Such as Saudi Arabia, Israel, Syria, USSR, USA, Britain, and so forth and so on... A lot of coverage has been done over the years about the infamous prison. It does not give our Military the right or the sanction to do the same for any reason as it is a well known fact, in intelligence circles, that this kind of crap nets very poor intel. 10 May 2004 @ 14:21 by skookum : I think that these crimes against humanity are an extension of mob mentality. Humanity seems to sink to it's lowest level when individual accountability is compromised. It happens everywhere...they are fighting for a cause...they are in a war...they are following a leader...they are not acting as individuals. It is appalling how some groups simply don't count enough to warrant world actknowledged outrage. 10 May 2004 @ 15:14 by scotty : Oh dear ! "what has happened to these prisoners pales into insignificance in comparison to the treatment that has been handed out to thousands and thousands who were locked up for no reason and tortured during the reign of Saddam Hussein" .....Do you REALLY believe that Salama? ..... Not one single crime is insignificant in my opinion - not one single crime is 'more' or 'less' inhuman ! Not one is 'more' or 'less' wrong ! "Who knows if some of the prisoners that are the receivers of harsh treatment now were not themselves responsible for dishing out the vilest treatment to their own people in the past? " - and what if they were ?? ...two wrongs don't make a right surely ?? "nothing justifies ill treatment "... Damn right ! "but please lets get things back into perspective and let us be a little more circumspect about our outrage." .... err... here I'm afraid you've lost me completely Salama ! ?? duh ! 10 May 2004 @ 15:56 by nemue : The Point Has Been Missed I Fear I obviously have not done a great job here. My point in all of this 1) I do not condone what has happened - I said that 2) The press that this has attracted is out of whack with the press on other issues far greater than any treatment that has supposedly been dealt out here. WHY ARE WE SILENT.. 3) Two wrongs don't make a right but for God's sake lets demand balance in our reporting 4) Yes, Scotty I do believe that at least based on what has been reported pales in insignifcant to what has been hannded out previously. I agree that all crime is crime (I said already I DO NOT condone these actions) but let us be honest there are differing levels of crime and they should be treated as such - it is not one size fits all here guys.. All I ask is that we do not compromise for the sake of a 'good story' that sells papers and advertising. Let us get it all out and deal with it.. Blessings Nemue 10 May 2004 @ 17:58 by scotty : Actually Nemue I think that in general we do really agree ! maybe it's just in the details that we kinda find differances ! I'm more interested in what brings us together than what drives us apart - I believe that lots of us here have common goals and we're all trying to fight for justice and freedom each of us in our own way - I believe that eventually we're all going to win too ! Blessings to you too Salama 10 May 2004 @ 19:28 by nemue : Thank You Scotty I thought I would share the following with you also. I have just finished reading "Mayada - Daughter of Iraq" by Jean Sasson. This is the story of one woman's survival in Saddam Hussein's Torture Jail and although the book is harrowing in many parts, it is also the story of courage, love and friendship. There is one poem in the book that I would like to share with you. They took me away from my home They slapped me when I cried out for my children They imprisoned me They accused me of crimes I had never committed They interrogated me with their harsh accusations They tortured me with their cruel hands They stubbed out cigarettes on my flesh They cut out my tongue They cut off my breasts I wept alone, in pain and in fear They sentenced me to die They staked me to a wall I begged for mercy They shot me between the eyes They dumped my body in a shallow grave They buried me without a shroud After my death, they discovered I was innocent This book had a profound effect on me.
