So many innocents are being killed in this massacre! The rockets that were targeted at Israel did not Kill even one Israeli and yet the massive attacks by Israel that are being conducted now, as we speak, is said to be in retalliation. Read on for an accurate report.......

Washington bears guilt for Gaza war crimes
29 December 2008

The Israeli massacre of Palestinians in Gaza is a war crime for which not only the government of Israel but also that of the United States bears full responsibility.

The relentless bombing campaign, which in its first 48 hours has left at least 300 dead and 1,000 wounded, is a deliberate slaughter of innocent civilians and an act of state terror. The toll of casualties, many of them women and children, is certain to rise. As Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Gabi Ashkenaz put it, "This is only the beginning."

The pretense that this assault is an act of retaliation for the recent scattered rocket attacks that have been carried out against Israeli territory from inside Gaza is preposterous. Israel, with the collaboration of Washington, has been preparing the current bombing campaign and threatened ground assault for months, under the cover of the supposed cease-fire with Gaza's Hamas-led administration.

"These people are nothing but thugs," said White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe, who insisted that Israel was only acting to "defend itself" against "terrorists."

This is the official story that is largely echoed by the mass media and endorsed by the leadership of the Democratic Party.

Few bother to point out that not a single Israeli was killed by the homemade rockets that supposedly justified Israel launching its Gaza bombardments and killing 300 (one Israeli died in a rocket attack afterwards.) Such a disproportionate response is hardly an aberration. During the last eight years, barely a score of Israelis have died in rocket and mortar attacks from Gaza. During the same period, Israeli forces have killed nearly 5,000 Palestinians.

Nor is there much concern over the fact that Israel chose to launch its bombing in the most crowded and desperately poor urban area on the face of the earth precisely at the hour that schoolchildren were making their way home. Under these conditions, ritualistic US statements urging Israel to "avoid civilian casualties" amount to mocking the victims.

Having maligned an entire people as "thugs," the White House has given the green light for a bloodbath. More importantly, it has provided the indispensable resources for carrying out this crime, assuring Israel more than $3 billion a year in US military aid and supplying the IDF with the deadly tools of its trade—F-16 fighter jets, Apache attack helicopters, TOW and Hellfire missiles and the fuel and spare parts needed to keep them in operation.

The dispatches from inside Gaza provide a graphic accounting of what Washington got for its arms and money.

Safa Joudeh, a freelance journalist in Gaza City, writes: "There were piles and piles of bodies in the locations that were hit. As you looked at them you could see that a few of the young men were still alive, someone lifts a hand, and another raises his head. They probably died within moments because their bodies were burned, most had lost limbs, some of their guts were hanging out and they were all lying in pools of blood."

Ewa Jasiewicz reports from Gaza: "We saw a bearded man, on a stretcher on the floor of an intensive care unit, shaking and shaking, involuntarily, legs rigid and thrusting downwards. A spasm coherent with a spinal chord injury. Would he ever walk again or talk again? In another unit, a baby girl, no older than six months, had shrapnel wounds to her face. A relative lifted a blanket to show us her fragile bandaged leg. Her eyes were saucer-wide and she was making stilted, repetitive, squeaking sounds."

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz carried a report from its correspondent on the scene: "Relatives search among the bodies and the wounded in order to bring the dead quickly to burial. A mother whose three school-age children were killed, and are piled one on top of the other in the morgue, screams and then cries, screams again and then is silent."

The New York Times, hardly known for its sympathy for the Palestinians, acknowledged: "Still, there was a shocking quality to Saturday's attacks, which began in broad daylight as police cadets were graduating, women were shopping at the outdoor market, and children were emerging from school.

"The center of Gaza City was a scene of chaotic horror, with rubble everywhere, sirens wailing, and women shrieking as dozens of mutilated bodies were laid out on the pavement and in the lobby of Shifa Hospital so that family members could identify them. The dead included civilians, including several construction workers and at least two children in school uniforms."

This is not self-defense; it is premeditated mass murder. The aim of the "shock and awe" campaign, as the assault on Gaza is widely described in Israel, is similar to that conducted by the US against Iraq—regime change.

Neither the Zionist regime nor Washington accepted the victory of Hamas in the 2006 Palestinian election—hailed by the Bush administration (before the results were known) as part of a flowering of democracy in the Middle East wrought by American militarism.

In response, the US and its Israeli ally did their best to provoke a Palestinian civil war and military coup and, when this proved ineffective in ousting Hamas from power in Gaza, subjected the territory's one-and-a-half million people to relentless collective punishment. They imposed a siege that choked off supplies of food, medicine, potable water and electricity, condemning masses of people to poverty, unemployment, hunger and disease. The present killing represents a qualitative escalation of this merciless policy of making life for the people of Gaza so intolerable that the Hamas regime would fall.

The New York Times Sunday gave a concise analysis of the real relationship between the Israeli blockade and the rocket attacks from Gaza. The siege, it stated, had led to "the near death of the Gazan economy," adding, "While enough food has gone in to avoid starvation, the level of suffering is very high and getting worse every week."

Hamas had entered a cease-fire with Israel in a bid to reopen trade and alleviate this suffering. While the rocket attacks, supposedly Israel's main concern, fell "dramatically in the fall to 15 to 20 a month from hundreds a month," the Times noted, "Israel said it would not permit trade to begin again because the rocket fire had not completely stopped..." It was this intransigence that led to the collapse of the Israeli-Hamas cease-fire.

From the outset, Israeli actions have been motivated not by concerns for security, but rather by political aims. In the first instance, there is the desire to oust the Hamas administration in Gaza. Also in play are the desires of the Zionist establishment and military to offset the humiliation they suffered in Lebanon in 2006.

For Washington, support for and direct complicity in Israeli war crimes is bound up with a wider strategic policy of creating a new order in the Middle East, one designed to assure undisputed US domination of the region and its oil wealth. Israel represents the junior partner in this bloody venture and is allowed to satisfy its aggressive appetites because they are seen as furthering US imperialist interests.

Regime change in Gaza is viewed by US policymakers as a steppingstone to similar changes elsewhere, particularly in Syria and Iran. Indeed, the unfolding events in Gaza foreshadow a broader intervention in the Middle East and the threat of a new war against Iran.

It is not, it must be noted, merely a question of the US and Israel. The assault on Gaza has enjoyed the direct or tacit support of the Arab bourgeois regimes, in the first instance that of Egypt, which has set up machineguns on its border with Gaza to shoot down fleeing Palestinians. The West Bank-based Palestinian Authority of President Mahmoud Abbas has likewise offered justifications for Israel's crimes.

The Bush administration has pursued its policy in the Middle East with relentless violence for the past eight years. There is no indication, however, that it will fundamentally change with the transfer of the White House to President-elect Barack Obama in less than a month.

Obama has maintained a discreet silence on Gaza, while consulting with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice from his vacation home in Hawaii. His aides have complacently insisted that there is "one president at a time" and it would be inappropriate for the advocate of "change we can believe in" to voice an opinion on the slaughter being carried out with US-supplied warplanes, bombs and missiles.

Elements of the Zionist establishment in Israel have voiced suspicion about Obama's policies, and there have been some suggestions that his approaching January 20 inauguration may have played a role in the timing of the Israeli assault.

It strains credulity, however, that Israel would have carried out its actions without prior consultations not only with the Bush administration, but with the Obama camp as well. Rather than trying to push through its Gaza attack out of fear of a less sympathetic environment in Washington after Obama enters the White House, it is far more likely that the Israeli government was doing Obama a favor by carrying out a crime that he supported before he had to take public responsibility for it.

The reality is that the Democratic president-elect has sworn to maintain US support for Israel and has repeatedly defended Israel's "right to self-defense," including during its criminal war against Lebanon in 2006 and in regard to its repeated attacks on Gaza. He has likewise promised to maintain the US pledge of $30 billion in arms aid to Israel over the next decade.

Those he has chosen as his top aides—the congressman and former Israeli citizen Rahm Emanuel as chief of staff and his former presidential rival Hillary Clinton as secretary of state—are known for having criticized the Bush administration for being insufficiently supportive of Israeli aggression.

During the election campaign last summer, Obama made a trip to the southern Israeli town of Sderot, which had been a target of rocket attacks from Gaza, to provide an explicit justification for the kind of assault now being waged.

