ReCBC: Trudeaumania fades at Pierre Trudeau's tomb
On this the date of your death,
I am struck with a loss of words,
was this a great man or a fool,
In retrospect it seems he was a fool,
calling us to a sensibility and grace and reason
that seems beyond our ken and human nature.
so even though I wrote the following for others
I rededicate now to PET.
Thanks for trying sir but it seems we are only human and mortal
and not up to the task and vision of a just and plural society.
(bows head sorrowfully.)
Thank you though despite us, even though perhaps
I and others never really knew or met you.
Honorable Pierre Elliot Trudeau
(Oct 18, 1919- Sept 28, 2000).
BEAUTIFUL FOOL
Beautiful Fool, thank you for your Love,
Thank you for your smile,
That lightened up my day.
Beautiful Fool, thank you for your time,
and your prose and rhyme
That brightened up my way.
Chorus:
I guess the jokes on me,
You've finally been set free,
You've finally found your paradise in death.
I guess the jokes on us,
As we fight and rush and cuss,
While we've lost the only good thing that we had,
First Verse:
