Trouble is, future-looking people need the-next-instant to get "there".
Alternative currencies and concepts are a thing to explore, really. They even have this game they are readying ... openmoney.org or somewhere ...

Yeah, part of the problem is that there's built-in corrosion in the national money (interest) and that it is created by some folks with special interests (banks), not by the people who either produce value or who have a need for stuff. Things could be very different if one lived in an economy that was designed to support the kinds of things you need to do. I.e. it would make more sense if money was created when somebody had something to offer that somebody else needed. And demurrage (reverse interest) for accumulated funds would probably make the wheels run better than positive interest.

But an ever changing maze. Always, companies are moving, and changing themselves and it leaves a lot of people moving around looking for work. So much movement is caused that relationships get broken. Families get split apart, friendships wither, etc. I dont even know how to contact any of my old childhood friends -- they all moved away when their parents lost jobs and had to find work elsewhere. It strikes me that we never lived like this before, for thousands of years people stayed put didnt they? Built strong relationship with the community and all that great stuff? Now people are just forced to chase dollars around. This is not civilization, it's animal survival.
17 Feb 2004 @ 20:16 by Evan @18.104.22.168 : just on the edge
Maybe this "just on the edge of surviving" was imprinted in your identity at a young age and your mind sees it now as a goal. Even though you may make alot more money now, your mind still sees the "goal" as the same, spend money until you get to the edge of barely making it. So the mind influences your associations and action of spending to make yourself constantly struggling. I am sure you think all your expenses are justified, if your mind wasnt able to convince you of this it would never be able to carry out its goal. I know you are savvy in NLP etc. So crack the code on why people are stuck in this identity and how to alter their goals and you will not only solve your financial problems but you would have an endless list of customers wanting the same help.
17 Feb 2004 @ 21:17 by ming : On the Edge
Well, maybe I will. And, indeed, I personally have a certain affinity for being on the edge. Doesn't have to be a financial edge, of course. And it doesn't have to mean struggle.
Anyway, I'd love to be part of organizing or constructing or facilitating alternatives for myself and others. Sure, they might take the form of a different way of thinking, or they might be a different kind of grassroots networking, or they might be a different economic paradigm.
See, part of the issue is that I reject the standard answers. It is not that it is terribly hard to be a good orderly upper middleclass citizen. Consume, Conform, Obey. Look for profits. Listen to your accountant. And, well, there are certain basic principles, and of course it is not that I am too stupid to understand them. But I don't like them. So either I want the rules changed, or I want to find the way of staying true to my integrity and incidentally, as a side-effect, also succeeding well in the current system.
The most promising mindset I see, within the system as it is, would be the entrepreneur's way of thinking. Applying creativity to making new things possible, using everything available as possible resources, and continuously looking for ways to transcend the status quo, ways of making something new and better, no matter how many failures it will take.
