Dear WMS members,

Later on today or tomorrow, I’ll be sending out a collection of responses to my recent, “Rise and Fall of the New Age” article, which should prove interesting to most. Given the considerable response to this item, I doubt I’ll be able to personally answer most letters…but thanks to everyone who has responded.

Next, I’m forwarding to you a very excellent and quality compilation, regarding a number of important world issues by the C.L.G. group. This comprehensive powerhouse of articles and links, places the current “showdown” with Iraq as it is commonly referred to in the meat-hungry American media, in its proper context. Also contained below is the ever widening gulf between UN and NATO members over the quite-insane, bellicose, U.S. imperial war stance, in Iraq and elsewhere. This is a particularly interesting development given that France, Germany and now Belgium, are joining together to coordinate ways to prevent, or at least stall, the American oil-takeover. Congratulations and a hearty “well done” to these courageous countries, (regardless of any hidden agendas they may or may not have)!

Various analysis of statements made by Donald, “Death Skull” Rumsfeld, Colin “Sell Out” Powell and George “Dictator” Bush abound, much to their chagrin I’m sure. It’s good to see these guys getting appropriately spanked.

Military Reservists are refusing to report in for the slaughter, demonstrating the true meaning of patriotism and courage.

New “Patriot” Act revisions are in the works……

[Taking this opportunity to comment on Powell’s, “presentation of irrefutable evidence of Iraq’s guilt”, I’d like to ask Bush apologists a simple question. Powell showed slides, (satellite photos) of places where, “weapons of mass destruction” are supposedly being hidden or manufactured. If in fact United States “intelligence”, (a contradiction in terms) knows so much about Iraqi doings from satellite photos, on the ground spies, informants and defectors, constant over flights and an army of inspectors who pull surprise visits at random, then why didn’t they simply send those same inspectors to these sites already, to dig up their so-called “smoking gun”? Obviously there’s nothing to really find at these locations, or they would have done exactly that. It’s truly amazing the general lack of simple and straightforward logic, used in evaluating such media propaganda. Some people take such nonsense as good coin, and happily wave their flags in the breeze.]

Michael Rectenwald responds to a CLG visitor who observes that we are "incredibly self dilluted" --Michael Rectenwald notes, "This war is for more than oil--it is for military contractors to get paid off, for control of the region, for control of the water, and for oil. But it is NOT about WMDs--99.9% of the weapons of mass destruction in the region are those of the US and the UK. The weapons are perched around Iraq, like the evidence in search of a crime." US puts screws to Germany over Iraq --Washington is tightening the economic screws on Berlin over a looming conflict with Iraq, threatening to clamp down against both the government and private companies in staunchly anti-war Germany, according to press reports. The US has decided to freeze all but the bare minimum of its planned multi-million investments in its German military bases "because of the political situation," the weekly Welt am Sonntag will report on today.

US fury at European peace plan --Transatlantic tensions burst into public slanging match as French and Germans call for more time --The Bush dictatorship reacted with rage last night to a Franco-German initiative to extend arms inspections in Iraq, portraying the plan as a thinly disguised attempt to derail the US timetable for war.

US scorns new moves to stop the war on Iraq --Powell rejects Franco-German plan; Inspectors see signs of 'progress' --America poured scorn on a new plan for Iraq proposed by France and Germany as a way of averting war last night, deepening the rift with its reluctant European allies. Plagiarist Colin Powell, the lying US Secretary of State, dismissed proposals for tripling the number of inspectors, backed by armed UN peace-keepers, as a "distraction, not a solution".

'We will defy Paris and Berlin. They will be judged by their people' --Donald Rumsfeld --Plans by France, Germany and Belgium to block the transfer of Nato equipment intended for the protection of Turkey were “breathtaking”, Donald Rumsfeld, the US Defence Secretary, told The Times. “They (the three countries) will be judged by their own people and they’ll be judged by other Nato countries,” he said.

