Apart from the fact that the Great Redactor has God refer to himself in the plural, this passage is interesting in that God has caught man in the middle of becoming a God himself. Innocence may have been the original state, if we are to believe the Great Redactor, but it is lost with knowledge. And not having had the chance to carry things through by eating of the tree of life, mankind seems to be stuck in somewhat of a no gods land, a limbo, unable to progress further spitiually. What a jelous fearful god(s)(t)he(y) must have been. When ones child progresses to it's teen years and begins to rebel against the parents, ( a mark of them becoming themselves and not their parents) does the parent cut all chance of progress short by removing the chance of further progression, or do they loosen the reins more and allow them to become themselves. God should have let mankind eat also from the tree of life and continue his progression. Maybe there were reasons why he didn't? I don't know, but I take the Great Redactors books more as metaphor and conglomeration of still more ancient myths, and believe it dangerous to take everything so literally.