"If somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters sleep at night, I'm going to do everything in my power to stop that," Obama said during the visit. "And I would expect Israelis to do the same thing." He uttered not a word of sympathy for the Palestinians and gave no indication of what actions he expected from parents in Gaza who have watched their children torn to pieces by US-supplied bombs and missiles.

Meanwhile, Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi issued a statement providing an explicit endorsement of the Israeli bombing campaign. "When Israel is attacked," she said, "the United States must continue to stand strongly with its friend and democratic ally."

The response of Obama and the Democrats to the ongoing atrocity in Gaza represents a stark warning. Far from representing a last gasp of militarist aggression on the part of the lame duck Bush administration, the assault on Gaza is an indication of the shape of things to come.

The coming to office of the new Democratic administration will not spell an end to the crimes associated with US imperialism, but rather their continuation. Driven by the deepest economic crisis since the Great Depression, American militarism will play an ever more prominent role in Washington's desperate struggle against its rivals for the domination of dwindling markets and vital resources.

The struggle against war and the fight to hold accountable the authors of war crimes from Iraq to Gaza can be advanced only through the independent mobilization of the working class in a new mass political movement based upon a socialist program.

Israel inflicts mass suffering on Palestinian population
By Tom Eley
30 December 2008
Israel's bombardment of the Gaza strip, which after three days has killed at least 364 Palestinians and maimed scores, has sharply intensified a severe humanitarian crisis in the area.

In recent weeks Israel had taken new measures to choke Gaza off from its limited access to food, fuel, and other necessities. Amidst acute shortages caused by the blockade, the current Israeli onslaught imperils Gaza's entire population.

Evidence that Israeli's bombing campaign is no "surgical" operation, but a campaign of mass terror, continues to mount. Among the dead are at least 62 civilians, according to the United Nations.

Between Sunday night and Monday morning, two separate missile strikes killed eight children. In the Jebaliya refugee camp near Gaza City, an Israeli missile killed five children under the age of 17. In Rafah, in the South, a toddler and his two teenage brothers were killed in an attack ostensibly aimed at a Hamas commander. Over half of Gaza's population of 1.5 million are children under the age of 16.

On Monday, UNRWA, a United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, reported that an Israeli bomb killed eight students and injured twenty more at the Gaza Vocational Training Centre in Gaza City.

The rest of the dead were reportedly members of Hamas security forces or in training. They were utterly defenseless against the Israeli bombs and missiles. Many were killed in Israel's initial surprise attack inside their offices, homes, schools, and prisons.

Scores of buildings have been destroyed. Police stations and all other structures loosely connected with Hamas, which governs Gaza, have been pounded by heavy artillery and missiles, from the air, land, and sea. One Israeli strike targeted the women's wing and the faculty of the sciences building at the local Islamic University. It has also been reported that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has destroyed Gaza's only port, which was engaged primarily in the fishing industry.

According to IRIN (Integrated Regional Information Networks) of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, (IDF) bombs have destroyed Gaza's already limited infrastructure, "leaving residents without electricity and water." As a result of the invasion local aid officials have warned that "a dire humanitarian situation looms."

Eyewitness accounts report that the sounds of jets and drones can be heard everywhere, supplied to the IDF by the US, punctuated by explosions, sirens, and the screams of people. "From my desk in my university classroom we could see the smoke from Israel's bombing and hear the most terrifying sound of non-stop explosions," writes Eman Mohammed. "Girls around me screamed in horror ... Some of my classmates ran out of the university, fearing their lives, but were killed by Israeli missiles as they fled."

"One of the injured at the hospital was a little boy heading home from school," he continued. "Terrified and unable to see due to his injury, the boy was shaking and holding on to anything alive. However, I think holding his hand helped me more than it helped him; I didn't have the words to comfort him. When doctors were able to attend to the boy, I promised him he would be OK. The next thing I knew, his little weak body, deprived of life, was lying on the hospital's cold floor. Was his crime being born Palestinian?"

"More than three buildings have been brought to the ground in my area," Hamoudi, of Tal el Hawa, said on the Al Jazeera web site. "Two of my neighbours were killed on their way back from school—sixteen-year-old Yasmeen and her sister, 15-year-old Haneen. They were innocent girls."

Hatem Shurrab, an aid worker in Gaza, said "the situation is getting worse day by day. They're targeting everything. We don't know when or where they will strike next. They're hitting hospitals, medical centres, universities, homes, security centres, police.

As Israel masses tanks on the border with Gaza, fears of a ground invasion have grown. "In a city that is so densely-populated, a ground offensive would mean urban warfare, street-to-street fighting ... leaving many Palestinians in the crossfire," a reporter for Al Jazeera said. "Unlike other conflict zones where there is the possibility to flee the war zone, Gaza itself has become the war zone. There is nowhere for the population to go, they are in the middle of all these attacks."

Israel has prepared the humanitarian crisis now unfolding over months, during which time it limited the movement of basic necessities into the Gaza Strip. Then, beginning on November 4, Israel closed off the few border crossings into Gaza, in evident preparation for the current bombardment.

A Gaza Health Ministry spokesman, Hamam Nasman, told IRIN that due to the Israeli blockade, local hospitals were ill-prepared for the injuries resulting from the current onslaught. "Since August we have not received basic medications," he said, "The ICRC [International Committee of the Red Cross], which usually delivers 60 types of medication, has been unable to deliver a shipment for one month," he said. "One hundred and five drugs and 230 basic supplies, like alcohol, cotton, needles, and IVs are out of stock."

Mawia Hassanini, the head of emergency care at the health ministry, told IRIN that about half of Gaza's tiny fleet of ambulances is broken down for lack of parts due to the Israeli blockade—leaving about 100 ambulances to provide service for 1.7 million people suffering under the Israeli blitz. "Victims were being brought to hospitals in private cars, donkey carts, and some were being carried by others on foot," IRIN reports.

Through its blockade Israel openly flaunted the so-called "truce" between it and Hamas, which was based on the quid pro quo that Israel would ease the movement of goods into the territory, in exchange for a cessation of rocket fire by Palestinian militants. The purpose of the renewed blockade is now clear: it aimed to create a pretext for a full-scale military attack by goading the Palestinians into a response.

So severe was the blockade that even humanitarian organizations were forced to curtail their activities. UNRWA stopped food distributions in Gaza on December 18. Christopher Guinness, a spokesman for UNRWA, said that it had become "virtually impossible" to carry on humanitarian operations. Prior to the complete Israeli blockade, UNRWA supplied food to more than 750,000 people, while the World Food Programme provided for 200,000 more. In other words, almost two months before it began its massive bombing campaign, Israel cut off food supplies upon which a majority of the local population depended.

In the weeks leading up to the invasion, power and fuel shortages had caused widespread suffering. As a result, a large share of the population went without electricity for extended periods. Even energy to hospitals and to water and sewage treatment was limited, compounding the precarious health situation facing the population. (In its 2006 attack on Gaza, Israel targeted the area's sole power station. Now Gaza is dependent upon electricity imported from Israel for about 2/3 of its overall use.)

One of the few limited supply lines to Gaza—tunnels constructed under the border with Egypt—have been destroyed by Israeli strikes in the new attacks.

30 Dec 2008 @ 22:06 by ursula : Let's see if I understand you
Israel is attacked by rockets from Gaza daily, over 6,000 rockets in the past 1 1/2 years, waited until now to retaliate when Hamas breaks the truce (it's own leader, Abbas was furious they broke it), to defend its citizens, yet they send humanitarian aid every month to the Palestinians (see my log for the details), and Israel is the bad guy? Why didn't you complain when Gaza rockets were (and still are) bombing Israel causing casualties in Israel? You know there are Christians, Druze, Catholics, Muslims in Israel - not only Jews. Seems you have a double standard. You want Israel to be weak and defenseless and remain your scapegoat.

There aren't even bomb shelters all over Israel. Do you know that it takes only 15 seconds for a rocket fired from Gaza to reach Israel? 15 seconds is all people have to run for shelter, and I'm glad that point is shown in the video.

The Unit for Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories reports daily on the general humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. The data for the supplies transferred from Israel to the Gaza Strip via the Kerem Shalom, Karni and Sufa crossings are based on the reports of Palestinian merchants.

Humanitarian aid includes food, medicines and medical equipment, tools and materials for esssential humanitarian infrastructures, and a certain amount of diesel fuel. Cement, sand, gravel and steel are not considered to be humanitarian aid.