France, Germany and Belgium Block NATO War Efforts --France, Germany and Belgium on Monday blocked NATO efforts to begin planning for possible Iraqi attacks against Turkey, deepening divisions in the alliance over the U.S.-led push to oust Saddam Hussein. Turkey immediately requested emergency consultations under NATO’s mutual defense treaty, or Article 4, the first time a nation has done so in the alliance’s 53-year history.

Belgium says will use NATO veto to block US in Iraq --Belgium will use its veto power in NATO to block a US request for the military alliance to support a US-led military strike on Iraq, Foreign Minister Louis Michel said on Sunday. Speaking on Belgian television, Michel added that he expected France and Germany also to block the US request.

Germany in bid to block war on Iraq --Germany was trying last night to build a coalition to prevent America and Britain from going to war with Iraq, threatening one of the biggest transatlantic rifts for decades.
Chancellor Schroeder to present Franco-German peace initiative to parliament --German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder will present the details of French and German proposals to disarm Iraq to the Bundestag lower house of parliament on Thursday. The proposals, confirmed on Sunday by German Defence Minister Peter Struck, have been presented as an alternative to military action against Iraq.

US furious over reported Franco-German plan on Iraq --US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld headed back to Washington from a brief European tour Sunday as US officials lambasted France and Germany for allegedly leaving them out of the loop [LOLOLOL!!!] on a joint plan to disarm Iraq. Senior officials made it clear that they were deeply unhappy at being told of the reported plan only hours before Rumsfeld was due to fly out of Munich, where he had been attending a high-level security conference.

Ashamed that Rumsfeld is one of the family --The Rumsfelds of Weyhe-Sudweyhe, a suburb of Bremen, were once proud of their long-lost cousin, America's Secretary of Defence. No longer. "We think it is dreadful that Donald Rumsfeld is out there pushing for a war against Iraq," Karin Cecere [nee Rumsfeld], 59, said from her home last week. "We are embarrassed to be related to him." [Poor Rumsfelds of Germany, their long-lost cousin is neo-Nazi war-hawk whose skull looks like death itself. They're rightly embarrassed to be related to him. Well, we're embarrassed that he is our Secretary of Military Imperialism.]

Poll: Germans Believe U.S. a Nation of Warmongers --A majority of Germans believe the United States is a nation of warmongers and only six percent think Dictator Bush is interested in keeping the peace, according to a survey published Monday.

Canada Backs Turkey in NATO Dispute Over Iraq --Canada said on Monday it backed Ankara in a dispute over whether the NATO alliance should help Turkey strengthen its defenses in case of a U.S-led assault on Iraq.
Washington and London Isolated --by Timothy Bancroft-Hinchey "The United States of America and the United Kingdom have managed to isolate themselves from the main decision-making centres of international diplomacy and simultaneously, put on stand-by a process of forming a New World Order, based upon the UNO, discussion, diplomacy and a multi-lateral, equalitarian approach to crisis management."

US Plans for Use of Gas in Iraq --Top US military planners are preparing for the US to use incapacitating biochemical weapons in an invasion of Iraq. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Gen. Richard Myers, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, revealed the plans in February 5th testimony before the US House Armed Services Committee.

Powell's 'proof' is all smoke and mirrors --by Eric Margolis "[Colin] Powell's philipic [philippic] encouraged those favouring war. Skeptics dismissed it as a farrago of dubious claims. A good defence attorney would have had most of Powell's charges thrown out of court. France, Germany, Russia and China concluded Powell's indictment showed the need for stronger, continued inspections rather than war... Note: America's two most recent major wars - Vietnam and the Gulf - began with release of faked 'intelligence' information: the non-existent Gulf of Tonkin attack in 1964, and doctored photos of a non-existent Iraqi invasion buildup on the Saudi border in 1990."

Lying Us Into War: Exposing Bush and His "Techniques of Deceit" --by Dennis Hans "President [sic] George W. Bush and his foreign-policy team have systematically and knowingly deceived the American people in order to gain support for an unprovoked attack on Iraq... It is not one single lie that has an effect on the public. It is the cumulative effect of dozens of lies, big and small, reiterated daily and challenged rarely. That is the effect that has brought us to where we are today."

