the money? Did some of that money already go for attorney's fees and hospital stay? Hey, I'm still having trouble dealing with how certain people are paid in our world, why a sports figure gets millions of dollars a year and teachers not even 100,000 a year. 23 Feb 2005 @ 04:30 by jmarc : Dont have an answer for that but i remember back in the eighties, i was a janitor for a local school district, and we'd get that line from the teachers all the time, them complaining that the lowly janitors were making more than some of them.. We'd remind them that we were there a full 8 hours every day, including all week long vacations, and the summer. They never seemed to buy that arguement. Judging by the shape they left their classrooms in, if cleanliness is any indication of control of the students), i don't think they earned what they were paid. Well, at least some of them. Whats wrong with tying their pay to standardised test results? Now we are totally off subject... 23 Feb 2005 @ 16:19 by sprtskr : Last night She was mentioned in the news here last night, she got a 30 second mention. If all she needs is to be fed threw a tube why can't her parents take her home? Maybe they don't really want the burden but don't want friends and family thinking they don't care by pulling the feeding tube out. 23 Feb 2005 @ 21:38 by hgoodgame : Does anyone see this as one of the seven signs? An innocent will die. If you are unfamiliar with the Seven Signs, there is a movie by that name which is not too hard to watch. These things going on are warnings that the end is near (not the kind of end you expect). If you know of anything happening that feels wrong to you and that you can do something about, DO IT, don't hesitate. Start with loving-kindness knowing everyone is right where they need to be (including YOU) and if that doesn't do the job, Kick Ass if necessary. If you don't think you can do it by yourself, get together with a few friends and have a discussion on the matter. Back in the old old days, the village conciousness, here's how it worked. If a man beat his wife and the neighbors found out, well, one night he'd be coming home from work and a whole bunch of guys would pound the shit out of him and let him know why and if it ever happened again he wouldn't survive. It sounds harsh, but it worked. People took care of each other. And they didn't whine about every little crappy thing either, they carried their load. Village consciousness. If it is beyond your reach, know that others are working on it, or participate in whatever way you feel propelled to. jmarc, Kurt used to work as a school janitor too. He's told me similar stories. I used to work as a teacher's aide with the mentally/physically challenged kids of all ages. Inside the school system one rapidly finds out that teachers can be very stupid. Having opportunity to sit in the teacher's lounge, I heard really mean-spirited comments by teachers against little kids, and so many other things that I quickly learned these were no teachers, they were just big bullies. A very few were good, but for the most part... Hmm, something about splitting hairs (heirs)? Anyway, my 2 cents worth. ;) 24 Feb 2005 @ 22:19 by bushman : Well again... we have the truth, and the truth is, even though she is now a useless eater, she is still there, and not even close to being brain dead, and obviosly she does want to live. So shall we consider a baby a useless eater too? since they can't feed them selves, they should be put to death too. Heres an eyewitness acount. Shall we starve the baby to death, or let her parents feed her? [link] 24 Feb 2005 @ 23:07 by jmarc : Update The Judges stay was extended yesterd for 2 more days til friday at 5pm. 25 Feb 2005 @ 06:26 by hgoodgame : I can't wait for the day when the people again get their wits about them (or would that be for the first time..) and do what is right instead of waiting for a bunch of Judges and Lawyers to bleed them dry. What's to extend? What's wrong with this picture? And why do so many people who live nearby enough to do something, not want to get involved? I don't know, sometimes I figure it works both ways. She's offering many people the opportunity to do the right thing but if nobody does, she is willing to die innocent and either way somebody wins. It would be more win/win though if someone (maybe her parents - whoever has legal custody) just said NO! I will not have the state interfere anymore! Or something like that. And then everyone else said, Yeah! We're with you! Then what? 25 Feb 2005 @ 13:50 by jmarc : your earlier statement about Village consciousness was reflected by a talk radio host i was listening to yesterday who said that if he were a member of Terri's family, he would make sure that her husband met up with such a posse. The governor says he will do everything within his power to stop this execution from happening, so maybe if the Judge rules wrongly, there will be other methods of helping her. Maybe the president can commute her "sentence". Meanwhile, in Beirut, a tent city forms as the cedar revolution starts to take hold against the oppression of the Syrians. No threat of being blown up in Florida though. Where are the activists when you need them in this country? Is it because this cause is seen as a republican cause because the Bushes are on one side of it, the knee jerk reaction from the professional protestors is to ignore? I hope not. 25 Feb 2005 @ 14:14 by sprtskr : Threats of assembly How far will people go in protesting when they know our gov. has ways of making you NOT TALK? What are we willing to loose in order to stand up for our rights,is it alot more then if its someone else we don't know? If we see it as though it will be our turn next then perhaps we will do more, its a shame we tend to come first in many circumstances. 25 Feb 2005 @ 23:47 by hgoodgame : People will not go very far in protesting because even the protesters are mostly sheep following a charismatic leader. Since we don't seem to have any charismatic leaders coming forward at this time and giving their 'mission statement', it must be because that leader hasn't grown up yet, or that all this mess is part of the solution and will self-correct like nature tends to do. (Remember the commercial - It's not nice to fool Mother Nature!) I wanted to add this about village consciousness which I didn't earlier. That man that was beating his wife, or kids, was beaten back, that's true. But the marriage was not dissolved over this. The marriage contract was inviolable. The husband was known in local slang as her God-gotten. The husband was given to the woman by God and vice/versa so they were to honor each other as such and grow up together, taking the bitter with the sweet and essentially to see God in their partner. Only certain lines were not to be crossed and these were made clear from the beginning. If we were ever to go back to village consciousness I would hope it would be a going forward and also seeing that back then all was not perfect either. What if you lived in a district that was run by corrupt people? Then, like now, you were screwed. Worse, because then it was harder to leave a region than it is now.
