So heartwarming! Terribly interested A-d in the fact that eventually the flames change direction (scientific bit) in pic row five down left, once the oven warms. Your results were excellent for starters. There is something special about Earth ovens, it has the correct hierarchical arrangement. The sun normally on high above earth is subverted to be below the earth dome, thus the man hu element is created, and unless we all turn into lizards, we can enjoy such affiliations for the rest of eternity!!! 23 Apr 2007 @ 15:15 by a-d : "Bread of Heaven"!... .... exactly my thought! I still dream of having the kind of Peasant bread I ate ( with ferocious appetite) in Switzerland and in photo series here, part two, they show the results of their efforts; how the bread eventually came to be Heavenly... and it just makes my mouth water... the ol' Pavlovian.... It has been a Dream of mine to actually partake in several Classes and learn all these building techniques and then I want to build one such Oven here on our Farm in Montana. Nraye, you are welcome here (then) and we will have a FEAST, aye?!? : ) I'm so glad you, guys, vax & nraye, are as thrilled about these Natural Master Pieces as I am! ( I also love Strawbale Houses! Though, nothing feels really Complete without (at least ) one of these Earth Ovens, as the crowning of Sustainable HAPPY living -me thinks- on one's Farm). 24 Apr 2007 @ 11:46 by nraye : Quite'n Invite Yo A-D! do get going on those classes - wonderful pics in the Part II section reminding of a charming archeo dig other side of Vesuvius (from Napoli) of Bronze age settlers and their living modes which MUST have included such ovens but ALSO the most amazing designs for plates. No tables then, they ate in groups seated low on the ground, say on a stool, but the BOWLS they used, (and this is why I think they had bread) the bowls they used were like large wine goblets on stems and bases reaching the ground about 18 inches long!!! incredible!! The archeo's recreated the family scenario of Father and Daughter relationship thro remains and build up a sequence around a volcano eruption. For Bronze Age (2,000 - 3,000 bc) all quite advanced, more so than many folk today! Yes Strawbale building is supposed to be really nice, but my only experience is a teen farming, making strawbales in a sunny field with hedgerows and stacking them on tractors for the barn storage. Hay bales were used for Bar B Q's etc and barn dances - do you think the Bronze agers danced?? Oh those cup/plates were made of pottery. 26 Apr 2007 @ 11:35 by nraye : Needed Not but found something suiting a reciprocal offering for lovely invite above: [link] Not that I imbibe myself, but there is a such a romantic air about traditional arts and Pear Perry must surely be one of these. A good match for the Bread of 'Oven Outdoors of your own!! 26 Apr 2007 @ 16:19 by a-d : Hartpury seems quite delightful!... Yeaaahh.... i like to "get back to more basic living environment & style, that's for sure. (I also love old Arabic-inspired buildings ) Other entries in Communities 10 Apr 2008 @ 13:52: Survival 8 Apr 2008 @ 18:19: Freedom and Self-Selection 1 Mar 2008 @ 16:56: Whimsical Gardenings 30 Jan 2008 @ 18:06: A Bigger Flag to Fly 23 Jan 2008 @ 20:27: ANNOUNCING: Grand OPENING of The Lightsoflove Membership Circle !! 25 Nov 2007 @ 11:18: A Mournful Thanksgiving 8 Nov 2007 @ 01:49: The value of connections 12 Jul 2007 @ 14:58: Auroville. 5 Jun 2007 @ 20:31: Biocities. 11 May 2007 @ 21:30: New Civilizations