Via the conveyor at the Karni Crossing, grains such as wheat, barley, soy beans, corn, sesame seeds and animal feed are transferred. Between July and November 2008, cement and aggregate were also delivered on a regular basis.

Via the Kerem Shalom and/or Sufa Crossing, the following supplies are transferred by truck: food, including: milk powder and baby food, rice and legumes, fruits and vegetables, meat, chicken and fish, dairy products, flour and yeast, oil, salt and sugar; hygiene products; tools and raw materials for essential infrastructures; medicines and medical equipment; and a myriad of other items - ranging from school books to wheel chairs - needed by the civilian population.

Note: The Kerem Shalom Crossing, the main crossing point for humanitarian goods since June 2007, was closed after it was attacked by terrorists on 19 April 2008. It reopened on August 18, after extensive repairs were completed.

Via the Nahal Oz fuel depot, diesel fuel for transportation and for the local Gaza power station, petrol, and gas for cooking and heating are transferred from Israel to the Gaza Strip, according to an assessment of civilian needs mandated by the Israeli court (weekly supply, updated on 13 July 2008: petrol - 120,000 liters; diesel fuel for transportation - 1,200,000 liters; diesel fuel for power station - 2,900,000 liters; cooking and heating gas according to demand).

Note: Israel continues to supply electricity to the Gaza Strip; the Gazan power plant produces only 26% of the Strip's electricity .

Two-way traffic at the Erez Crossing of international organizations' staff, Gaza residents seeking medical treatment together with the people accompanying them ("medical evacuations"), and Palestinian civilians has been permitted for humanitarian reasons since 18 January 2007 and occurs daily.

The crossings are usually closed on Fridays and Saturdays (the Sabbath) and on Jewish holidays.

On June 19, an understanding to establish a "state of calm" in the Gaza Strip and the Israeli territory adjacent to it went into effect. Subsequently, the amount of merchandise reaching the Gaza Strip via the Israeli crossings increased by about 50%. The fuel terminal at the Nahal Oz crossing also returned to its previous capacity.

The opening of the crossings and the amounts of goods allowed to pass through them is conditional on Palestinian adherence to the calm agreement.

Since November 6, the commercial crossings have been mostly closed, due to the barrage of rockets and mortar bombs (approximately 230) that Hamas and other terrorist organizations have launched at Israel.

However, Erez crossing has continued to be open to international and medical traffic.

The complete list of aid can be read here:
[link]

All this aid is FROM ISRAEL during which time it has been attacked daily from Gaza - nobody can complain that they haven't done more than enough to help the Palestinian people (and when their own leaders won't).

Add to that, the Palestinians receive over $50 million a month from Arab nations and money from the U.S. and probably other countries. So where does the money go?

31 Dec 2008 @ 21:10 by spells : seems that I don't have to write much...
others are doing it on other newslogs for me. Here is a reprint from Vaxen's newslog...

Haaretz [link] reports on the Israel’s deceit in the latest outrage, in the aptly titled piece, “Disinformation, secrecy and lies: How the Gaza offensive came about”:

Long-term preparation, careful gathering of information, secret discussions, operational deception and the misleading of the public - all these stood behind the Israel Defense Forces “Cast Lead” operation against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, which began Saturday morning. he disinformation effort, according to defense officials, took Hamas by surprise and served to significantly increase the number of its casualties in the strike.

Sources in the defense establishment said Defense Minister Ehud Barak instructed the Israel Defense Forces to prepare for the operation over six months ago, even as Israel was beginning to negotiate a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. According to the sources, Barak maintained that although the lull would allow Hamas to prepare for a showdown with Israel, the Israeli army needed time to prepare, as well..

The story also notes that the recent racheting of tension was sparked, deliberately, by a heavy-handed Israeli incursion into Gaza:

The plan of action that was implemented in Operation Cast Lead remained only a blueprint until a month ago, when tensions soared after the IDF carried out an incursion into Gaza during the ceasefire to take out a tunnel which the army said was intended to facilitate an attack by Palestinian militants on IDF troops….

While Barak was working out the final details with the officers responsible for the operation, Livni went to Cairo to inform Egypt’s president, Hosni Mubarak, that Israel had decided to strike at Hamas. In parallel, Israel continued to send out disinformation in announcing it would open the crossings to the Gaza Strip and that Olmert would decide whether to launch the strike following three more deliberations on Sunday - one day after the actual order to launch the operation was issued.

“Hamas evacuated all its headquarter personnel after the cabinet meeting on Wednesday,” one defense official said, “but the organization sent its people back in when they heard that everything was put on hold until Sunday.”

Not only did this deception lead Hamas to send its officials back to work — it also meant that there was no general warning to the masses of civilians packed like sardines into Gaza’s hellish confines. It meant that civilian casualties would be maximized — especially when the initial assault was launched in the middle of the day, with thousands of schoolchildren out at their lesson.

As Glenn Greenwald [link] notes, Israel’s massive bombing of civilian areas — even if couched in terms of “retaliation” for scattershot strikes on Israeli territory by a political faction — constitutes “a clear violation of the Geneva Conventions.” Greenwald also adroitly turns Barack Obama’s campaign kowtowing to Israeli militarism on its head:

[Obama on the campaign trail]: “The first job of any nation state is to protect its citizens. And so I can assure you that if — I don’t even care if I was a politician — if somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters sleep at night, I’m going to do everything in my power to stop that. And I would expect Israelis to do the same thing.”

Can’t the exact same mentality be deployed to justify everything Hamas has done and is doing, to wit: “if a foreign power were brutally occupying my country for four decades — or blockading my country and denying my children medical needs and nutrition and the ability even to exit — I’m going to do everything in my power to stop that. And I would expect Palestinians to do the same thing”? But the last thing that our political class ever extends is reciprocal, two-sided analysis to this dispute.

What is the ultimate context of this carnage? The fact that the Arab inhabitants of Palestine had their land taken away from them by force — not in some ancient, historic era, but within the lifetime of many thousands of Palestinians still living. I hold no brief for Hamas; like the Angry Arab [link] , whose coverage of the conflict has been relentless and penetrating, I don’t care for any party based on religious extremism. But as Greenwald notes, every action taken by Hamas and other Palestinian resistance groups could be characterized as “retaliation” for the theft of their land, not to mention the war crime of collective punishment and genocidal blockades visited upon the Occupied Territories for years.

But there is not a single peep of this perspective from America’s ruling class and its media courtiers. Of course, it is a bit much to expect a nation which itself was built on land theft, repression and slaughter to see anything wrong or “disproportionate” in Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians. What else are you supposed to do when those dang heathen savages come around with their war parties and tomahawks, trying to get back the land that God Almighty has granted to good white folk?

Meanwhile, here’s what Israel’s “Manifest Destiny” looks like on the ground in Gaza. From the Maan News Agency [link] (via the Angry Arab, as was the photo above):

Death shrouds the hallways of Gaza City’s Ash-Shifa medical compound Saturday, its smell creeping in from all corners. mputated bodies are strewn throughout hallways because morgues in the city can no longer accommodate the dead. In one corner a man stands with his seven year old son in a cardboard box because the hospital ran out of sheets to cover the dead with. This is how he will carry him home and bury him. Another man stands dazed, in shock after watching his son Mohammed killed during his graduation ceremony at the de facto police headquarters. The father of one of Mohammed’s classmates stood next to his son as he was decapitated. The man is still screaming.

In the packed hospital waiting room a mother sits silently staring into the distance; her son was pronounced dead shortly after she brought him in… Forty-year-old mother Nawal Al-Lad’a did not find the bodies of her two sons in the medical compound, so she left to look amid the rubble.

Husam Farajallah, a university student, was at the hospital collecting the body of his relative. He called what happened in Gaza a “black day” in the lives of all Palestinians, and wondered how the world could watch and do nothing.

Medics in Gaza confirmed that the majority of those killed in the day’s attacks were civilians, including men, women and children. Most were cut to pieces, making the job of doctors and medics difficult, and the task of giving bodies back to families painful and gruesome. The medics working in the field continue to dig up bodies from the densely populated urban areas of Gaza City.

The scenes remind many Palestinians of the images that came out of the Sabra and Shatila massacres from Beirut in 1982, when thousands of Palestinians were killed by the Lebanese Phalangist militia.

As the death toll climbs and no word on a halt to the attacks has come from Israel, Gazans fear for their lives and loved ones.

