I watched a great documentary last night on TV ...

Auroville

The Auroville Charter

1. Auroville belongs to nobody in particular. Auroville belongs to humanity as a whole. But to live in Auroville, one must be the willing servitor of the Divine Consciousness.

2. Auroville will be the place of an unending education, of constant progress, and a youth that never ages.

3. Auroville wants to be the bridge between the past and the future. Taking advantage of all discoveries from without and from within, Auroville will boldly spring towards future realisations.

4. Auroville will be a site of material and spiritual researches for a living embodiment of an actual Human Unity.

12 Jul 2007 @ 17:22 by a-d : THANK YOU, Bimbo,
for posting Auroville! I LOOOOVE Auroville -and one of these days me & a friend from here, NCN are planning to visit Auroville! I soooo wish they would open up an Auroville in North America. They recently opened -or at least planned to do so- one...... uuuuuhhhh I need to do some checking here...I have forgotten Thannngs.... be right back! : )

OK, here's some more Info: [link]

...an' how/bout this? : ) [link]

I took up AVI once again when, "Someone" here on NCN promoted their - IMHO not so good- MODEL for Future Community, with the pretention that NO Sustainable Communities yet exist, to which I had to object.
I just could not agree and allow the deception to just float by, thus me taking up a few Examples, AVI being among them I chose to mention (and Findhorn another ).
Of course, NCN, loyal to its own nature, just like Snakes are -and indeed we all, pooh poohed all the BY THE WHOLE WORLD ACKNOWLEDGED Community Models already in full swing, so to speak.... Ahhhh.... Nothinnnnnggg according to those on NCN who KNOW; None mentioned, None forgotten ;) !....
Hopefully your display here of AVI will receive a warmer Welcome. : )
Thanks, SoulSis! /a-d

The idea has been around for quite a while I believe.

The Oshara Model
At a time when Americans serach for sustainable, the impossible becomes the possible. Oshara Village offers the choice to dramatically decrease the impact of a family on the environment while reducing cost of living and enhancing quality of life. Oshara Village will reclaim all wastewater for irrigation, require energy star appliances and encourage domestic solar water heating among other environmental features....
