As he did before in his surprisingly funny and mature first film, Suleiman illustrates the ironies, contradictions and inequities of life under occupation. Rather than take an earnest or sentimental approach, the director strings together Beckett-like vaudeville routines, often filmed in long-shot, long-take tableaux, with a minimum of dialogue. Contemporary viewers may compare Divine Intervention with the best work of Abbas Kiarostami, but the film also recalls Buster Keaton’s Three Ages, Ernst Lubitsch’s To Be or Not To Be and Richard Lester’s How I Won the War.
----Eric Monder, Film Journal International
Suleiman's skill at conjuring up images from the political unconscious of people wracked by violence and insecurity. In this sense, "Divine Intervention" is the "Dr. Strangelove" of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, bringing barely acknowledged fears to the surface so they can be understood.
---David Sterritt, The Christian Science Monitor
It would be a mistake to dismiss Divine Intervention as Palestinian propaganda. Suleiman is as critical of his own people as he is of Israelis, and he laments the lack of tolerance on both sides.
Viewed this way, the film's title becomes less of a sarcastic comment and more of a desperate invocation - could God, any God, please come down and sort this mess out?
---Peter Howell, Toronto Star

Message Board
My favorite comment on the message board:
"People get over it, its a film for Gods sake!!
No I am not Israeli and no I am not Palestinian. Why can't you people have a sane disscussion without blaming one another for problems in the region? You have no idea what you sound like to the rest of the world, like a bunch of 2 year olds fighting for a ball!!
First of all this is not a political discussion board, its a place to discuss film. NOT TO TELL EACH OTHER OFF.
So cut the macho crap (I am certain you are all men), and tell us what you thought of the film."
Good for her :-)