"Jewish villages were built in the place of Arab villages. You do not even know the names of these Arab villages, and I do not blame you because geography books no longer exist. Not only do the books not exist, the Arab villages are not there either. Nahlal arose in the place of Mahlul; Kibbutz Gvat in the place of Jibta; Kibbutz Sarid in the place of Huneifis; and Kefar Yehushua in the place of Tal al-Shuman. There is not a single place built in this country that did not have a former Arab population."

'If 'you' think this is Love (+ rest of the Zionist-propaganda Politically-Correct-Jadijada), then please, don't ever again tell us how extremely LOVING 'you' are and much 'you' CARE for Humanity (which --one would think-- would include ALL the REAL SEMITES; that would be "The Arabs" (ONLY the Semites living on Arabian Peninsula are indeed considred to be "Arabs", just like Natives to Italian Peninsula are considered to be Italians,) among other Original Middle East Peoples, the Original Peoples of the Philistine Land, that is burning today with GENOCIDE (no stopping genocide there!) 'cause 'you' are only embarrasing ourself!...

2 Jan 2009 @ 20:54 by ursula : Yeah, I said it
And A-d, you are no different in being one-sided, and posting such disinformation and prejudice against Jews and Israel it's incredible - and you're screaming at me? What for? So take chill pill and YOU go check the facts because you are very misinformed and you are coming across like a fool. It's not my problem, though. You can read, why not read my log or is it too hard to read something that is honest about what Hamas is doing?

2 Jan 2009 @ 21:07 by ursula : You do know
that you are defending Hamas, a terrorist organization that took power in Gaza against the will of the Palestinian people and kicked out their real government? Hamas that is funded by Iran to destroy Israel - 6,000 rockets - daily attacks upon Israel. Where is YOUR heart, A-d? Don't you have one for Arab Christians, Israeli Christians, Jews, Muslims, Druze? Do you know that on the West Bank any support for Hamas is not allowed? They kept them out of there because they're bad news and the Palestinian people DO NOT WANT THEM. But YOU, and Spells and some others defend Hamas. And seeing what you have posted tells me you have no idea what's going on or you will cling to anything to destroy Israel.

2 Jan 2009 @ 21:11 by a-d : You go and get
some Life energy from somewhere else!.... THE TRUTHH is not asecret and like I said: YOU ARE DENYING the "ACCOMPLISHMENTS of these WAR criminals!...THEY WERE PROUD of Their accomplishments of the/ir part of the destruction to which they have woved their Reason for Being ! So.... there's nothing more to say, except that if there ever was ANY question of your Reasons and love for Truth and Honesty; you now have shown the WORLD what you (and the few other individuals on Earth of your ilk) REALLY are all about! Sure. That's your prerogative, but so it is for the rest of Humanity, who dare to face the EVIL truth; our prerogative to see and talk about the shit you/r ilk has created for ALL of Humanity!!... The Gene is out of the Bottle... For many years after a lot of Zionist ATROCITIES, it wasn't, but it is now...and has been for quite some time...enough long for even you to not remain so misinformed -or denying all your Heroes' accomplishments -whichever it is, I don't care. End of discussion.

2 Jan 2009 @ 21:13 by ursula : Would you please watch this?
Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of a Hamas leader, says the group tortures its own members. 'Escape From Hamas' Airs Sat 10 p.m., Sun 9 p.m. ET.
As Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and other world leaders try to broker a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas, one former member of the militant Islamic organization said there will never be lasting peace between the two groups.

"There is no chance. Is there any chance for fire to co-exist with the water?" said Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of one of the group's founding members.

Yousef added: "It's not about Israel, it's not about Hamas: it's about both ideologies."

Yousef, son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, one of the most influential leaders of the militant group, said the organization betrays the Palestinian cause and tortures its own members.

Hamas, formed in the late 1980's as an outgrowth of the Palestinian branch of the radical Muslim Brotherhood, is considered a terror organization by the U.S. government. Hamas seized power in the Gaza strip in 2007 in a violent coup against the more moderate Palestinian Authority led by Mahmoud Abbas.

Renouncing Islam Son of Hamas Leader Speaks Out Yousef said he was indoctrinated at an early age to use violence to challenge Israeli control in the region. As a teenager he moved up within the organization and became the leader of the radical Islamic Youth Movement that fought Israeli tanks and troops in the streets, celebrated suicide bombings and recruited young men to the cause.

Yousef, 30, said he realized the true nature of Hamas and radical Islam during a stint in an Israeli prison. He renounced his Muslim faith, left his family behind in Ramallah and converted to Christianity.

"Islam is not the word of God," said Yousef. "If you want to be offended it's your problem. But you know something? Go study. Think for a second that I might be right. So wake up, look at your path, see where you're going. Are you really going to heaven with 72 virgins after you kill yourself and kill another 20 people?"

Yousef has sought asylum in the United States and now attends an evangelical Christian church on Barabbas Road in San Diego, Calif.

"The Hamas leadership, including my father, they're responsible; they're responsible for all the violence that happened from the organization. I know they describe it as reaction to Israeli aggression, but still, they are part of it and they had to make decisions in those operations against Israel (for) which there was the killing of many civilians."

Yousef talks more about his extraordinary story of faith, courage, violence and betrayal in a FOX News documentary, "Escape From Hamas," hosted by Bill Hemmer.

Escape from Hamas airs Sat at 10p, with repeats at 1am and 4a, EST, and Sun at 9pm, with repeats at 12 midnight, 2am, EST.

2 Jan 2009 @ 23:50 by ursula : Fiction vs. fact
Fiction vs. Fact: Israel and the Situation in Gaza
6 Common Fabrications

Since Israel began “Operation Cast Lead” in Gaza Dec. 27 in an attempt to stop Iran-backed Hamas from its years-long campaign to kill and injure civilians in Israel, some have used the opportunity to spread misinformation about Israel’s actions, intentions and the overall situation in Gaza. Following are examples of fabrications – refuted by factual accounts provided by international aid organizations, Arab leaders, and Palestinian journalists.
"While there is real suffering in Gaza, it is important to sort fact from fiction and understand that Hamas is responsible for this sad situation," said Jennifer Laszlo Mizrahi, founder and president of The Israel Project. "The important thing now is to defeat terror so that there can be a two-state solution and lasting peace. Both sides need a better future."
1) Fiction: There’s no food in Gaza and people are starving.
News reports, including one produced by TV station France 2 on Dec. 29, showed a Gaza resident in a food store saying:
“Apparently, there is nothing, as you can see. There are no natural products for the kids. There is no milk. There is nothing here.”[1]
Fact: Warehouses in Gaza are filled to capacity, according to international aid groups. In the same France 2 TV clip referenced above, upon closer inspection, shelves filled with food can be seen in the reflection of a refrigerated door in the store. To see clip: click on http://jt.france2.fr/20h/; click on “Lundi 29” – below the small screen; to the right of the new screen, click “Vie dans la bande de Gaza” The World Food Program informed Israel that it would cease shipment of food to Gaza because the warehouses there are at full capacity, with enough food to last two weeks.[2]
During a one-day period alone – Dec. 31– Israel facilitated the transport of 29 truckloads of food, including 15 truckloads of flour, into Gaza.[3] And even as Hamas was firing rockets and mortars during Israel during the ceasefire, Israel facilitated the delivery of 2,500 tons (delivered on 93 trucks) of humanitarian aid, medical supplies and medication through the Kerem Shalom cargo terminal.[4]
Since the beginning of the operation, about 6,500 tons of aid have been transferred into Gaza at the request of the international organizations, the Palestinian Authority and various governments. Preparations are underway to facilitate further shipments.[5]

2) Fiction: Gaza has no medical and other aid supplies to help the injured.
Fact: During the first 5 days alone of Operation Cast Lead, Israel has facilitated the delivery of 6,500 tons of aid – 179 truckoads -- into Gaza at the request of international organizations, the Palestinian Authority and various governments. The deliveries include basic food commodities, medication, medical supplies and blood units. Another 106 truckloads of humanitarian aid are expected to arrive in Gaza on Jan. 31.[6] [7] The crossings to Gaza are open for the transfer of humanitarian aid from all international organizations, in full cooperation with the Israeli authorities and without restriction.[8] In a one-day period – Dec. 31 – Israel enabled the transport of 9 truckloads of medicine and medical supplies, along with 10 ambulances, into Gaza.[9]
3) Fiction: Israel is refusing to allow injured Gazans into Israeli and Egyptian hospitals for treatment.
Fact: Israel has allowed a number of Palestinians into Israel for medical treatment they couldn’t receive in Gaza. On Dec. 31, for example, 12 Palestinians accessed Israel for medical treatment in Israeli hospitals. Two of those evacuated were injured children; the remaining were chronically sick people, and their escorts, who were allowed into Israel for treatment not available in Gaza.[10]

