Fading


Part of the view of things is hazy
What used to shine in crackling hues
Fades into some reality only half-baked
Undone to a state of mushy gruel
A white paste of mealy mediocrity

Turning the faded pages over and over
Photographs, I think I know them all
Was I really there, laughing and posing?
Part of me aches for a sharpened moment
Pictures are the negatives of the past

Where there were fresh-lifted aromas
Come the stale, sneezing mustiness
Each mote of dust unsettles and flies
Burning the eyes and noses subtly
Blurring the vision just briefly enough

All this leaving me thinking darkly
Too many sorrows, too few joys
Where will it take me tomorrow?
Will I soon be faded and put aside?
A dusty and forgotten photograph.

nostalgia.. alas

I rarely look at old photo books...as there are so few happy memories in the current relationship I am in.
