It is a pleasure to receive feedback and encouragement, this is a lovely way to open a dialogue. I agree that breathing techniques are a valuable aid in steadying the emotions and calming the bodily systems, this in turn will certainly allow the mind more freedom to function and this is a pre-requisite to mental clarification.
As for things seeming hard, consider that this could be a direct result of some degree of lack of clarity and an attitude (conditioned response) toward things rather than an accurate assessment of a things' true nature.
It can indeed seem difficult to accomplish the task of clearing and focussing the mind simply because we need to use the mind to do the work and it may not be clear enough to realize its own potential to do so.
One of the techniques that has been successfully employed since ancient times is meditation. There are many styles of meditation it is true, however the one that can best help engage the mind in the early stages is guided visualization.
The exercise of visualization helps develop the ability to see within the 'mind's eye' which when developed can be used to observe the mind from within.
Currently on my website [link]
there is a project underway incorporating a series of guided meditations in text form which it is hoped will help guide folks along the path of self clarification and deepening understanding of the Underlying Nature of Reality, it will be interesting to work with others around that material and all are invited to share their experiences with it, impartial suggestions are also welcome.