Further, Hamas – in an effort to exploit the suffering of innocent civilians - has refused to allow injured Palestinians to leave Gaza to go to Egypt for treatment.[11] Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abu al-Gheit said earlier this week that Hamas was not allowing wounded Palestinians to cross the border into Egypt for treatment: “We are waiting for the wounded Palestinians to cross. They are not being allowed to cross.” Asked who was to blame, he referred to Gaza by saying, “Ask the party in control on the ground in Gaza.”[12]
4) Fiction: Israel is purposely targeting civilians.
Fact: While Israel goes out of its way to minimize civilian casualties, Hamas actually places civilians in harm’s way and uses them as shields. Because Hamas is known to use civilian residences to hide their weapons, on Dec. 27, the Israeli military – before launching an attack on such storehouses - called thousands of civilians in Gaza on their cell phones and left Arabic-language messages urging them to leave homes being used for weapons storage.[13]
On Dec. 30, a reformist Iranian newspaper published a statement by a student organization that criticized Hamas for risking civilian lives, including children, by hiding its forces in nurseries and hospitals. The Iranian Culture Ministry shut down the newspaper after it printed the statements.[14]
Israel has publicly stated time and again that it regrets the loss of any civilian life and considers each one a tragedy. However, both Iran-backed Hamas and Iran-backed Hezbollah have a history of faking deaths and funerals. For example, in Spring 2002, Palestinians were filmed as they attempted to stage a fake funeral as part of a gross exaggeration of the number of people killed in Jenin. The film shows Palestinians wrapping, then carrying a ‘corpse’ on a funeral pier; the ‘corpse’ falls off several times and gets back on – including in front of a large and surprised crowd.[15] Click here for video of faked funeral. Although some reports say a quarter of the deaths during “Operation Cast Lead” have been civilians, Palestinian terrorists’ history of deceptions and false claims require reporters to work to verify such information.
During Israel’s defensive war against Hezbollah two years ago, the phenomenon was so common that it became known as “Hezbollywood.”[16] One of the best-known instances was when a man purporting to be a rescue worker at the site of a bombed village appeared in various photos in the international media, repeatedly displaying the same child’s dead body at different times – and in different poses – throughout the day. The man, identified as Salam Daher, wore a green helmet in all of the photos, earning himself the nickname “green helmet guy.” Daher was also found to have directed a camera shooting the scene.[17]
For experts available to comment on these and similar deceptions, please contact:
Richard Landes: e-mail: rlandes@bu.edu
Philippe Karsenty: e-mail: pk@M-R.fr
5) Fiction: Israel has cut off electricity to Gaza.
Fact: In the past, Hamas officials have committed deceptions such as pulling dark curtains in mid-day while holding a meeting to make it look as though they were being forced to work by candlelight – a sham exposed by journalists who showed that it was actually daylight outside at the time.[18] The ruse was carried out with the complicity of some Arab satellite TV stations. More recent such deceptions have come to light as recently as November 2008, when Palestinian Authority officials said Hamas staged new blackouts to try to get sympathy from the international community and provoke civilian violence against the Palestinian Authority and Israel.[19] Further, terrorists in Gaza have fired rockets at – and hit - the power station in the Israeli city of Ashkelon that provides Gaza the majority of its electricity.[20] The terrorists also have fired on Israeli workers at a depot that provides fuel to Gaza and a suicide bomber destroyed lines providing electricity from Israel into Gaza. [21]
"There's no shortage of fuel in the Gaza Strip and the Electricity Company is continuing to function normally," a PA official said in November. "Our people in the Gaza Strip have told us that the blackouts are all staged as part of the Hamas propaganda…There's enough fuel in the Gaza Strip,” he said. "Even when Israel reduces the fuel supplies, Hamas continues to smuggle tens of thousands of liters through the underground tunnels."[22]
6) Fiction: Palestinian journalists are unbiased and show what’s ‘really’ happening in Gaza.
Fact: Some Palestinian journalists are manipulating and exploiting unintended victims of the Israeli strikes. Said one Palestinian journalist, members of the Palestinian media are ‘directing’ civilians to cry and telling them what to say in interviews: "A mother of one of the martyrs stood by the door of the intensive care unit while crying... relatives and those around her were telling her what she should say to the television cameras: 'Say your son [before he died] prayed and went out.' Another tells her: 'Curse the Arab leaders'... The journalists [in the hospitals] are going overboard in their insensitivity and taking advantage of the [difficult] moments, with the explanation that they are showing this to the world. One cameraman told a mourning mother: 'Hit your face, cry, do some action.'"[23]

3 Jan 2009 @ 01:32 by a-d : Yes,
I will do so. Just give me a day or so... Trouble with my PC makes Everything totally random ( hope it's the right word!... ) and on top of that, I have still to some extent to tend to sick puppy.... I have looked up Hamas quite a bit. There's no Q in my mind, that stupid acts and behaviour is performed on both sides which would include HAMAS just as much!...

But I also know, that when INjustice is the foundation for the aggressors pre-emptive attacks ,then all discussions to straighten such in-justice situation out just ends up in a "pissing match"... which of course is the losing party's attempt to regain SOME BALANCE into the "Whole Situation"!...This is true even in private relations!...
( most every one of us are unfortunate enough to have one or two real bullies in the Family -or in the Work place... ) WHY anybody would choose to remain a bully and ( Narcisstic Personality Disorder)and always offer nothing but UN-balanced situation to BEGIN WITH, is beyond me, as it is to all people with even the slightest bit healthier Psyche!... but, hey... that's the struggle we, who love Life more than we love money and power over others, must now win -or lose for "good".
NOTHING, we humans do start as "Politics"!.... Politics is ALWAYS the EFFECT of the Psyche, be it one person's or a group's!.... and EVERY single group made up of NPD personalities behave the same way... no matter what the OUTER FORM for the INNER AGENDA is!....this is very noticeable in all the Fundamentalist Organized religious groups! NONE of them is a bunch of healthy people! NONE! hhehehe... that's just "how" it is!...

I already linked up to your link. Now I need the time to listen. That will be after I fed all the "kids" etc. : )

3 Jan 2009 @ 23:18 by vaxen : Fiction vs Fact
Here is some more Fact to counter rusyns' fictiopn:

In Beit Lahiya our friend showed us leaflets the Israelis had dropped from planes. In plain black script on white A5, it began: "The IDF [Israel Defense Forces] are working against perpetrators of terrorist operations ... we are trying our best not to attack or cause any injuries to civilians ..." Our friend took us to his roof and pointed out all the possible targets for Israeli strikes. Here, a mosque founded by Hamas, here the local police station, here a place once frequented by Hamas' military wing. Our night was peppered with the sound of tanks creaking along the border, Apache strikes on Jabaliya, Israeli naval ships bombing the port and the F16 strike on the Islamic University. I got a call from a medical volunteer friend in Jabaliya: "They just bombed the Aiman Ajin mosque - we have dug out five little girls. Five girls have just been martyred."

4 Jan 2009 @ 03:20 by ursula : A-d
Did you watch the special report on Fox?

4 Jan 2009 @ 04:53 by a-d : Yes,I did!
Thank you for pointing to it! If the guy was Jewish, and did this this conversion especially to Christianity, he would be blamed for abandoning his tribe and called SELF HATER!
He just knew (like Tony Robbins calls it "unconsciously competent" -a little too fancy for me; I would just just say: "from his Heart, or spontaneously" , ) that the so called "Christos" is the Prototype of our OWN ME, not some old concoction from the past and jadijadajaaa; you know all that stuff, that all Organised religions are full of -in order to enslave the next generation and the next, and the next!...)

Hamas is not made up of timid Sunday School boys, that's for sure... but if the pretty small group of extremely corrupt souls among the Jewish People, Humanity "loving" in their "Own Special way" but maybe with a little bit more tolerance for EQUALITY and not so floating above all the rest of Mankind, with so much hate and dispice etc etc (all documented and can be read & re-read by ALL Humanity, well, I'm sure you know all the crapp they use to defend their broken Spirits, which in one way is understandable, certainly to the point of as "understandable" as any fundamentalism.... --which in my book isn't all that much... sigh) then Hamas wouldn't have to exist at all! Be Kind to ALL. Do Unto Others as.... HOW hard can that be?
To use some fabricated "religious documents" "Gods Promise" etc. doesn't cut it!