Level with us, Mr. President --by Edward Kennedy "The administration has released no casualty estimates [of war with Iraq], and they could be extremely high. Many military experts have predicted urban guerrilla warfare - a scenario which retired General Joseph Hoar, who had responsibility for Iraq before the Gulf War, says could look ''like the last 15 minutes of 'Saving Private Ryan.'''

Iraq OKs use of spy planes --Iraq sent a letter to U.N. weapons inspectors Monday approving the use of U.S.-made U-2 surveillance planes and pledged to pass legislation next week outlawing the use of weapons of mass destruction, Iraq's ambassador to the United Nations said.

We sense a change of heart in Baghdad, says Blix --The top UN weapons inspectors, Hans Blix and Mohamed el-Baradei, sounded unusually optimistic last night as they emerged from talks with Iraqi officials, saying that they had perceived "the beginning of a change of heart" by Iraq.

'Dr Germ' claims Saddam never planned to use his deadly toxins --Iraq's leading germ warfare scientist, Rihab Taha, known as "Dr Germ," justified her country's biological programme last night as purely defensive and denied that deadly agents had ever been designed for use in weapons.

Saudi Arabia plans for a future without US troops --Saudi Arabia's leaders are making preparations for an era of military disengagement from the United States. Saudi Arabia Denies Plan to Seek U.S. Troop Pullout --Saudi Arabia's leaders will ask U.S. forces to leave the country after any war with Iraq, according to a New York Times report on Sunday that Saudi and U.S. officials called speculative and hypothetical.

News Industry Plans for War and Worries About Lost Ads [?!?] Network executives are also weighing the possibility that the harsh reality of war might diminish the astounding popularity of reality television. [?!?] The question was first raised and then dismissed after Sept. 11, but scenes of American troops fighting on the ground may be another matter.

Howard Coble, R-Nazi-6th, N.C. about Japanese internment during World War II --The Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) demanded an apology from Coble. In a letter released Wednesday, the group also called on U.S. House of Representatives leadership to remove him immediately from the chairmanship of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security. 'Bomb' Package Addressed to Ashcroft at Federal Building Is Pornography (PA) The briefcase-sized box, wrapped in what appeared to be a green garbage bag and left at the entrance of the William J. Nealon Federal Building in the 200 block of North Washington Avenue, was full of pornographic magazines and videos. A note on the package was addressed to U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft. ...A bomb squad member shouted, "Fire in the hole!" and the package popped in the air, its glossy, pornographic contents scattering.

As Cities Move to Privatize Water, Atlanta Steps Back --Privatization has hit the water sector, which has remained mostly the bastion of public utilities. Over the last five years, hundreds of American communities, including Indianapolis, Milwaukee and Gary, Ind., have hired private companies to manage their waterworks, serving about one in 20 Americans. [Envision an Enron clone trying to boost its profits, managing our water sectors, and the ramifications of this insane scenario. Bush to Seek to Boost His Image on Economic Policy [LOL!] Dictator Bush's intermittent [pathetic, Weasel-like] efforts to appear as concerned about jobs as he is about [fomenting] terrorism have never taken hold, and his aides say he will use the next two weeks to try to improve his footing on the economy before likely plunging into a[n insane] war with Iraq. Of course, the bush will focus on the slaughter of palestinians, and koreans, and everything in between and to either side, once they start in on Iraq. Now they're planning to just *gas* the Iraqi's so there won't be such international outrage over bombing them. And if Saudi Arabia makes one move, that'll justify anything they have planned for them. Same with any european country, or any other nation, right?

And I wouldn't be surprised if it's the bush team buying up stock in these factories, sucking out the money, filing bankruptsy, and then ending life insurance policies and healthcare benefits. Seeing how that's what's going on, of course they'd want in on it.

Thanks for the news Sandi.
