I just got back to Mumbai from a trip to New Delhi. I have been living in India for some time. The contrasts were more then interesting between both cities. Delhi has good roads, is very clean, it is the capital of India and the people there are used to seeing and selling things to tourists, foreigners. Mumbai is the financial center had has its pearl, Bollywood, the glamor industry It is big, fast moving and most people could care less if you are a foreigner or tourist.

India is a country of many exotic religions, at least to my western eyes. I have visited many temples, mosques, a few churches and even a synagouge in my search for religious truths. The food here is in great variety and abundance. It is mainly in the rural areas that people have restricted diets. Yes, there are poor people but there are also riches in abundance.

Mumbai is a big city of 15 million people. It took me a month to find bagels, lox and cream chees. One day in Delhi, searching sights in the city in an ac car with driver, I stumbled across Moshe's Deli. Imagine my surprise to find that Moshe served first class Italian food. I bought a loaf of fresh baked whole wheat Italian bread, had some gelati and we had a nice chat. All of the people here in India seem friendly. I have walked many a street, day and night and felt no dangers.

Which Delhi is that?
Check out Sopema (Rawalsi) north of Delhi - you won't regret it....

HI JEFF, I LOOKED ON MY DELHI MAP AND DID NOT SEE SOPEMA, RAWALSI. WHAT IS IT THERE THAT IS AN ATTRACTION? DELHI IS CLEAN COMPARED TO MUMBAI WHERE I AM LIVING.

does he deliver? Haven't had gelati in years, and whole wheat Italian? Perhaps I'll trek to Delhi in this lifetime.
Glad to hear you're well, B.

how is the drinking and bathing water? Has it been cleaned up some? Thanks for your up-dates, glad you're enjoying your travels.

12 May 2005 @ 14:29 by b : Thanks Judih and Sparticle for asking
I only drink mineral water here, current brand of favor is Bisleri. I am told the water is unsafe for bathing too except in newer complexes of homes where there is special clean piping and disposal techniques. I also have all vegtables or fruits that I consume washed in the bottled water. I am going by the old aphorism: "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

Judih, the ice cream was good. I have been having a lot of good experiences in eating food hee in India. There is an awesomevariety of it. One of my most favorite catagories of food is Indian/Chinese food. Different then Chinese food served in USA though there is a place or two that I can that American style of Chinese food.

Are you referring to the Bohdi tree in the state of Behar? I did not mean to shout, just used caps to show a different comment.

Hey Bee,

You mentioned that you got Bagels in Mumbai after a month of searching. Can you tell me where? I would be delighted if I can get my hands on a bagel.

Thanks

I found that in most five star hotels here in Mumbai there are little minideli's. They call them cake shops, that have bakeries(bagels) and cold cuts, cheese, etc. Where are you located??