It would be more honest and straight forward to say: look we are a bunch of Crooks and Thieves, emotionally very sick and we will take --as in steal-- your Land whether you agree or not! Not that I know if the Crooks from Europe did so when they came and raped the Natives here on this continent, for instance, or of the Spaniards when raping and pillaging the lands they took ... on & on it goes... MOST nations in and of the Old World are guilty of this, at some point in History, I know, but... the truth is; nobody else came up with the idea "by God Sanctioned".... Then again, who am I to say that THAT is thee big Moral Divide, so to speak?! ...and the question today as the world turns today is: WHEN & where is rape and pillage of "other creatures" = People of not one's own tribe, gonna stop????
ALL people deserve to have a Home as their Sanctuary from evil and in Peace and Harmony with ALL around them. ALL Mankind will have to realize this --or go under. ALL.
To see ALL humans as one's brethren and equal to oneself is the first step in recovering from NPD/Psychopathy ("Evil" > Double Standard )for any infected person.

What goes on in Gaza has no justifications what so ever.EXPLANATIONS , maybe, but they are NOT the same; 'explanation' and justification are NOT the "same thing"!...

Now, this is written in all haste, so I might see some discrepansies at some later time, that I am not aware of right now... Tired, both mentally and physically...I cannot handle sick Animals emotionally all... VERY draining on me... gets the Good Ol'Anxiety flying right through the roof, as the saying goes...

4 Jan 2009 @ 07:46 by ursula : A-d
I'm glad you watched it - he nailed Islam for being a bipolar religion and a religion that's like a drug, and for showing how Hamas manipulates and tortures its own people. (He was not tortured by Israelis.) His goal is good to speak out and help people wake up and see themselves. He went from believing what he was taught as a kid, that Hamas was the answer for his people, Head of the islamic Youth Movement, to becoming a Christian and seeing Islam and Hamas as crazy. He said if Hamas tortures or kills their own people no one is allowed to say anything. Hamas leaders fear that everyone or anyone could be collaborating with Israel. Everybody was guilty until proven innocent. They would give points to people and if they had enough points against them, given by Hamas, then Hamas would take them and torture them. Not allow them to sleep for weeks, keep waking them up, put needles under their fingernails, put burning plastic on their skin. He said that the Islamic leaders would manipulate religion for political goals of the moment, and that there are thousands of inconsistencies in Islam. Before becoming a full open Christian, he had to resolve his feelings about Islam. He studied the bible and the Koran, by himself in secret by himself for a long time, thinking FOR HIMSELF about these religions.

A-d, it's not cut and dry - there are many kinds of Arabs - Christian, Muslim, Druze, Sufis, there are Sunnis and Shiites. Only one of them is at war with Israel - the extremist terrorists of Al Qaeda, Hamas, and Hizbollah...to name a few. The Christians have been tortured by Hamas. Anyone who doesn't agree with Hamas gets tortured - as you saw on that interview. Everything he said was accurate. His father started Hamas and he grew up in it - who better to know what it's all about, eh?

But, people don't really understand that it is the Palestinian leadership that has been making the Palestinian people suffer, AND they will not take responsibility for what they do. If they would, this entire war and the past forty years of crap would not be happening like this. You know Arafat squandered billions of dollars from his own people. His widow got most of it, too. Hamas is no different. And I don't know how to get this across to you - other than suggest you read some sources not suggested by some other people here so you get the real history - but Israel did not steal anyone's land. This is a huge lie by the Palestinians to justify their murdering of Jews and Israelis and goal to take Israel for themselves. This is in their PLO Charter, and it is all they want, and since they're not getting it, they're pissed off. They're using any excuse - and they've managed to convince ignorant people that their stories are true. Hamas is very stubborn and very arrogant. IF they had NOT bombed Israel daily, had not sent over suicide murderers, there would be peace! It is because THEY refuse to give up on their fantasy. They were indoctrinated as babies to believe their land was stolen, so they believe it. They believe Israel is the enemy, when it is their own leaders. It's time they take responsibility and get their their country together.

Israel, in many peace offerings, gave it's OWN land to the so-called Palestinians, and what have they done with it? Destroyed it. Israelis gave up their homes, schools, everything for peace, over and over again, A-d. And it brought them only more attacks. Can you honestly say you don't see this? You didn't see all the demonstrations and the people being torn away from their homes to give to these terrorists, who then destroyed all that Israel built? And then you blame Israel for being the evil ones? It's time the Arabs in Gaza start giving up and doing something for peace and keeping their word - which they've NEVER done. As I said many times, all it takes is making the decision to live in peace. Until they do, they will keep attacking Israel and Israel will defend itself and strike back. And what Gold Meier said was "We will have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us." This is her famous quote and it still stands true today. Lucky for that one young man who realized the truth of his people and left for a better life in America where he can be free to be a Christian or anything he wants to be.

4 Jan 2009 @ 07:55 by vaxen : The real issue...
But Jennifer Loewenstein nails down the real issue when she writes that Israel has no intention of allowing a viable, sovereign Palestinian state on its borders;

"Let us get one thing perfectly straight. If the wholesale mutilation and degradation of the Gaza Strip is going to continue; - if the cowardly, obsequious and supine Arab States are going to stand by watching their brethren get slaughtered by the hour while the world’s bullying Superpower eyes them threateningly from Washington lest they say something a little to their disliking; then let us at least tell the truth why this hell on earth is taking place.

"The state terror unleashed from the skies and on the ground against the Gaza Strip as we speak has nothing to do with Hamas. It has nothing to do with "Terror". It has nothing to do with the long-term "security" of the Jewish State or with Hizbullah or Syria or Iran except insofar as it is aggravating the conditions that have led up to this crisis today. It has nothing to do with some conjured-up "war" – a cynical and overused euphemism that amounts to little more the wholesale enslavement of any nation that dares claim its sovereign rights; that dares assert that its resources are its own; that doesn't want one of the Empire's obscene military bases sitting on its cherished land." 4 Jan 2009 @ 07:59 by ursula : What a bunch of baloney
and you know it. 6,000 rockets sent from Gaza into Israel is a darn good reason to put an end to it.

4 Jan 2009 @ 08:16 by vaxen : The number...
of rockets grows daily with the lies spread around like butter by the Israeli propaganda machine. Goebbels must be dancing in his grave.

In 2006 the US insisted that the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank hold free elections. When free elections were held, Hamas won. This was unacceptable to the Americans and Israelis. In the West Bank, the Americans and Israelis imposed a puppet government, but Hamas held on in Gaza. After unheeded warnings to the Gazans to rid themselves of Hamas and accept a puppet government, Israel has decided to destroy the freely elected government with violence.

4 Jan 2009 @ 08:34 by ursula : Mothers
I think growing up without a close and loving mother is very damaging - if you look at Hitler, Saddam Hussein and Arafat, they are just a few examples of madmen who were so angry and insecure that they turned it into violence against others thinking that would make them happy and whole. It didn't, of course, because they didn't love themselves. It didn't do any good for anybody and we're still dealing with the consequences of their craziness.

4 Jan 2009 @ 09:05 by ursula : Gaza
Gaza City is not being bombed by Israelis. Israel is going after Hamas. And I watch some Arabs on television lying through their teeth about what's going on - saying they're stateless (they have their state!), and this is genocide. But they are not even mentioning the daily rocket attacks upon Israel from them. I guess they don't see what they're doing as genocide! And their PLO Charter isn't genocide, either, right? Talk about being in denial! See, this is what I'm talking about when it comes to taking responsibility.

Israel Has No Intention of Granting a Palestinian State
If Hamas Did Not Exist

By JENNIFER LOEWENSTEIN

January 02, 2009 "Counterpunch [link] " - -Let us get one thing perfectly straight. If the wholesale mutilation and degradation of the Gaza Strip is going to continue; if Israel's will is at one with that of the United States; if the European Union, Russia, the United Nations and all the international legal agencies and organizations spread across the globe are going to continue to sit by like hollow mannequins doing nothing but making repeated "calls" for a "ceasefire" on "both sides"; if the cowardly, obsequious and supine Arab States are going to stand by watching their brethren get slaughtered by the hour while the world's bullying Superpower eyes them threateningly from Washington lest they say something a little to their disliking; then let us at least tell the truth why this hell on earth is taking place.

