Gracias a la vida
Violeta Parra

graba noche y dia grillos y canarios
martillos, turbinas, ladridos, chubascos

madre amigo hermano y luz alumbrando,

to run into someone, who obviously is as deeply touched by Violeta Parra as I am - and have been eversince I first heard "Gracias a la Vida" in 1980. It was the weirdest thing!... All of a sudden I hear this incredible song on the Music radio in Sweden, one of Joan Bae'z versions ( I know at least two versions/recordings of Joan of this particular Song. Both equally powerful) but, at that moment I knew nothing about Violeta.
But when I heard the song, I knew I had ran into someone who loved Life dearly, yet had taken her own life! How the song emitted this message to me, I couldn't tell you! I couldn't hold it back; the MIXTURE of exalted Joie de Vivre and Sorrow & Pain I felt coming towards me from this Song ( through Joan's interpretation of it!) bursted all my tear canals wide open and I cried the way I have seldom cried.
This whole experience "package" opened a new awareness to Life for me! My life was never quite the same it had been just a few minutes prior!

Gracias Violeta, Gracias! Gracias a la Vida! Gracias Uncle Remus!
