I had a friend with psoriasis in grade school. She suffered embarassment because of her skin and most of us kid's didn't know that it wasn't contagious so we were afraid of our skin touching hers. When I look back on it now, I realize that she must have always felt like a leper or someone unclean. I wish I had known more back then and could have helped her. Perhaps kids with this skin condition don't suffer anymore like my friend did but I'm sure it still is an embarassment to deal with the symptoms of psoriasis. I have found that there are natural remedies that can help relieve the symptoms and just added some info on caring for psoriasis psoriasis relief to my website. I would like to hear from any other NEWCIV members or anyone else who happens to read this post, about any additional remedies for psoriasis that you might have personal experience with, good or bad. I'd like to know any remedies that just didn't work as well as any that worked well.

With more than 5% of the world's population suffering from Psoriasis, a skin disease expressed by redness and dry patches of skin, the ailment is no freak occurrence. While there is still no total cure for the disease, many of those affected with the ailment are turning to Dead Sea cosmetics made with Dead Sea Salt and minerals for a more natural based source of relief. The Dead Sea is located in Israel and Jordan and attracts thousands of tourists every year, seeking to bathe in the it's legendary waters and experience the healing and beautifying powers of it's mineral rich Dead Sea Mud and salt contents. The sea has been around for centuries and has attracted many legendary historical and biblical figures. Cleopatra was fond of the high mineral composition of natural skin care products made with minerals from The Dead Sea and built cosmetic factories on the shores of the sea to harvest the salt and mineral contents.

Several clinical studies have been done in the last thirty years that show that the highly concentrated salt content of the Dead Sea has not only beauty and anti aging properties, but also carries great skin health value. The studies showed that regularly bathing with water from The Dead Sea or using such products as hand cream, Dead Sea soap and bath salts, actually helps relieve psoriasis symptoms over a 6 week regiment.

Many people find out about the health and beauty properties of Dead Sea products when they visit Israel, either as tourists or on a church sponsored trip that carries religious meaning. The Dead Sea scrolls, recently discovered made the The Dead Sea a household word and really popularized the age-old region. With that discovery many more people began to find out what the local people already new for centuries -- that skin care products made with the minerals from the salty lake carry magical properties. One of the main reasons why the sea has so many therapeutical abilities in its ingredients is the fact that being the lowest point on earth, it has the highest amount of barometric pressure on it. It's also not connected to any other body of water so as its salty waters evaporate the minerals and salt are left behind in much higher concentration than anywhere else in the world.

Many say that the Dead Sea is an enigma, since it has such a depressing name, but its mineral contents bring forth enhanced beauty, health and life. Since Psoriasis is an ailment which afflicts so many people: an effective all natural, psoriasis treatment option is highly welcome. Not every one can make it out to Israel for several weeks of skin treatment and because of this many people today prefer to use these products in their home. The products can be found online as well as in spas and malls across the county.

Firstly, it is important to understand a little about the location of the source. The Dead Sea has a unique climate which has been shown to offer excellent natural treatment for many health problems.

The Dead Sea is the lowest place on earth, over 400 metres below sea level located between Israel and Jordan, the region has a dense air rich in bromine and other elements which filters and limits the ultraviolet B radiation from the sun, reducing the danger of sunburn and allowing longer exposure to the sun's rays. The thick atmospheric pressure is also associated with an increase in oxygen - 5 per cent richer than air at sea level and 10 per cent higher than the air in Jerusalem, only a two hour drive away.

The water in the Dead Sea contains 345 grams of mineral salts per liter and is approximately ten times higher in saline than ocean water and enriched by hydrogen sulfide gas. For this reason no plant or animal can survive in the water and bathers are able to float in the sea. The major salts are magnesium, sodium, potassium and calcium.

The benefits of being in the water are legendary. Calcium clarifies the skin surface and relieves pain; sodium balances the pH of the skin; chlorine is a natural antiseptic that boosts the skin's protective layer and reduces swelling; magnesium enhances functioning of skin metabolism, facilitates breathing and protects against allergies; bromine is a muscle relaxant; potassium regulates the body's water balance; iodine improves thyroid health and cell metabolism; sulphur detoxifies and stimulates the metabolism.

It is known, by many people who live in Israel that those who arrive too ill to venture into the sea often improve just by breathing in the air. Often they can go into the water in a matter of days.

Health funds in Denmark, Germany and other European Countries now offer incentives to its members who wish to visit the area within Israel and Jordan. This has resulted in the subsidizing for people suffering from both Psoriasis and other skin conditions.

If Health Insurance companies can be considering full or partial coverage of treatment at the Dead Sea for relief and treatment of skin disorders, then it seems fair to assume that the use of products manufactured from the Mud and minerals of the Dead Sea also has its benefits.

"The word has been spreading and after trying Dead Sea products many people fall in love with them," says Alex Keyan, President of Cleopatra's Choice Dead Sea Products, "We have customers all across the country and even in Europe who come back over and over again to replenish on these products. Many find that it's a natural and healthy way to get rid of wrinkles as well as treat psoriasis or acne. So far our mud masks have been the most popular.

I haven't used those particular products but have thoroughly enjoyed using dead sea salts for baths. I don't have psoriasis so I can't vouch for whether it would work for that or not. I should have prefaced the article with that, so thanks for asking the question.