The state terror unleashed from the skies and on the ground against the Gaza Strip as we speak has nothing to do with Hamas. It has nothing to do with "Terror". It has nothing to do with the long-term "security" of the Jewish State or with Hizbullah or Syria or Iran except insofar as it is aggravating the conditions that have led up to this crisis today. It has nothing to do with some conjured-up "war" – a cynical and overused euphemism that amounts to little more the wholesale enslavement of any nation that dares claim its sovereign rights; that dares assert that its resources are its own; that doesn't want one of the Empire's obscene military bases sitting on its cherished land.

4 Jan 2009 @ 17:33 by vaxen : Cease fire?
Gaza's Holocaust
By Uri Avnery
1-4-9

Just after midnight, Aljazeera's Arabic channel was reporting on events in Gaza. Suddenly the camera was pointing upwards towards the dark sky. The screen was pitch black. Nothing could be seen, but there was a sound to be heard: the noise of airplanes, a frightening, a terrifying droning.

It was impossible not to think about the tens of thousands of Gazan children who were hearing that sound at that moment, cringing with fright, paralyzed by fear, waiting for the bombs to fall.

"Israel must defend itself against the rockets that are terrorizing our Southern towns," the Israeli spokesmen explained. "Palestinians must respond to the killing of their fighters inside the Gaza Strip," the Hamas spokesmen declared.

As a matter of fact, the cease-fire did not collapse, because there was no real cease-fire to start with. The main requirement for any cease-fire in the Gaza Strip must be the opening of the border crossings. There can be no life in Gaza without a steady flow of supplies. But the crossings were not opened, except for a few hours now and again. The blockade on land, on sea and in the air against a million and a half human beings is an act of war, as much as any dropping of bombs or launching of rockets. It paralyzes life in the Gaza Strip: eliminating most sources of employment, pushing hundreds of thousands to the brink of starvation, stopping most hospitals from functioning, disrupting the supply of electricity and water.

Those who decided to close the crossings under whatever pretext knew that there is no real cease-fire under these conditions.

4 Jan 2009 @ 17:56 by a-d : That has been my point
from Day One --vis a vis ANY Wounded Spirits/Creative Life Force of any Living Thing: They/We suffer in their/our craziness and they /we force their/our ills on their/our children ad infinitum. and THIS is what MUST STOP: to continue to infect the next generation, and having the guts instead to say : "Humanity has suffered enough!!!"

You are so very right, Rusyn, about these "Crazy men"..."because of what was done to them in their earliest days in life".( that is true for ALL humanity -- to what ever extent! (Ashley Montague talks a lot about this very subject).
Talking about them; did you see the Documentary on Churchills life? It was one of thee most Heart breaking things I ever seen! (just thinking about it, brings me to tears!)There was NO CHANCE in hell -as the saying goes, for Little Winston to grow up HEALTHY as a Cosmic Human.

The Past is what it is. Humanity has cuddled this Evil for EONS...and under a thousand different EXCUSES and JUSTIFICATIONS, calling them This'n'That -as if one was fancier and bigger and better than the other!.... It doesn't work any longer.
WHO and WHAT collective Who (a group of truly Life Loving Individuals) will have the guts and strength and Inner Insight to say "Enough is enough: Let's start from Square One: the ONE that we ALL get as a Birthday Gift from and by Life at Birth: LET'S USE THOSE SKILLS to ENHANCE our own life,... NOT by destroying our Neighbour's -- for THAT kind of thinking is solidly grounded in BELIEF of POVERTY, POVERTY CONSCIOUSNESS, even if we owned ALL the money in the world!... but by co-operating, sharing with each other because we care... quite frankly; there is NO JOY greater than the one we feel when we did something genuinely good, not because we had to or had a secret agenda, that were met by showing off our "goodness", but simply 'cauz we happened to be in position to give the help when it was needed. Let's do this each and everyone of us!"

To dig the shit in and of the Past,...yeahhh...we could do that, but it does take a loooong time to snort all that old s--- out... and I don't know if the Good that came out of such Venture couldn't be reached faster and more lovingly in just by EVERY Party dropping the s--- since we are SOMEHOW ALL guilty of Humanity's situation being what it is today, some "more" some "less" but nonetheless!

If ONE digs and throws around S--- from the Past as justification to not stop , but to go on, then we are standing still --and we are already to our nostrils already in S----...soooo....

SOME SORT of Divine Intervention is desperately needed/wanted!

4 Jan 2009 @ 21:39 by spells : We are Fragments of God and therefore,
We are the Divine Intervention! Until there is a rise in consciousness, a respect for nature and natural/spiritual laws and a complete change in values and lifestyles, NOTHING will change. The intent is evil, wrong and entropic and so wars such as this will go on....it is karma!!

Thanks for all your comments....

4 Jan 2009 @ 21:41 by ursula : Yup
I was going to write the same thing, Sandi. If people function from that divine self, we would have no war, and we could still have differences of opinions.

4 Jan 2009 @ 22:00 by a-d : I think ALL
Fundamentalist versions of ALL Organized religions are just a bunch of shit! I have met so many wonderful loving caring people born into all these religions. NONE of these friends were wonderful because of the religious affiliation of the group they were born into, but because they had broken away from it; EACH and EVERY ONE of them, and they had chosen to be nothing and nobody but themselves! PEOPLE are naturally wonderful when are (allowed to be) "Nothing & Nobody, but themselves --or like you put it Sandi: Fragments of God, or like jmarcs calls it: StarDust (" all is Stardust" (words to that effect) --that would include us humans as well, eh? : ) ))

5 Jan 2009 @ 20:56 by spells : Truth.....
Of course, you are right on about organized religions of any kind!

No matter what humans do with their time here on earth doesn't change the fact that they are consciousness first and "minds", "egos" or "personalities" last. The Truth is the Truth.

Ignore it and this is what you end up with...a whole species that is entropic and on the way to mass death. A species that has lost sight of what life means and has turned ultimately EVIL.

Not much time now, hopefully more tomorrow.....

8 Jan 2009 @ 18:37 by rishi : One sided??
To Medicinedreamer,

On Dec. 31st You asked, 31 Dec 2008 @ 22:22 by medicinedreamer : Arab leaders blame Hamas
Sandi, why are you so one-sided in this?

Beyond the most obvious facts and history of Israel’s creation, a little Bible study will answer your question very succinctly. Let us keep in mind that Israel is a religious State, created solely upon the basis of the Old Testament of the Bible…

We begin this study with some comments supposedly made to the people of Israel by Jehovah, “the Lord of Hosts”…

From Deuteronomy, fifth book of Moses
Chapter seven is entitled…“A Chosen People”

7:1 When the Lord thy God shall bring thee into the land wither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;

7:2 And when the Lord thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them;

7:3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.

7:4 For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods, so will the anger of the lord be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.

7:5 But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their alters, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.

7:6 FOR THOU ART A HOLY PEOPLE UNTO THE LORD THY GOD; THE LORD THY GOD HAS CHOSEN THEE TO BE A SPECIAL PEOPLE UNTO HIMSELF, ABOVE ALL PEOPLE THAT ARE UPON THE FACE OF THE EARTH. [my emphasis added]

20:10 When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.

20:11 And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.

20:12 And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it.

20:13 And when the Lord thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shall smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword;

20:14 But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shall thou take unto thyself, and thou shall eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the Lord thy God hath given thee.

20:15 THUS SHALT THOU DO UNTO ALL THE CITIES WHICH ARE VERY FAR OFF FROM THEE, WHICH ARE NOT OF THE CITIES OF THESE NATIONS. [my emphasis]

20:16 But of the cities of these people, which the lord thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, THOU SHALT SAVE ALIVE NOTHING THAT BREATHETH; [my emphasis added]

21:10 When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the Lord thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive,

21:11 And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her unto thy wife;

21:12 Then thou shalt bring her home to thy house: and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;

21:13 And she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thy house and bewail her father and her mother a full month; and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.

21:14 And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go wither she will; but thou shall not sell her for money, thou shalt not make merchandise of her, because thou hast humbled her.

