In the August 8, 2005 NY Times, an article by Dina Kraft,
Coping With Adult Conflict in Gaza Can Be Child's Play, disgustingly demonstrates the Times policy of equating the Palestinian terror culture with that of the beleagered Israelis.

The attitude of moral equivalency expressed in this article truly frightens me.


On one hand some Arab children pretend to be suicide bombers or decorate their walls with pictures of rocket launchers and automatic weapons (aimed at Israelis of course).

On the other hand, some Israeli children play games about civil disobedience to cope with the soon anticipated expulsion from their homes. Or they put on their artificial limbs, their own legs having been shot off by rocket launchers or roadside bombs set off by fedayeen idolized by the Palestinian children above.

Inference becomes fact to the NY Times reporter. A blinded Palestinian girl and her family say she was hit by an Israeli bullet and the caption of her picture in the print version states this as a fact.

Given the number of weapons openly carried, and the irresponsible shooting done by fedayeen in Gaza, and the Israeli military codes regarding restraint of fire and the documented unreliability of Palestinian witnesses that is, the well-known tendency of Palestinian Arabs to blame all injuries of Palestinians to Israelis, it seems much more likely to me that the unfortunate little girl was blinded by a Palestinian bullet.

However, at this point, who's to know. Yet the reporter and caption writer (in the print version and in the on-line photo essay) basically takes the Arab family's inference, which they appear to believe wholeheartedly,as a fact. WHICH IT DEFINITELY IS NOT! The term for this in journalism: "lousy reporting."

At the same time, the reporter writes that "An Israeli missile apparently aimed at Sheik Salah Shehade, a founder of Hamas's military wing, had hit a nearby apartment building. Sheik Shehade, his wife and 13 others were killed, nine of them children. "

The missle we know, from Israeli accounts, was definitely aimed at Shehada, the civilian deaths were not intended and definitely regretted by the Israeli army.

By putting in the qualifier "apparently" in the account, the reporter places doubt on Israeli motives.

This whole piece shows the NY Times template for equating the beleagered Israelis with the Nazified Palestinian Arabs, whose children are definitely victims, but victims of their own hate-soaked anti-semitic culture.

The Hamas rocket aacttks that have killed no one:The rocket aacttks were undoubtedly "deeply disturbing" to Israelis. But so too are the checkpoints, the road closures, the restricted movement, the terrible joblessness, the unflinching oppression, the daily humiliations, the illegal settlement -- I'm sorry, "outpost construction", "deeply disturbing" to the Palestinians, and far more injurious. And the 300 dead Palestinians should be disturbing to us all.There is nothing proportionate in this response. No way to fit it into a larger strategy that leads towards eventual peace. No way to fool ourselves into believing that it will reduce bloodshed and stop terrorist aacttks. It is simple vengeance. There's a saying in the Jewish community: "Israel, right or wrong." But sometimes Israel is simply wrong.

I just came across this while chnekicg out the WordPress theme, but just wanted to add:- During the truce', which Israel observed, Palestinians have lobbed over 1,700 rockets into Israel in fact, there have been more rockets and mortars thrown into Israel during the truce then without it so this isn't a question of One or two rockets thrown over from Gaza'.- of the 385 (now, over 400) casualties on the Palestinian side, only' 60 or so have been civilians. Israel *does* have the technology for near surgical strikes, and they target either Hamas installations, weapons depots, infrastructure, or personnel.- Hamas deliberately uses civilian installations, like schools and mosques, to house their weapons, equipment, or personnel. This contributes as to why there are civilian casualties, as they use civilians as shields.- Israel, before targeting any buildings or locations that contain civilians, or have civilians nearby, alert and notify the civilians to clear the target zone. This is done either with flyers, or in some cases by making phone calls to the individuals advising to clear the premises. They are usually given 15 minutes or more to do so, which is plenty.- For the record, in contrast, Hamas targets civilians targets exclusively, with the intention of maximizing civilians casualties.There just seems to be a one-sided reporting on this issue, so I just wanted to throw in some factoids to balance this out.Thus, considering the above, and that we are not dealing with one or two rockets, at which point *DO* you decide that you have had enough shelling of your backyard, and are you allowed to do something about it?Think about that.

i'm racist and yet you're dinbrecisg AN. ENTIRE. POPULATION. OF PEOPLE. (jews) as soulless creatures , without grace I can't even deal with this one. this isn't an argument regarding religion. the unroportional death toll has nothing to do with the amount/severity of attacks. israelis WARN people of gaza where and when rockets will strike, palestinians blindly send them, by the hundreds now, no warning whatsoever. their attacks just happen to be intercepted. better luck next time guys! xoxo