////////

So lets’ summarize the above shall we? God told “His chosen people” to go out with an attitude of absolute arrogance, intolerance and mass-murderous intention. Be conquerors, be killers, be thieves and rapists. They were/are to take their standing armies and “proclaim peace” at the gates of all their neighbors, and those that didn’t immediately bow down as slaves were summarily executed. Of their “enemies” the women were then stolen and raped as property, often sold like cattle, their children made into field slaves, their property confiscated, and everything else, “that breatheth” was laid waste in mass slaughter. If any women among the war-captives were attractive to, “Gods’ Chosen” they were raped as humiliated chattel, and if they, “didn’t delight” (can’t imagine why they’d be upset after their entire families and cities were destroyed by Yahweh’s pets…”ok bitch, you’ve got a month to mourn their deaths, after that, spread your legs and like it, or it’s the street for you!”) would then be discarded much like the wrapper on a used-up candy bar, to be replaced by a better piece of ass. But don’t sell her, says one passage, she’s already been “humbled”, and that will do nicely. That’s not a “wife”…that’s a sex slave! And all this, we are expected to believe was not only approved of by our, “loving Jehovah” but actually commanded by Him as the unique prerogative of his chosen pets?!? This is some really sick, awful and evil stuff…and if anyone doesn’t believe such quotes, they are certainly invited to look them up for themselves.

These statements are but the merest example of Old Testament quotes to the effect of a fascist, sexist, psychotically-religious/extremist state of mind. I could give literally hundreds more...on and on the passages go…war after war, conquest after conquest, endless mass killings, ”smitings with the edge of the sword”, and so forth, page after bloody page, all supposedly at the behest of Yahweh. Must it not be said then, that such material is therefore an accurate insight into the sheer arrogance, militarism and narrow-minded egotism, of the psychology of Israel?

What we have here is a people who, by virtue of the words written by the hands of their own sick-minded ancestors, have such audacity as to assume that they are not only “Gods’ chosen” but by virtue of this, they have the right through Divine providence, to do whatever they wish, to whomever they wish, as a mandate from On High. And this, we are expected to believe, is due to some silly “covenant” with a scraggly-bearded camel driver in the desert, (Abraham) because he was willing to burn his son alive as a burnt offering to Yahweh in a show of obedience? From then on, and for all time, the “seed of Abraham” shall preside over all the nations of men, as Gods’ favorite darling, Amen. What utter nonsense! When will the people of the world finally throw off this yoke of mental slavery to ancient writings such as these, filthy with awful intentions and deeds? When will they finally realize that the Bible is largely sheer nonsense, (especially the Old Testament) written by tiny human minds who cooked up a God as petty, jealous, materialistic, patriarchal, egotistical and murderous as they? When will they realize that this is decidedly and obviously NOT the inspired word of God, but the paltry, evil-minded blatherings of psychotic men?

And if anyone ever had any doubt that the Jews were, “Gods’ Chosen” all they need do is read all about it in the Old Testament, which, just by sheer coincidence, was written by Jews. But ah, never mind that, such authors of God-inspired Biblical profundity were ever flawless, impartial and wise, as all the above quotes will demonstrate. Just keep repeating to yourself the words, “the Bible is the inspired word of God” over and over again, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll somehow end up believing that, REGARDLESS of all the nastiness and self contradiction therein.

Now if we do even the smallest review of the history of Israel, it becomes obvious that the same old patriarchal, fascist pomposity is still at work. First of all, in order to even become a nation-state, Israel had to steal it from the native peoples. Whether they “bought” the land from Britain or not is irrelevant. The global empire of conquest known as “Britain” stole the land by military and economic force. When you buy stolen goods you are complicit in the act of theft, period. Ever since that time, the very existence of the Gaza Strip is a testimony to the ethnic and ideological “cleansing” of the state of Israel. Looking at this tiny area on the map, one is reminded of the plight of American Indians in their “reservations”. This area is a crowded slum of cast-off Arab peoples, an open-air prison held under military bond for decades, bullied, threatened, intimidated and starved since the beginning, by one of the most militarily powerful nations on earth. As we speak, the people there suffer at the hands of, “Gods’ Chosen” being deprived of proper food, water, electricity, basic human rights, and now, by virtue of the Israeli offensive, of their lives.

It seems to me perfectly obvious why the Palestinians have a great many legitimate grievances against Israel, starting as far back as the 1940s’. And this great nation of God Almighty, the Chosen of all the peoples’ of humanity cannot do better than this….to bomb, to starve out, to cut off basic supplies to hospitals, to deprive of electricity, to assassinate leaders, commit war crimes, blow the limbs off of children with shrapnel, prohibit observers from the world media, bomb schools sheltering the homeless, and in every way prove themselves to be despicable? THIS is the best the mighty Israel, recipient of the largest foreign aid of the wealthiest country in the world, with their fighter jets and their tanks, and their enormous resources/potential for good, can do?

And you have the nerve to ask why the post that started this thread is so, “one-sided”? That post is just a tiny part of what can be said on this subject…if anything it is far too mild.

My question to you and any Jewish person here is of two parts, as follows;
1) You read the above quotes from the Old Testament…do they or do they not appear there?
2) That Israel is based upon such ideas is a fact….do you agree or disagree? If you disagree then you must also disagree with the Bible, which is supposedly “the inspired word of God Himself”, and so, you must explain clearly WHY you disagree that these ideas are the basis of Israeli thinking.

So in essence, when a wild eyed serial killer goes on a rape and murder-spree, explaining his actions along the lines of, “God told me to do it”, he’s lucky if he gets life in prison instead of the electric chair. But if we are to believe the “holy” Old Testament as exemplified by the quotes above, when a Jew does these things along with the committing of war crimes, theft and child slavery, that’s perfectly “OK”….in this case we call that thing, “righteousness in the eyes of God”. Evidently, membership in “Club Jehovah” whose motto is, “Its’ Yahweh or the highway” is not without its’ “benefits”.

Chronicles 15:13
“That whosoever would not seek the Lord God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.”

8 Jan 2009 @ 21:57 by rishi : And now this from today's news...
JERUSALEM – The U.N. suspended aid shipments in the Gaza Strip on Thursday and the Red Cross restricted its convoys after their trucks came under Israeli fire. The threat of a wider conflict arose when militants in Lebanon fired two rockets into northern Israel.

One rocket crashed into a retirement home, but there were no serious injuries. Israel responded with mortar shells.

The driver of the U.N. truck died immediately; another worker in the truck died later of his wounds. The truck, which came under fire in northern Gaza, was marked with the U.N. flag and insignia.

During a three-hour pause in the fighting to allow in food and fuel and let medics collect the dead, nearly three dozen bodies were found beneath the rubble of bombed out buildings in Gaza City.

Many of the dead were in the same neighborhood where the international Red Cross said rescuers discovered young children too weak to stand who had stayed by their dead mothers. The aid group accused Israel of an "unacceptable" delay in allowing workers to reach the area.

Relations between Israel and humanitarian organizations have grown increasingly tense as civilian casualties have mounted.

The United Nations demanded an inquiry this week after Israeli shells killed nearly 40 Palestinians near a U.N. school filled with Gazans. Israel said militants had launched an attack from the area, then ran into a crowd of civilians for cover....

UN rights chief wants investigation of Gaza abuses

GENEVA – The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights called Friday for an independent war crimes investigation in Gaza after reports that Israeli forces shelled a house full of Palestinian civilians, killing 30 people.
Navi Pillay told an emergency meeting of the U.N. Human Rights Council that the harm to Israeli civilians caused by Hamas rockets was unacceptable, but did not excuse any abuses carried out by Israeli forces in response.
Pillay went further in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corp., saying an incident in Gaza City this week "appears to have all the elements of war crimes."
The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said Israeli troops evacuated Palestinian civilians to a house in the Zeitoun neighborhood on Jan. 4, then shelled the building 24 hours later.
The U.N. agency said 110 people were in the house, according to testimony from four witnesses.
On Thursday, the international Red Cross said the Israeli army refused rescuers permission to reach wounded people in the neighborhood for four days. Israel said the delay was caused by fighting in the area.
Pillay told the Geneva-based rights council that all parties to the conflict had a duty to care for the wounded and avoid targeting health workers, hospitals and ambulances.
Violations of international humanitarian law may amount to war crimes for which individuals should be held accountable, she said.
The 47-member council, which is dominated by Arab and African countries, is debating a resolution condemning Israel for its actions in Gaza. The motion could be delayed until Monday.
